Cross-Border Registry Interoperability:
How Far Can We Go?
• Legal and technological issues in interconnection
• Experiences from European Union initiatives and lessons learned
from interconnection of state registries in federal countries
• Mutual recognition of documents – the next step?
Conclusions
• Given the present level of maturity within EU jurisdictions it is difficult to
foresee that the proposal for the change of the company law directive will
be implemented within the set timeframe (2 yrs.)
• EU together with the registries should work actively on reconciliation of
the conflicting provisions of the GDPR and the Company Law Directive
• Regional initiatives seem to get more traction then global or pan-European
initiatives for interconnection due to economic drivers and similarity in
legislation
