INTODUCTION
The success of our club lies on the hands of the active leaders.
We, the leaders have absolute power to control the life of the club
whether to say live or die. Leadership is one of the challenging,
motivating, inspiring and shaping a single person to be a
competitive in life. Effective leadership needs a lot of time and
effort willingfully given to a specific task as you are appointed or
elected by the club members. A quality leader must have good
communication with other leaders and the members, and is
willing to assist other colleagues when they fall.
There are many tips to become a good leader; however the three
main points are highlighted which I think they are important in
our carrier not because we lack these things but because I want
us to enhance our carrier as leaders.
Always ask the Holy Spirit to lead you as you continue to
read and seek him in you carrier
03 JUNE 2016 Page 5
What is Leadership?
The question sounds so simple even a 5 year old child can answer it. However,
the true meaning of Leadership lies in the hearts of individuals. How ones define
Leadership is exactly what he/she thinks and will act accordingly in his/her
leadership role.
I as an individual, see leadership as more to do with my Christian carrier in life
and define Leadership as the following of Christ’s example. Leadership is all
about serving others. Serving others not because you fear them for criticism and
discrimination, but because you feared God and followed Jesus faithfully who is
the Great Leader above all. He demonstrated His Leadership all the days of His
life through His humility. Finally, on the last supper, He humiliated Himself and
washed all the disciples’ feet and He gave them this command, “Do the same
thing to others as I have done to you” (John 13.13-15). He wants us to follow His
examples in every aspects of life. Therefore, if Jesus is the shepherd, then we
are also the shepherds of others because we wanted to follow His examples as
He commanded us.
Peter also emphasized on how shepherds should look after God’s flock because
the reward is eternal by the Chief Shepherd “Jesus Christ”.
1 Pet. 5:2-4 states:
“Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers- not
because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not
greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you,
but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will
receive the crown of glory that will never fade away”.
TO BE A GOOD LEADER, CONSIDER THE POINTS BELOW AND
MEDITATE UPON THEM DAY AND NIGHT.
03 JUNE 2016 Page 6
Point 1: Leadership is a commitment to the
success of the group
These 10 words encompass a lot. The key point is to focus on the group, not on
yourself. This is one reason why virtuosity is an asset: it frees you to focus on
the successes of others. By the same token, virtuosity can be a trap if you treat
leadership as just an opportunity to bask in recognition. As a leader, you need
to get past the lust for praise and concentrate on how your colleagues are
doing.
This first principle refers to success as if its definition is a simple matter. One
challenge that any leader faces is to determine — and then to articulate — what
constitutes success.
You want members to work with their brains and hearts. To define success, craft
a vision. “BE THE EXAMPLE”
One further aspect of the first principle deserves comment. Your concept of the
group must be expansive. When the going gets tough, we all tend to define our
groups in cramped and fearful ways.
Leadership, success, and group: each word carries enough fuel for a lifetime of
reflection.
Leadership- a leader must know his/her primary mission-leading a group,
PATIENCE IS NEEDED.
Success- a leader must have a vision/goal to achieve at the end as the outcome
product. The success lies on the hand of the active leaders. QUALITY
LEADERSHIP BRINGS SUCCESS.
Group- a leader must know that he/she is leading a group made up of active
members. Always work with the members in you struggles and in you
successes.
Commitment is the only key to success. “The only way to do great work
(success) is to love (commitment) what you do” (Steve Jobs)
Commit everything to the Lord (Prov 16.1-3), delight in him (Psalms 37.4), walk
in his ways and lead his people into the parts of righteousness.
Always ask God for his wisdom (1 Kings 3.9) in your leadership and remember
you are not alone, God is always with you (Joshua 1.5). I always emphasize King
03 JUNE 2016 Page 7
David as my role model. He remains faithful to God compared to other Kings in
Israel.
Prophet Moses was considered as a righteous leader who has asked God for 2
things as the foundation of his Godly leadership, The God’s Favor upon him and
the people, and The God’s Presence to be with them (Exodus).
Point 2: Leaders tell the truth
You’ll be tempted to fabricate a story, to get past the inconvenience.
It won’t work. Set aside the obvious ethical argument and consider the pure
pragmatics. If the club members discover that you’re a liar, which is
overwhelmingly likely if you are one, then you’ll have lost forever their trust —
and their willingness to work for you with their brains and hearts. It will also
affect their punctuality to meetings and other club activities.
And you don’t have to lie to flout the truth. You can simply cave in to
conventional wisdom, instead of thinking for yourself. Your education comes
with a responsibility to follow reason and evidence wherever they lead, even
when powerful voices demand to hear something else. Don’t let your club’s
success run aground on a fantasy. Tell the truth.
Tell the truth and shame the devil. A true leader is rooted on the foundation of
the truth. Even if you are wrong, always tell the truth, admit that you are wrong
and in doing so, you have maintained your honesty so that the members may
put their trust on you. King David killed Uriah because he wanted to marry
Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah, and when God confronted him through his servant
Prophet Nathan, then King David admitted saying “Lord I have sinned”
(2 Samuel 12.13). In recount of Jesus’ life, everything he says and does were all
based on the truth because He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14.6). IF
YOU KNOW THE TRUTH, THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE (John 8.32).
