HOW TO OVERCOME FEAR OF PUBLIC SPEAKING
1. HOW TO OVERCOME FEAR OF PUBLIC
SPEAKING
A lot of people have fears and anxiety towards public speaking. They
are scared to make mistakes and think negatively about the results
that they might fail miserably. It is normal to feel nervous when
speaking in front for the first time but we should learn how to be
confident on the process. In fact, there are a lot of ways to overcome
fear in public speaking and how to become good at it. As the saying
goes:“Grandmasare moms with lots of practice.” Successdoesn’tjust
happen like; you also need to give a lot of effort for it to happen. For
example, involve yourself in activities that requires public speaking,
such as by cross-training a group from another department, or by
volunteering to speak at team meetings.
Always be positive and avoid negative thoughts. Fear makes it all too
easy to slip into a cycle of negative self-talk, especially right before
you speak, while self-sabotaging thought such as “I’ll never be good at
this!” or “I’m going to fall flat on my face!” lower your confidence and
increase the chances that you won’t achieve what you’re truly capable
of. Transform nervous energy into enthusiasm and always envision that
will succeed and do great.
2. Engage your audience. This makes you feel less isolated as a speaker
and keeps everyone involved with your message. Always be aware of
how you’re speaking, sit up straight and tall. If you’re nervous, you
might talk quickly. This increases the chancesthat you’ll trip over your
words, or say something you don’t mean. Relax, breathe deeply and
slow down. If you speak too fast your audience won’t have time to
digest everything you are saying and the meaning will most likely be
lost on them. Focus on slowing yourself down, give your words more
weight which will produce a better rhythm to your speech.
All in all, overcoming fear of public speaking isn’t really that hard as
long as you put effort in it. Remember all these tips and surely, you’ll
do great in your next presentation. Always think positive, and always
say to yourself that you can do it no matter what. Always realize that
you can get better. Your best work has not been done yet. Practice!
Practice! Practice!
