For our firstmagazinewhich is called disco ,the name is still a work in
progress.Due to our magazine being named “disco”this links in with
the gender of pop music with the font either havingthe colour
scheme of purpleor black and white. Our magazine will beaimed at a
younger generation mainly the female population around the ages of
15 to 18 with a colour scheme of baby pink white and black. As the
magazine will hold the content of fashion, songlyrics, famous artist
and interviews with photos. The magazine will beconstructed on A4
sheets of paper and the magazinewill have an average of 40 pages or
less which will bereleased every fortnight.
Helloandwelcome tomypitchtoday I will be talkingabout
our latestmagazine,DiscoandPopGalaxywhichwe have
beenworkingonoverthe lastfew months.
For our second magazine itwill be called Pop Galaxy again this hasa
link to the gender of pop music. The font will either be in red or black
and white. Again our audiencewill be you young females between
the ages of 15 to 18 and will consistsof the same content, frequency
and the length. The colour scheme of our magazinewill be baby blue
white and yellow, as they will help the magazine stand out and make
it appealingto the audience.
Withour firstmoodboard for DiscoI have lookedatpopular
fashionthatthe target audience likestowearmainlycasual.I
have alsoplacesedfamouse artiststhatourgeneration nowdays
likestoliesontolike,Jessiej ,AdeleandJustinTimberlake .
finallyIhave placedtwosocial mediasitesthatare used
frequentlyonadayto day bases.
Withour secondmoodboard forPop GalaxyI lookedatquite
trendyfashionthatfitnicelyaroundthe bodyshape butstill feel
comfterbel towear.AgainIhave foundwell know artistsuchas
ollymurrsand demi lavarter.FinallyIhave chosentwodifferent
popularsocial mediasitesthatare still usedona day to day
bases.
Whenwe firstthoughtof striating ourmagazineswe came up
witha veraityof namessuchas “snap”.We alsoconsiderour
target audience whichwill be betweenthe agesof 15 to 18 for
the female population.We alsoconsidereddifferentstraplines
such as “ life isa stage”and “ the rhyme isinyou”. We alsohave
to considerthe frequencyof the magazine andthe contentthat
will keepouraudiencesentertainedandexcitedforthe next
issue.

Secondly when constructinga new magazine we make illustrated drafts
before moving on to graphic drafts. So for Disco we had two different
ideas a closeup of the artistfacial features, and a longshot for another
cover. These ideas have been taken from my inspirational magazine,
which is top of the pops as they have a similar stylein which we would like
to replicatein our own way. This also applies for our DPS as there have
been man y different structers that have been used , and we have taken
parts which would be the most successeful and putit all together in on
DPS.
The same thingappliestoourdraftsof POPGalaxy,byconsidering
differentcameraanglesanddifferentcolourschemesthatwhich
make it appealingtothe audiences.
Once we have made a draftof the magazine we thenmove onto
makinga graphiclayoutof the twodrafts that where created.
So forDisco I constructedthe twodifferentdraftswhichtheircolour
scheme beingused togetthe full effect. as youcan see itis very
appealingtothe eye andwouldcapture peoplesattention.Butwhen
it comesto choosingone draftI wouldchoose the one onthe leftas
it hasboldcolourand wouldstandout whenplacedionashop
shelve.
As youcan see for topof the pops we constructedtwodifferent
draftsusingthe colourscheme of baby blue, pinkandbackwhite as
youcan see onthe firstdraft. Onthe seconddraftitusesa colour
scheme of babyblue,purple andblackandwhite.
For my magazine Ihave considerthe coloursof babypink, white for
Discoand baby blue andyellow forpopgalaxy. The reasonwhyIhave
chosenthese coloursisbecause theyare boldandstand out,theyare
coloursthat will catchpeoplesattentionwhenplacedonashelve next to
othermagazines.The social mediathatIhave chosenare Facebook,
twitterandspotify.Thesesare all social mediasthatare usedona day to
day bases, whichwill helppromotethe magazine andgetmore people
aware of it
Withmy magazine of inspiration“Billboard”ithasthe followingone
mainimage and a clean-cutmasthead,italsohasconsistenthouse
styles.Italsohas arrangedof cover linesandpuff promotion,whichisall
usedjuston the frontcover.
By choosingdifferentstylesof fontithelpsrepresentthe feel of the magazine
as well asthe genderof musicit ismeantto represent. The fontstyle also
followasimilarstyle tothe magazine inspirationfontstyle.
Withmy nextmagazine of inspirationlike “billboard”use amasthead, main
image,coverlines.Butwith“topof the pops” theyuse straplines,different
backgroundcolours,a mainheadline andbarcode.
Witha magazine flatplanita ruff planof whateach page will looklike inthe
magazine includingfrontcoverandDPS.With the ruff planit outline if poster
and page numbersare goingto be usedand wearabout onthe page itwill go.
For the photoshootplan it is a ruff guide of what Certainaspectsare need
whengetting the rightshoot.Example the model requirements, the styleand
whatsort of backgroundwouldbestrepresentthe arties.
