All new Identity Documents are only written in English (old one had Afrikaans and English)
The photograph will no longer be pasted, it will now be digitally printed in black and white on the first page
There are two types of coats of arms. ID books issues prior to November 2002 have the older coat of Arms (Picture 1) which has two springboks holding up an emblem. ID books issued after November 2002 have the new oval South African coat of arms.
All South African ID books have a water mark which is visible to the naked eye, if held up towards a bright light, you should see a triangle with the letters “RSA”. Each Page contains two of these.
Check digit used to validate the ID Number.
At first glance what do you notice in picture 3? The obvious would be:
The water marks are present
The font matches that of the font which was used in 1994
The watermark on the left is covering the photo
Let’s take a look at the ID book again and see if we can pick up anything:
The water marks are duplicated
The font is the right font (1994) but notice the scratches on the book itself
Looking at the negative of the ID book, it is very clear that the ID book presented is fraudulent.
Take note of the duplicated coat of arms as well as the numbers that have been removed and replaced with others.
It is also clear that the letters I.D. No. before the ID numbers actually go over the white part for the ID number.
When we look at the ID under UV light the modifications are apparent, and we can clearly see the glue.
The water marks are present.
The font matches that of the font which was used in 1994.
The water marks are present and touching the photo.
Let’s take a look at the ID book again and see if we can pick up anything:
The water marks duplicated
The font is the right font (1994) but notice the scratches on the book itself
The photo has glue over the face indicating that the photo has been lifted.
Looking at the negative it is quite clear the ID book below is fraudulent.
The first coat of arms which should be directly under the word Citizen goes into the white section of the ID number.
As we can see the entire imprint cannot be viewed.
Also take note of the glue on the left-hand side of the ID book.
Cover page:
This is a soft cover made of synthetic material, which can withstand various temperature levels & humidity conditions without losing its durability.
The South African Coat of Arms & the type of document e.g. “Passport” is stamped in gold foil on the front cover.
The wording “South Africa” & a logo of the national flag, which are only visible under ultra-violet (UV) light, are repeatedly displayed on the surface coating of the cover material.
The end pages are made of rag fibre and chemical wood pulp.
The paper is sensitised to disclose tampering with chemical substances.
Invisible fibres as well as small particles (highlights or sparkles) will show up strongly under UV-light.
