• What do I want students to know or be
able to do?
• What should they remember a year from

can do what I want?

• What will I do and what will they do?

11. Voki
• Have students introduce themselves using a Voki
• Assign a Virtual Presentation (post to DB)
• Get Students to Create Voki to explain a concept
• Students create avatars to read their short poetry.
• After researching famous people, students create avatars that
resemble these famous people to present information, such as why
they were important in history.
• Students use Voki avatars to persuade the audience to act, such
purchasing a product or voting for a candidate-use for debate
• English and Foreign language Learners can use Voki by recording
themselves saying dialogue or reading a passage. Listening to the
Voki enables them to hear how they sound and work on fluency.
12. Wordle
• In the chat room, please provide the word or phrase that you would
use to describe WCCI
• (http://www.wordle.net) is word cloud generator
• No log-in or email required. Program allows printing, in order to
save right click on Wordle picture and save as a jpeg and or make a
screen print.
13. Wordle and Picture
simple way to add a word cloud to a picture –
1. Locate a picture that will illustrate the word cloud and save it.
2. Create a word cloud.
3. Use the Custom Palette tool under Colors to create a background and font
colors that coordinate with the picture.
4. Open the word cloud in a new window.
5. Open it to full screen and press the Print Screen key.
6. Open MS PowerPoint.
7. Insert the picture and enlarge it to fill the slide.
8. Right click on the picture and paste the word cloud on the picture.
9. Right click on the cloud to use the Format Picture tool. Crop the top and
bottom of the cloud. Adjust the size of the cloud to reduce it. Position it on the
picture.
10. Save the slide as usual OR save it in the jpeg format to use on a class
web page or other site.
15. Wordle as Pre-Learning
• use this Web 2.0 tool as a pre-
learning activity to introduce a new
concept.
• Generate keywords for an upcoming
reading and let students brainstorm
what it is about.
16. Wordle Cont.
• Use Wordle to activate prior knowledge and to
introduce a new concept, make connections from
theory to teaching
• Use as a self-assessment tool. Students type in
words they know about a topic before a concept
is introduced (in chat room). At the end of the
unit they can repeat the activity and compare and
contrast the two wordless as a means of self-
assessment (use in Discussion Board)

• Use responses from poll everywhere or
survey to identify and discuss popular
responses.
• Copy and paste the contents of an online
discussion to determine main ideas.
• Compare news articles on the same topic
from different sources by creating two or
more word clouds.
18. Wordle Tips
• You can make phrases in Wordle by using the ~
to group words, such as rainy~day.
• You can’t save a cloud as an image. You must
save the code and insert it into a web site.
• You can “Print Screen” and paste it into a
document, then crop it.
• Click Randomize if you do not like the layout of
your word cloud.
• Make specific words larger by simply repeating
them.
