Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communications and massive MTC for Industry
Clear5G project (EU-TW)
Aim: to design, develop, validate, and demonstrate an
integrated convergent wireless network for Machine Type
and Mission Critical Communication (MTC/MCC) services for
Factories of the Future (FoF)
FoF environments:
– time-critical processes
– dependence on timely delivered data from
massive numbers of sensors
– decisions having to be made and executed
in less than milliseconds

Defining key enablers necessary for MTC traffic in 5Gnetworks, aiming at the Factories-of-the-Future (FoF) environment.
Technical objectives
• PHY enhancements for reliable MTC
supporting massive numbers of devices,
extreme low latency, reduced signalling and
control overhead.
• MAC layer enhancements for integrated
convergent access supporting low latency,
high reliability, massive connection density,
and high energy and spectrum efficiency.
• RAN architecture and management
mechanisms aiming at latency,
heterogeneity, reliability, scalability and
manageability.
• Security enhancements at the physical layer
• Validate and demonstrate in testbed
facilities both in Europe and Taiwan.

Technical objectives • PHY enhancements for reliable MTC supporting massive numbers of devices, extreme low latency, reduced signalling and control overhead. • MAC layer enhancements for integrated convergent access supporting low latency, high reliability, massive connection density, and high energy and spectrum efficiency. • RAN architecture and management mechanisms aiming at latency, heterogeneity, reliability, scalability and manageability. • Security enhancements at the physical layer • Validate and demonstrate in testbed facilities both in Europe and Taiwan.
