Leeds City Region is the largest functional economic area outside
London and is set to drive exceptional growth. Our Strategic
Economic Plan sets out our ambition to:
• Deliver £5.2 billion additional economic output by 2021
• Create 62,000 extra jobs by 2021
In order to achieve this we have already secured:
• Over £1 billion investment in transport, housing, city centre
development, skills, innovation and business growth
• Over £5 billion in the development pipeline
• A key role in the Northern Powerhouse and primed
for further decision making powers by government
This confidence makes Leeds City Region the ideal location
for investment. We are the UK’s second centre for banking,
with a significant professional services hub, generating almost
£4.5 billion annually, with the REM forecast showing growth of
32% for 2014-22.
Leeds City Region is demonstrating its enormous economic
potential in attracting growing numbers of international
businesses. The EY Attractiveness Survey, 2015, states that
foreign direct investment projects have increased by 145%
since 2013, making our region one of the UK’s fastest growing
investment hotspots.

The UK continues to be one of the most attractive
destinations for global investment, with an
economy that is growing faster than other major
competitor countries, including USA, Germany,
France and Canada.
The UK’s location provides easy access to some
of the world’s largest financial markets. Within the
same working day companies are uniquely able to
transact in Asia in the morning and America in the
afternoon. Combine this with a robust legal and
regulatory system, the ease of business set-up,
competitive taxation and an extensive multicultural
and multilingual talent pool, it’s no surprise that
foreign companies have invested nearly £100 billion
in UK financial companies since early 2007.
The UK is Europe’s number one destination for
foreign direct investment projects. A substantial
increase of investments in financial and professional
services in 2014 added 31,198 jobs and proved the
nation’s ability to outperform its rivals.

candidates is critical to investing and
growing your business.
Key to the success of Leeds City Region

talent. Nowhere else in the UK has the
scale, diversity and availability of a highly
adaptable and competent workforce.
We don’t just focus on the industry
requirements of today, but anticipate
and plan for the talent requirements of
tomorrow. With 7 million people within
one hour’s drive time, nine universities
producing 41,500 graduates each year and
an extensive current labour force across all
business sectors, we can provide the skills

  • 10. The UK continues to be one of the most attractive destinations for global investment, with an economy that is growing faster than other major competitor countries, including USA, Germany, France and Canada. The UK’s location provides easy access to some of the world’s largest financial markets. Within the same working day companies are uniquely able to transact in Asia in the morning and America in the afternoon. Combine this with a robust legal and regulatory system, the ease of business set-up, competitive taxation and an extensive multicultural and multilingual talent pool, it’s no surprise that foreign companies have invested nearly £100 billion in UK financial companies since early 2007. The UK is Europe’s number one destination for foreign direct investment projects.
