E-waste is a growing problem as more electronic devices are discarded. An e-waste eco-park is proposed as a solution to properly manage e-waste. The eco-park would have areas for dismantling, segregation, storage, recycling of materials like metals and plastics, and manufacturing using recovered materials. This would create jobs while providing environmentally-friendly disposal of e-waste. However, practical challenges include the mixed nature of e-waste and lack of awareness. The eco-park aims to effectively manage India's increasing e-waste in a centralized, non-polluting manner.

types of electrical and electronic equipment
(EEE) and it’s parts that have been discarded
by the owner as waste without the intention
of re-use.

• Electronic waste can contribute to air pollution.

• Heavy metals in the e-waste can directly from e-waste
into the soil.
• Harmful to microorganisms and plant metabolism.

Metal Sources Health effect
Lead Glass panels , gaskets of computer monitors ,and circuit
boards.
Lead causes damage to the central nervous
system , blood system , kidney and
reproductive system.
Cadmium Infrared detectors and semiconductor chips. Toxic cadmium compounds accumulate in
human body, specially the kidneys.
Mercury Mercury is used in thermostats, sensors, lamp, mobile
phones and in batteries.
Mercury can cause damage to organs
including the brain and kidneys.
Chromium Chromium is used as corrosion protector and use in
cabling.
Chromium can cause damage to DNA and
extremely toxic in the environment.
Barium Barium is a soft silvery white metal that is used in
in the front panel to protect users from radiation.
Barium causes brain swelling, muscle
weakness, damage to the heart , liver .
Beryllium Beryllium is commonly found on motherboards and finger
clips.
Exposure to beryllium can cause lung cancer,
skin disease.
Arsenic Cathode ray tube etc. Arsenic can causes lung and skin cancers
may cause other cancer.

11. WHAT DO WE DO WITH THIS E-WASTE ?
Step 1.
• Once the waste arrive at the Eco-park,
• An operator shows the individual where each item should be
deposited.
Step 2.
• When the containers are full, they are transferred to plants where the
usable materials are recycled and converted into new raw materials.
Step 3.
• Products that are particularly hazardous are treated prior to recovery
or disposal in order to avoid environmental and health problems.

E-waste eco-park
E-waste eco-park where Dismantling,
Re-cycling, Disposal and
Re-manufacturing of the E-waste will be
done in a safe and scientific manner.
On February 24, 2022, the Deputy Chief
Minister of Delhi, Mr. Manish Sisodia,
announced that Delhi will get India’s first
e-waste eco-park.

1. Physical characteristics:-
E-waste-Mixed with biodegradable waste.
Presence of hazardous waste.
2. Lack of awareness.
3. Unplanned growth & development of cities.
4. This results in many life-threatening incidents like fires
breakout.
5. It also impacts the health of waste handlers.

?
• These discarded products affect the environment
negatively.
• Apart from affecting the environment, it can also affect
the health of the people;
Hence, managing this E-waste effectively is
important and its awareness is also important.

17. ADVANTAGES OF ECO-PARK
• Effective management of e-waste.
• Create jobs and boost the economy.
• It will have facilities for extraction of precious metals like
gold, silver, copper among others, especially from Printed
Circuit Boards (PCBs) through high-end technologies.
• There will be end-to-end processing of e-waste with zero
landfill.
• Recycled material can be used on developing new
equipment.

E-waste can contain hazardous substances and its
improper treatment leads to adverse effects for
human health and the environment.
Our eco-park will reduce pollution across the capital.
In India ninety-five percentage of the e-waste is
being recycled in non-formal sector and only five
percentage e-waste recycle in formal unit.