The denotationof the masthead“Disco”connotesmostpopularmusicwould
be playedat a discoparty . Thislinksinwithmusicmagazine asyoufindout
whichsongsare the mostpopular. The denotationof the masthead“Pop
Galaxy”connotesthe genderof musicthe magazine will be basedaroundand
no othertype of music. The word“galaxy”isa lose tone forworldwide no
othermagazine will be like thismagazine.
For the nexttwoslides,Mymagazine will be advertisedonthe followingsites
Facebook,twitterandSpotify.Thisisbecause thesesite are the mostusedinthe
mediaworldandpeople have accesstoit24/7. As youcan see, there isa
template of whatourFacebookpage wouldlooklike whenupandrunning.The
DiscoFacebookpage will have the magazine frontpage onitand promotionfor
that magazine asit background. The same will applyforpopgalaxyFacebook
page.
For productionplanwe made of table which
has eachweekleadinguptothe lurch weekof
whattask needtobe done eachday. There are
alsolinksthatleadto the itemsthatwe need
inorder to start the project.
For the target audience we followedthe theory’sof Hartley,
katz, maslow and the psychographicstheory. We insure to
follow these theoryiesinordertohave a successful magazine.
For advertisingrevenueIwill be using16 full pages(fh) and10
full pages(rop).Iwill alsobe using5 half pagesand2 DPS ( fh).
For advertisingratesIwill be using7half pages. the total cost
of all these pagescome to£ 114,220.
Withthe printingcostone magazine alone wouldcost£20.04 . But if we
wanted15 thousandcopiesitwouldcost£7,097.99.
My magazine will rangebetween the prices of two to three pounds per magazine. By havingthis
prices rangemost people would most likely buy a magazine that is 2.99 so there is a 1p difference .
The amount that would be sold would be around the number of 9,000 copies which will havea loss
of 6,000 copies not being sold.If all thecopies were sold for £3 would be £45,000 in profit. But by
takingaway the amount of copies that have not been sold would be £27,000 profitand £18,000
loss. But we also need to take away the printingcostof all thecopies would leave a £21,407.036
loss as notall thecopies were sold which would leavethe company in debt until the next salesee
better improvement.
Facebook marketing for magazine would class asentertainment and would cost£3.20 (CPM) or 13p
(CPC). Equipmentcostall togetherwouldcome to£2,973.89.The staffs yearly salary for one
year would cost £337,300.If you add the two prices together you get a loss of £ 340,273.89.
Advertisingrevenue wouldhave atotal of £114,220.The amountof magazinesthatwould
be soldin a yearwouldbe workout like this2 week=1magazine,Onemonth=2 magazines
,One year=24 magazines.if the magazinewassoldfor£2.99 in a monthyou would gaina
profitof £5.98 and aftera year youwouldgaina profitof £71.76.
Withequipmentandcost we had to calculate whatwe needed
and howmuch itwouldcost foreach person.Asyoucan see for
each product, individuallywe have the original price andthen
we timesthatby how many people needthe certainequipment
to endup witha final total.
We alsohave the amountthe average workerinthe
positionof editororhumanresourceswouldearn.Asyou
can see there are linksonthe side whichsourceswhere I
got my researchfromforeach jobarea.
For disco, thisisthe finishedproduct. We have gone fora babypink
background,whichhelpsmake the textandmainimage standout.We also
have prize to be wonwhichisfeaturedonthe front cover.Withthe DPS, we
useda range of differentcameraanglestocapture the artist inher fieldof
work.We have alsokeptthe same house style byhavingpinktextasthe
artistanswerand alsoblacktextand a white backgroundtomake the
imagesandtextstandout.
For popgalaxywe useda completelydifferentcolourtopinkandwent
witha baby blue forthe background. We alsousedblackand yellowtext
for the fontcoveras it helpsitto standout. Forthe DPSwe useda range
of longshotsandpromotional imagestohelppromote the artiest
upcomingtoursand whatis to be expected. We wentwithawhite
background to helpthe textandimagesstandoutand black blue textto
highlightthe artistandinterviewerinthe interview.
Our plansforthe future are to get
more people aware of ourmagazine
and try differentstylesand
approaches.
We alsowantto focuson new artist
that are comingintothe industryalso
well know artistaswell.
We wantto have more prize giver
away toget more people interested
inthe magazine.
For my chosenmagazine IchosenDisco reason, whyisI firstaskedsome
people fortheiropinioninthe thirdpartwho were notinmy classand
judgedthe magazine basedonappearance andwhichontheyfound
more appealing. One of the people Iaskedsaid “ita gooduse of colour
coordinationandmakesitstandout, whichyourDPS the imagesare a
lotbolderanduse a verityof differentcameratechniques.Whichyour
otherDPS the imageswere abit pixilatedanddidn’tseem tobe thing
that youwouldfindina real magazine.” Iagree withher and I was
more passionate aboutmaking“disco”thanI was making“popgalaxy”
so itmade my choicesa loteasierto chosenbyconsideringwhatthe
people hadsaidandtakinginmy ownopinion.
Finished pitch
Advertising revenue: £114,220, Cost of selling magazines:£3.00 x 9,000 =
