The Pilgrims and Wampanoag tribe celebrated the first Thanksgiving in 1621 for three days to give thanks for a successful harvest. They had a large party with 140 people outside since their buildings were too small. They ate foods native to the area like turkey, deer, fish and squash that the Wampanoag had taught the Pilgrims to cultivate. The celebration involved eating, games, stories and church in thanks for the Pilgrims' first harvest in the New World.
