Job Overview
Responsible for the operational safety, efficiency and standards of a region with particular emphasis on technical matters.
Management of regional resources to meet the Concept of Operations with particular emphasis on technical matters. Responsible for
the implementation of, and contribution to, the strategy, policies and improvement of the Operations Department and Institution.
Key Responsibilities
To manage the region in accordance with RNLI and Operations Department policy, regulation and guidance
Report on progress against regional objectives and ensure they are met
To be the lead advisor on all health and safety matters within the region
To deputise for the Regional Operations manager when required
Provide resilience to the Divisional staff and volunteers. Mentor, coach, advise support and develop them
Promote high quality inter personal and working relationships amongst staff and volunteers
The prioritisation of work within the region to best meet the operational/technical need, explaining that requirement to others and
working in partnership to achieve the common goal
To promote and drive continuous improvement, cross stream working and ‘One RNLI’
To lead and co-ordinate project work associated with new stations, reconfiguration and co-locations
Inspections of stations/SCs, relief lifeboats, operational pass outs
Undertake trials/passages as required accepting boats and associated equipment into operational service in the region
Liaise with other organisations, legislative bodies and agencies, representing the RNLI accordingly
Carry out major incident, service and managerial investigations as required and act on divisional reports
Arrange and take part in major ceremonial occasions, liaising with other departments, staff and volunteers
Responsibility for relevant sections of the region’s budget and its setting.
Being part of the on-call roster
Meet and maintain the RNLI medical standards for this role

Qualifications required
Relevant engineering degree or MCA class 1 or RN charge chief with managerial experience in a marine engineering background
NEBOSH general certificate – the diploma is desirable
Incorporated engineer status (or working towards) is desirable
Experience required
Extensive knowledge of small craft technology
Extensive experience in the operation and maintenance of propulsion and auxiliary systems
The ability to interpret technical drawings (CAD and paper based) and use of SAP and MS office
Knowledge and experience of interpretation and application of H&S legislation
Managerial experience and excellent communication skills
Suitable for someone who
Has a flexible approach to work and can remain balanced and objective in difficult situations.
Is motivational and demonstrates a positive outlook when leading a team
Once in post is prepared to relocate to another region should the operational need arise
Not suitable for someone who:
Dislikes responsibility and dealing with conflict. Is not prepared to travel extensively and regularly stay away overnight. Is not prepared
to live within a defined area.