03 JUNE 2016 Page 8
Point 3: It won’t last forever
The task may be finished. You may decide you’ve had enough. Someone may
force you out. One way or another, the job will end. Your role in leadership will
end one day. Remember leadership is not a lifetime job, but in some cases yes-
especially in families as fathers and mothers.
It’s better to step down because you had the courage to do this than to be
asked to go because you made a habit of ducking.
That said, stepping down can be a delicate personal juncture. My best advice
here is to cultivate a diversity of passions. Strive for versatility.
Ecologists dispute whether any connection exists between diversity and stability
in ecosystems. But in the ecology of the self, diversity gives you safe landings:
your discipline, your volunteer service, your friends and your family. In stepping
down, you won’t stop being a leader; you’ll simply adjust your focus.
No leadership post lasts forever, but a commitment to the success of the group
makes you a leader for a lifetime.
That’s the short course. Leadership flows from three principles: commitment to
the success of the group, scrupulous adherence to the truth, and the versatility
needed to navigate the end of the job.
A TRUE LEADER MUST;
1: BE A CRAFTS MAN AND WOMEN
2: Be patient in every aspect
3: Enjoy everything he/she does
4: Not disgrace or upset or develop hatred to others
5: Be faithful to his/her duties
6: Acknowledge other leaders and members’ point of view
7: Be responsible for the wellbeing of the club and the members as well
8: Be equal to everyone and accept comments
NOTHING IS HARD; COMMIT EVERYTHING TO GOD AND HE WILL SHOW YOU
THE RIGHT WAY
Prov 16.1-3
The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, [is] from
the LORD. All the ways of a man seems innocent in his own eyes; but the
motives are weighed by the LORD.
Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

IN YOUR LEADERSHIP CARRIER, DON’T FORGET YOUR PRIMARY
PURPOSE IN DIVINE WORD UNIVERSITY
I would like to propose that the academy’s success hinges on the very two
factors.
The first is the capacity to inspire virtuosity. Divine Word University education
equips us with knowledge, habits of thought, ethical standards and eagerness to
learn that we need to succeed, in the huge array of tasks that we face as
citizens. It enables us to focus on the success of the group.
The second factor is university’s insistence on the free inquiry and open sharing
of ideas that any leader in a democratic society must honor.
In 1967, U.S.A Supreme Court Justice William Brennan
Wrote:
The classroom is peculiarly the ‘marketplace of ideas.’ The Nation's future
depends upon leaders trained through wide exposure to that robust exchange
of ideas which discovers truth ‘out of a multitude of tongues, rather than
through any kind of authoritative selection.’
For DWU MBSA, this aspect of leadership development is essential.
I won’t deny that we could do a better job if we were a little more explicit about
the mission. We really need to do a better job here.
Whatever fine‐tuning we undertake, let’s not abandon the core values of the
club PROMOTING THE MILNE BAY WAY.
03 JUNE 2016 Page 10
Final Remarks
No other citizens stand better prepared to become leaders. Today’s leaders and
heroes are among the most capable men and women on this earth. You’re well
on your way to becoming virtuosos who can take the helm confidently and
competently. A saying goes; “TODAYS EMPLOYERS WHERE THE YESTERDAYS
EMPLOYEES”.
As you do so, remember that your carrier needs friends outside the academy —
friends who will defend the value we place on expertise.
Please, please prove me right. As leaders, our members, our association, our
province are counting on us.
REMEMBER, AS EXISTING LEADERS, OUR LEADERSHIP MUST BE BASED ON THE
CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES AND VIRTUES. WHEN YOU BECOME A LEADER, YOU ARE
APPOINTED AND ANNOITED BY GOD BECAUSE THERE IS SOMETHING UNIQUE IN
YOU. YOU ARE POTENTIAL AND CAPABLE TO FACE LEADERSHIP DIFFICULTIES SO
THAT’S WHY YOU ARE CHOSEN. “ALL OF US ARE CALLED, BUT ONLY FEW ARE
CHOSEN”, SO YOU ARE THE FORTUNATE ONE TO BE A LEADER.
“EVERYTHING YOU DO, DO IT FOR THE GLORY OF GOD”
Thank you colleagues
I wish you every success in the 2016 academic year and in your carrier
BE PROUD TO BE A MILNE BAY CITIZEN
“TOGETHER WE STAND, THE BETTER WE DO”
God Bless You All

As you do so, remember that your carrier needs friends outside the academy — friends who will defend the value we place on expertise. Please, please prove me right. As leaders, our members, our association, our province are counting on us. REMEMBER, AS EXISTING LEADERS, OUR LEADERSHIP MUST BE BASED ON THE CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES AND VIRTUES. WHEN YOU BECOME A LEADER, YOU ARE APPOINTED AND ANNOITED BY GOD BECAUSE THERE IS SOMETHING UNIQUE IN YOU. YOU ARE POTENTIAL AND CAPABLE TO FACE LEADERSHIP DIFFICULTIES SO THAT’S WHY YOU ARE CHOSEN. “ALL OF US ARE CALLED, BUT ONLY FEW ARE CHOSEN”, SO YOU ARE THE FORTUNATE ONE TO BE A LEADER. “EVERYTHING YOU DO, DO IT FOR THE GLORY OF GOD” Thank you colleagues I wish you every success in the 2016 academic year and in your carrier BE PROUD TO BE A MILNE BAY CITIZEN “TOGETHER WE STAND, THE BETTER WE DO” God Bless You All
