October 2017,
Kitchen furniture: World market outlook
In 2016, around 25 million kitchens were manufactured in the world (3.6% more if compared to the previous year), with a stable
unit price. Out of them, 1.9 million units were traded worldwide, corresponding to a global value of US$ 5.6 billion. According to
CSIL forecast, this value is expected to reach US$ 6.7 billion by 2021.
That is what emerges from Kitchen furniture: World market outlook. The new CSIL’s report, at its XXII edition, offers an accurate
picture of the kitchen furniture industry in 2016 worldwide. As the first part of the report analyses the global market as a whole, the
second part provides punctual data and statistics for 60 countries, selected according to their contribution to the international trade.
Here, the main findings:
Over the last five years the value of the world production of kitchen furniture has slowly but steadily increased with an
average annual rate of 0.6% in US$ (+5.3% in EUR);
the United States were both the largest market and the biggest importer, as in 2016 they imported kitchen for a value of
almost US$ 1.6 billion. In term of import dimension, France is the second largest market, followed by Switzerland;
Germany is by far the leading exporting country, as in 2016 the value of its export amounted to US$ 2.1 billion. It follows
China and Italy;
The same rank holds in term of trade balance: Germany is by far the leader, with almost US$ 2 billion of net exports, China
is ranks second, followed by Italy. On the bottom of the ranking, there are the United States (with a net deficit of US$ 1.3
billion), France, and Switzerland.
The kitchen furniture sector is not as open to international trade as other furniture business. This sector is less subjected to
import penetration (around 10%), probably due to the installation work and different standards that exist among countries.
