he Australian Insti-
tute of Company Di-
rectors (AICD) host-
ed a dinner in Suva for
the Fijian business com-
munity on July 18 with
former Wallabies captain
Phil Kearns.
Mr Kearns, who now
runs an insurance broker-
age, discussed the paral-
lels to be found between
sport and the boardroom.
“Defining success in
business is more difficult
than in sport,” Mr Kearns
said.
“Accountability is impor-
tant: leaders need to be
held accountable and re-
ceive feedback.”
The event also acknowl-
edged recent graduates of
the Fiji Directors Course
that the AICD runs in Fiji.
The AICD will be back in
Fiji from October 1-3 to
deliver the Fiji Directors
Course in Suva.
They will also run an In-
ternational Company Di-
rectors Course from July
15-19, 2019 in Nadi: the
first time it will be run in
the West.
The course will run for
five days and is based on
global governance princi-
ples.

(BSP) handed over
the reins to a brand
new solar power supply
system to the board & man-
agement of Nailuva District
School.
This has marked the suc-
cessful completion of its
latest Rural Renewable En-
ergy Project.
They held the handover on
July 30.
BSP senior manager rural
banking Isikeli Taoi while
addressing the 270 primary
and kindergarten students
emphasised BSP’s com-
mitment to enhancing the
quality of their education
through this investment
project.
“Our commitment to Fiji’s
development goes beyond
banking,” Mr taoi said.
“Now that you have light
to help extend your study
hours into the night, make
full use of it so you can
succeed in your education.
Always remember to give
back to your parents and
communities.”
The BSP sponsored Solar
Power system will generate
power for the school hostel,
dining hall and classrooms
for their night studies.
Mr Taoi commended the
students, the school admin-
istration, parents and the
local communities for their
determination to facilitate
quality education.
He witnessed first-hand,
how classrooms used as a
learning centre during the
day were ‘transformed’ into
bedrooms at night when
students would lift their
mattresses from the school
veranda into the room.
“What a humbling experi-
ence to witness the resil-
ience of these children,” Mr
Taoi said.
“This Branch Community
Project initiated by our
staff in Rakiraki demon-
strates their empathy for
the community they serve.”
“This has enabled this re-
mote school to have access
to 24-hour power supply.”
The Nailuva District
School, which accommo-
dates boarders too, is one of
the most remote communi-
ties in the Ra province with
no bus services.
The school is also amongst
those being assisted by
the Government of Fiji
through infrastructural de-
velopment following vast
damages sustained during
TC Winston.
