HOW TO VERIFY | Subscribers
• Verification is done face to face.
• Copies are not accepted.
• Only original or certified documents are acceptable.
• Verification of Information:
• South African citizens
• Non-South-Afrcan citizens
• Non-Permanent Residents
• Refugees

FRAUDULENT | Documents
• Should you suspect that any of the documents given to you for verification are
fraudulent:
• Report the matter to a police official at any police station within 24 hours;
• You must not inform the subscriber of this action.

NOTE:
• Rub your index finger along the bottom of page 1 & 4, you should be able to feel
the rough edges of the laminated strip.
• If page 1 & 4 are smooth or it feels flush to the paper it is possible that ID book is
fraudulent.
• The plastic that is used for laminating should not cover the entire page
• It should cover 7cm leaving 1cm exposed.

INVESTIGATION | ID Book
• First 6 digits identify the date of birth YY/MM/DD
• The seventh digit identifies the gender of the holder:
• 0000 to 4999 indicates a female
• 5000 to 9999- indicates a male
• The last 3 digits indicate citizenship:
• 08 indicates a South African Citizen
• 18 indicates the holder is not a South African Citizen
• 26 indicates the holder is a refugee
• There should be 4 imprints of the coat of arms per page.
• The name, surname & country of birth should be perfectly aligned to the left-hand
side of the document.

IMPLICATIONS | For the Company & You
• All appointed Dealers & Installers are required to validate face-to-face all customers
and/or prospective customers.
• Any employee or agent who fail to comply with certain provisions of the Act is guilty
of an offense & liable on conviction to a fine.
• R 2 000 000-00 (if a natural person); or
• R5 million if a juristic person; or
• Imprisonment for a period not exceeding 10 YEARS!

Administrator is the highest entity in the hierarchy:
• They have access to all Service Provider, Channels & Branches except the registration
of subscribers.
RICA Registration officers represent the Company:
• Are responsible for the administration of all their Channels, Branch Officers,
Operators & Subscribers.
ROLES | & Responsibilities

EXTERNAL REGISTRATION | RICA Registration Officers
• External entities such as corporate customers & retail chains will have processes for
managing Registration Officers.
• This includes putting the Registration Officers on the system, and
• Removing them when they are longer part of the organisation.
