Why was it built?
Two main theories to why the Stonehenge was built
• The first theory was that it was built for
religious rituals and ceremonies
• The second theory was that it was built
as some sort of calendar. One to tell
astronomical phenomenas.
3. London’s Eye
❖ Each rotation takes about 30 minutes,
❖ Each rotation can carry 800 passengers.
❖ The height of the London Eye is 135m, making it the fourth tallest structure
in London.

❖ You can see around 40KM (25 miles) from the top as far as Windsor Castle
on a clear day

❖ The base of each of the clock face’s of the
Big Ben in London bears a Latin inscription
meaning, "Lord save our Queen Victoria I,"
❖ The bell of 'Big Ben' weighs almost 14 tons
5. Windsor Castle
❖ Was built in 1066.
❖ Windsor Castle is an official residence of The Queen and the largest occupied castle in the world.
❖ Any new Knights of the Garter are invested by The Queen in the Garter Throne Room.
❖ Windsor is the oldest and largest castle which can boast continuous occupation for over 900 year
❖ Windsor Castle consists of three “wards” - the upper ward , the middle ward and the lower ward.
❖ Windsor castle contains many dungeons which were occupied by many famous prisoners
6. Buckingham Palace
❖ Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms. These include 19 State rooms, 52 Royal and guest
bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms.
❖ Buckingham Palace gets its name from an eighteenth-century Tory politician
❖ Buckingham Palace is an office for the Head of State, as well as a home for The Queen
❖ More than 50,000 people visit the Palace each year as guests to banquets, lunches, dinners,
receptions and the Royal Garden Parties
❖ Has had many owners in the past.
