1. The title is the biggest font, attracting the
audience’s attention to it and making it
clear that this is the name of the film.
‘Perks’ and ‘Wallflower’ are in a bigger
size than the other words, emphasising
the importance of them and intriguing
the audience as it is an unusual
juxtaposition.
This statement is used to persuade the
audience to go and see it as it has already
been positively critiqued, making it likely
to be a good movie.
The bright background attracts the
audience and makes it eye-
catching, making more people
notice it. The yellow is symbolism
of optimism, warmth and
happiness. On the other hand, it
can also signify jealousy, anxiety or
fragility. As this is a teen movie set
in a high school, the colour can
therefore be used to reflect the up
and downsides of high school and
how a school can be the place
where friendships are formed but
also the place teenagers least
want to be.
Along with this, the characters are
stood behind a wall, symbolising
how a high school can be seen as
imprisoning, a feeling the
audience can relate to.
2. The lead actors of the movie’s names are
placed at the top. These show three well-
known young actors, such as Emma
Watson from the Harry Potter series and
Logan Lerman from the Percy Jackson
movies. These two sagas are aimed at
teenagers, making the audience familiar
with the names and would therefore
make them want to go and watch the film.
The billing block, which is a convention of a
movie poster, is placed below the title,
condensing the cast, crew and distributors
to the most-known names in small print.
As ‘COMING SOON’ is in a bigger size, it
makes it clear that this is a teaser poster,
explaining why there is no specific release
date. It also connotes why this poster is
very simple and the function of it is to
interest the audience early on.
The tagline is short and snappy, making it
effective as the audience will remember it.
As ‘we’ is a pronoun, it involves the
audience and empowers them. It further
relates to the teenage audience as younger
people are more optimistic and would
therefore feel important and ‘infinite’.
The poster uses social media to
advertise the movie as well, by having
a Facebook and Twitter page. This
gives the film an opportunity for a
larger audience as it is online and they
can see how many people ‘like’ or
‘follow’ it. It also gives the movie more
awareness and therefore a larger box
office.
The main characters are shown at the
bottom of the poster. This is rule of three,
making the poster have a more
interesting and intriguing photo. The
characters are positioned close together.
This may emphasise the imprisoning
school environment or it may just be
because the three are close friends. As
Logan Lerman and Emma Watson are
placed closer together than Ezra Miller, it
may suggest a relationship, attracting
female teenagers as this movie could be a
romance. As there are only three
characters, it makes it simple yet
attractive to the audience overall.
