3. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The reason of doing this report is to record and organize the important data that
we receive from the charity drive event. Basically in this project we need to bought
some good and sold it for a week in Taylor’s lakeside or outside Taylor, the net profit
that we got from this project will be donate to our organization that we choose which
is “Spastic Children's Association of Selangor & Federal Territory”.
The things that we put in this report are the objective of this event which is to
donate to our organization. We also put our target marketing either student in Taylor
or outside Taylor. We also put our product list, how our product’s packaging looks
like and what is the price for our product will be. Beside that we also include what we
has done to promote our product that makes people want to buy our products and the
important thing was the sponsor’s organization that helps us a lot with this event.
The last thing that we do is we calculate the sale that we receive from the
charity drive event and present the result in this report. We also state the role of our
team members to show that we have cooperation.
4. OBJECTIVE
We are required to run a one-week business operation for the purposes of charity to
achieved our goal which is to get RM3500 for the charity of our choices which is the
Spastic Children's Association Of Selangor & Federal Territory,a non-profit
organization
The objective of this assignment is to apply what we had learned in the
classroom.which is :
1. To form cooperation between group mates and being able to become a leader in
a business management.
2. Increasing awareness and being able to deal with with production management
such as managing with the planning, forecasting and production.
3. Being able to think and create a marketing strategies to increase sells and
productivity.
5. Target Market
For this charity drive, our main target would be the students and the staffs in the
campus. Hello Panda and Pepero existed since we were a little kid and so we decided
have them take a stroll back to the past to relieve the moment where they enjoyed
eating the snacks. Besides that, during tea breaks, some people would prefer having
something light like snacks. Morever, there are some foreign students who may have
never seen or eaten the snacks before. This would provide them the opportunity to try
it out. The spending power of these people are good because majority of the student
and staff population came from a good family background with comforatble lifestyle.
6. Competition Analysis
1. Group 3, Jerry Yee Ching (Potong)
This group had an advantage as they had a proper stall set up with well known
products and price listing. They also had a bigger customer base as they
walked around a lot promoting their products.
2. Group 6, Nadine Saedah (Brownies)
This group had an advantage because they were very consistent in collecting
donations. One of their team mate stood in the middle of SLC all day to collect
donations. From there, they managed to pull more customers to their booth.
7. Product & Packaging
PRODUCTS
We were selling five different products altogether. Two different types of flowers
( roses , gerberas ) and decorated spatula for mother’s day . The other two products
that we sold were the Korean retail products ( pepero ( flavored stick biscuit) and
Hello panda ( flavor fillings cookies)) which were the two main products for this
charity drive event.
As for the flowers, few days before the mother’s day, we went to purchase bouquets
of Roses and Gerberas and few sets of spatulas. And for the biscuit sticks, we bought
few big boxes from the grand meltique food trading in Jaya grocer.
The picture above shows our main products we were selling. The pepero and hello
panda biscuits.
8. The above pictures shows bouquets of flowers that we bought from the florist.
The left top photo shows the initial look of the spatula and the right are the decorated
spatulas.
PACKAGING
There’s no packaging strategy that we used for our products. This is so because the
biscuit sticks and the cookies already come with their own packaging. Whereby for
the flowers, there’s only a plastic holder to hold the petals of the flowers to avoid
them from wilting fast. And we carried the flowers and the spatula around in a basket
to sell as we do not have any booth yet that time.
9. Pricing
Unit Cost price :
4. Roses : Rm1.50 each
5. Gerberas : Rm 0.58 each
6. Spatulas: Rm 1.38each
7. Pepero: Rm 2.92 each
8. Hello Panda: Rm 2.90 each
Unit Selling Price:
1. Roses : Rm 4 each
2. Gerberas : Rm 4 each
3. Spatulas : Rm 4 each
4. Pepero : Rm 5 each
5. Hello Panda : Rm 5 each
10. Promotion
In marketing, promotions are important in order to efficiently sell one's product or
services to the customer. It is included in the marketing mix elements. The three basic
objectives of promotion are usually to present information to the customers, to
increase demand and to differentiate a product.
Thus, for our cause, we created a marketing message which was “Buy or donate is all
you need to help a kid” as it is for the Spastic Children's Association of Selangor &
Federal Territory (SCASFT). We used several ways to promote our products. First
was hand-produced posters. The hand-produced posters were designed with words
and cute and attractive pictures and this enables us to present our product and their
pricing to all the passerby directly in order to attract more customer. Besides that, the
arrangement of our products at our booth was arranged uniquely neat and attractive.
