•To evaluate the efficacy of various dietary doses of a
protease (RONOZYME ® ProAct) on the apparent
digestibility, nutrient utilization and growth performance of
juvenile Nile tilapia fed diets where fish meal is gradually
replaced by plant proteins leading to distinct crude protein
levels.
•RONOZYME ® ProAct, a serine protease (single enzyme
product), can break down complex proteins into usable
amino acids and peptides. Although proteases occur
naturally in the digestive system of tilapia, the addition of a
specific exogenous protease could improve the protein
digestibility of a broad range of plant ingredients used for
fish meal replacement.

Results
•Protein and dry matter ADC were significantly improved
when the CP26, CP28 and CP31 diets were supplemented with
the protease. The improvement of protein ADC was comprised
between 2 and 8%.

•Protein retention was unaffected by the crude protein level
and was significantly improved when the diets with low
fishmeal level(CP26 and CP28) were supplemented with the
protease.
•PER, FCR and nitrogen gain was significantly improved when

Growth performance
•Fish fed the non-supplemented diet (Ctrl) containing 28%
protein (CP28) performed better than fish fed the Ctrl CP26
diet.

•When CP26 diets were supplemented with 200, 400 and 600
ppm ProAct protease, growth performance was significantly
increased by 18, 28 and 30% respectively.

Ingredient
•The dietary supplemental protease RONOZYME® ProAct
improves protein digestibility in a dose dependent
manner.
• Beneficial effects of the protease on growth and
nutrient utilization were observed at low dietary crude
protein level.
• RONOZYME® ProAct allows to reduce the protein
content of the diet by reducing fish meal level, while
still maintaining animal performance.

Basal Diet: Extruded diet containing 26.5, 28.5
