❖Management is a process with a social element. It requires the efficient
use of resources combined with the guidance of people in order to
reach a specific organizational objective.
❖Management is a process consisting of planning,organizing,activating
human resources,and exercising control in order to achieve goals.
How do you define
management ?
Three key characteristics define the process of management:
1. management is a process of continuing and related activities.
Each of the functions is related to each other and the functions
complement each other.
2. management is about it involving and concentrating on
organizational goals.
3. management is about a dynamic process, with a number of
elements and activities as part of the process.

Manajemen ini mencakup tanggung jawab untuk mencapai tujuan dan
memenuhi tujuan suatu organisasi melalui perencanaan oleh seorang pemimpin
organisasi. Tiga karakteristik utama menentukan proses manajemen yaitu yang
pertama, manajemen adalah proses kegiatan yang berkelanjutan dan berhubungan
yang masing-masing fungsi saling terkait dan saling melengkapi. Kedua, manajemen
adalah mengenai hal itu yang melibatkan dan berkonsentrasi pada tujuan organisasi.
Ketiga, manajemen mencapai tujuan organisasi dengan bekerja sama dengan sumber
daya orang dan organisasi dengan memanfaatkan sumber daya keuangan dan sarana
prasarana yang ada. Fungsi manajemen pada setiap organisasi adalah sama, yang
berbeda adalah proses penerapannya bergantung pada pemimpin di setiap organisasi.

The essential elements/components of Management Process are four:
a. Planning
b. Organising
c. Directing
d. Controlling
❖ Gullick coined the word "PODSCORB" to suggest seven functions of
management.
❖ Luther Gullick gave a new formula to suggest the elements of Management
Process i.e. basic functions of management. According to him, management
process may be indicated by the word "PODSCORB". Here, 'P' states for
'planning'. "O" for 'organising', "D" for 'directing', "S" for 'Staffing', "CO" for
'Coordinating, "R" for 'Reporting' and "B" for 'Budgeting'.