This enables the customers or passerby to easily notice all of our products without
wasting any time to scan and search. Last but not least, we also promote our products
through SMS text, telephone calls and face to face conversation. We mainly sell our
products to the people surrounding us like our family, friends, teachers and relatives.
So it was easy to promote through our daily conversation.
11. Sponsors
We requested sponsorship from the listed company:
6. Inderapura Food sdn bhd
7. Nutrifres Food & Beverages Industries Sdn Bhd
8. Zuryati Awang Architect Sdn Bhd
9. CERT,CENTRE FOR RESEARCH AND TRAINING.
We emailed the listed company to gained a sponsorship to sponsor our charity drive
which its profit will then be donated to the Spastic Children's Association Of
Selangor and we specifically requested a donation of RM500 from each of the
company to aid our charity drive. However we managed to get a replied from two of
the company which is Zuryati Awang Architect Sdn Bhd and CERT whom agreed to
financially sponsored us. We managed to get RM1000 in the form of cheque from
Zuryati Awang Architect Sdn. Bhd and RM750 in cash from CERT & Kong's. Here is
a view of our sponsor letters to the listed company.
12. Requesting Sponsorship for Charity Drive Event
We, the students from Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus, are currently
involved in a fundraising event as our school project in June 2014.
Our plan is to raise a total of RM3500.00 via sponsorships and product
sales. The fundraising event will be held for a week from 2nd
to 6th
June
under the supervision of our lecturer Mr. Chang Jau Ho. All profits earned
during the event will be donated to the Spastic Children's Association Of
Selangor & Federal Territory, a non-profit organization that provides
numerous services, facilities and activities that are used to care and treat
spastic children.
We are writing today to ask if you would consider donating RM500 to
help support our event. We believe that your generosity would go a long
way towards supporting the organization and their noble cause. If you
need more information about our event or have any questions you may
contact me.
Thank you.
13. Distribution
We got the Pepro and the Hello Panda biscuit sticks from a supplier at Jaya
grocer. Two days before the charity event we drove to the grand meltique food
trading in Jaya grocer and bought our first stock. We kept the stock at one of the
group members place until the day of the event, we went to bring them to campus.
Costumers would then buy our products directly from our booth i.e. through face to
face costumer service.
For the rest of the week we went to collect our new stock for the next day by
the end of the day. However, in the case of a stock shortage, as we are a group of
seven members, two of the group members would go and get the products during the
event before it completely runs out of stock. This would usually take no more than an
hour. Thus the costumers won’t have to wait for their product since we’re making
sure we don’t run out of stock.
Gladly, people seemed to be interested in our product specially the Pepero
chocolate sticks, however the number of costumers that we were able to effectively
reach were about 80 to 100 costumers. Some of these bought more than once and in
larger quantities.
Since our product is a light snack that people would usually take only during
their breaks or will crave for when they see in front of them. We didn’t consider
providing any ordering channels as we thought it is not a product where the
costumers would necessarily need.
14. Green Measures
Although in general , the products we chose to sell might have not been
manufactured in an entirely environmentally friendly manner. However, the products’
packaging for both the Pepero and Hello panda is made of paperboard folding carton
which can be recycled and in general not hazardous.
Besides that, we also tried our best to preserve the environment. First, when bringing
the products to campus. Instead of transporting the products using a car we used to
walk to Cindy's house which was located at Pjs 7/2 (where the stock was usually
kept), collect our stock and then walk back to campus. Second, instead of throwing
the products’ packages that has been emptied, we reused them to store our receipt
books and posters. Third, although a number of costumers requested plastic bags to
carry their goods in, yet we didn’t find it necessary to provide any plastic bags.
Firstly because we didn’t want to spend more money. Secondly because plastic bags
are known to be non-biodegradable, which is environmentally destructive. So instead
we provided them with the empty packages we had.

17. Reflection of group members
Adibah Awang
Through this assignment, I've experienced the hardship other people feel doing
business. Even though it was only for a week, I can’t imagine the people that have to
do this for a living. It was a good experience in terms of improving our social skills
such as planning and organization, interpersonal skills such as promoting and
communicating with customers. Some of the experiences we faced were not so good
such as failure to persuade customers to buy our products, rejection and failure to
reach our target. If given the chance to repeat this assignment one more time, I
would’ve thought of more products to sell, and came up with more tactics in
promoting our products.

