She spends a lot of time on leisureShe doesn’t work
He gives time to all the activities equally except sportsHe sleeps almost 40% of a day
More than 50% in sleep and leisureRest of the activities are equally distributed
He studies a lotDoesn’t play much sports
Comparison among four group members:Ehsan sleeps the mostEmily is top on leisure she also plays sports the mostTahseen studies the mostAdeline spends a lot of time for eating
We chose sleep to compare data with a it is essential for daily functioning. It is also an indication of how different people live and change between uni and uni holidays.
When comparing the data to each team member it is evident that Adeline and Ehsan as a total over two weeks slept the most in comparison to Emily and Tahseen. As an average Adeline and Ehsan slept 60 hrs a week and Tahseen and Emily slept approximately 50 hours a week. It is evident that Ehsan slept the most during the weekend with a maximum of 10 hrs. Across the board it is seen that each member slept approximately 6-10 hrs more when on holidays in comparison to when attending university.
The sleeping patterns have been recorded through a dynamic representation on googledocs. As you can see Adeline fluctuates the most in the transition time from uni to uni holidays. You can also see that Tahseen fluctuates daily with an inconsistency of sleeping hrs, ranging from 5-9 hrs a day. The dynamic presentation allows a visual of movement over time an is a much better alternative to creating a lot of static charts that could too show the movement of data over time. This way a simple viewing can be analysed clearly and easily without any confusion. It also allows a quick transition of different fields with a click of a button that can each tell a different story.
For Ehsan except for sports and study everything seems the same during holiday week, compared to Uni week.StudySportsWorking hour(didn’t changed at all)
For Emily except for work everything seems the same during holiday week, compared to Uni week.More Study( Because There was no uni)Less Sports(NO IDEA…..EMILY CAN YOU PLEASE TELL SOMTING ABOUT THAT)Travel(Because she didn’t have to come to uni…that’s why she spent less time for travel)Working hour(didn’t changed at all)
For Tahseen almost everything changed during holiday week compared to Uni week.Less Study( Because he spent more time for sports and leisure)More Sports Less Travel (Because he didn’t have to come to uni…that’s why he spent less time for travel)Less Working hour(Because he spent more time for sports and leisure)
Prove or disprove this statement
(Graph shows 2 weeks total)Adeline doesn’t work but she does not study more than others who work. Tahseen works the least hours – 14 hours per week (Ehsan – 18, Emily 21) and Tahseen spends the most time studying compared to the others. Therefore our data partially supports the statement as Tahseen works the least hours and spends the most time studying. We also found some interesting facts in regards to leisure time from inferring the data. (Next slide)
Emily& Adeline – Arts Students, FemaleTahseen & Ehsan – Engineering Students, MaleUni week: Adeline spends around 18 hrs on leisure. Emily (28 hours) Ehsan (12 hours) Tahseen (10 hours)Holiday Week: Adeline spends 40 hours on leisure. Emily (46 hours) Ehsan (22 hours) Tahseen (24 hours)it appears Emily & Adeline spend more time on leisure activities. It could be due to Arts Students spend more time on leisure activities compared to Engineering Students, orFemales spend more time on leisure activities than males
In conclusion, Assignment 3 started with collaboration between our group members. We entered data into a spreadsheet using Google Docs which enable us to work togather externally. Using the data collected in 2 weeks, we sort the data into tables and visualised them into charts and diagrams to tell a story. We can tell many stories from the data collected. This is the power of data.