18. Patricia Kong
1. (a) Things I did right : Well, I don't think that I did anything much that's right
unless driving my teammates to places can be called one.
(b) Things I did wrong : Basically I was pushing my own responsibilities away and I
slacked around instead of helping out.
2. If you can repeat 1 more time, what would you do differently?
Well, if we could rewind or do this one more time, I would definitely be more
persuasive and be more bold. This is because of my timid personality, I tend to give
up easily after persuading a passer-by. Also, I tend to lose my passion very quickly.
For example, when we were having the charity drive, I was so excited that I would be
walking around with one of my teammates and sell our products with the thought in
my head telling me that we would earn a lot. But all passion was lost when the actual
earning didn’t come out the way I would’ve expected.
Valentine Hew
Thing I did right : Choosing hello panda to sell was a pretty good idea. As I figured it
out, students might like it a lot and they would get it even if we doubled the price of
the products.
Thing I did wrong : Selling the spatulas was my idea, and I wasn’t a good thing to do.
So if I could turn back time, I would have come up with a better product or food to
sell.
19. General reflection : In this charity drive, I’ve learnt a lot. Knowing how hard is it to
build up and maintain a certain business no matter if it’s big or small. For us, we were
kind of worried that we are unable to reach the target because a lot of students were
complaining that the price we set was too high. But fortunately, there are also
students that purchase it without hesitating and also willing to buy it as an act for
charity. Things we could have improved might be asking for donation around the
campus. We didn’t get much from donation as it might be because our donation box
is not eye catching enough. But we could have be more persuasive and convincing
the people to do some donation.
Lim Chin Yi
This was a challenging yet meaningful project as we get to experience setting
up a business ourselves rather than just learning the theory in the typical classroom
settings. Besides, we also get to help the spastic children while learning through the
charity drive. I think I didn’t do a good job nor very a bad job in this project. I tried to
help whenever it’s possible.
There are many aspects to be improved. I should be more confident and
determined when approaching potential customers or donators. I shouldn’t get
frustrated and give up easily when I get rejected or ignored by people. If I were to
repeat this project, I would definitely be more passionate and confident when I
advertise my products so that we would get more customers.
20. Muhammad Afif
What I did right : Placing our product all over the table so that it can be view from
any view and angle as people are coming from every directions ,This helps the
customer to observe our stalls and our product before coming near to our stall and
reject our offers. This gives the customer times to make a decision whether to buy our
product or not.I think this method is more effective than a direct approached of the
customers which may discomforted or annoyed them.
What I did wrong : Our stall is lack of decorations and customers are reluctant to visit
our stall and if I could turn things the other way around, I would invest more time and
money in decorations and help decorates the stall so it will stand out from the other
stalls thus increasing the sells.
General reflection: From the charity drive,I’ve learnt to managed a business and
being able to understand how the business works and run. I’ve also learnt on how to
deal with the production management and how to be cooperative with other group
mates which may help turn me into a good leader one day.
Muhammad Azzam
In this assignment I have learn that they is no easy way to earn money and
build your own business. This assignment also makes me become more respect for all
people that doing business because this job is not easy likes me thought.
The thing that I’m doing right is I follow the order that has been given to me from our
21. leader or manager which is Adibah, even though I has done with my part I always
feel like I’m the one that not really serious in this project if I want to compare with
my another members.
So for the conclusion if I have another chance to make this charity drive or any
business in my future I will give all my strength and time to achieve the goal that I
want, from that I don’t make a same mistake like I have done in this charity drive.
Ghaida R.
Overall this was a good experience to me as I got to learn about taking
responsibilities for my own failure and success. Apart from that I got to understand
the bases of running a small business. What’s needed and what’s required. I’m now
more aware of how a business is managed in terms of finance, marketing…etc .
I think the choice of product was fairly good everyone seemed to be interested in the
product and some wanted more. However if I were to repeat this experiment again I
think I would try harder to promote the product. I gave up too easily in the first day
when the people around campus refused to buy so next time I think I would go more
around campus and probably outside to encourage people to try and buy our product.
