2. Introduction
 As CEO of the Southeast Alaska Regional Health
Consortium (SEARHC), Charles Clement
facilitates quality healthcare for 18 Native
communities. Charles Clement's commitment to
Alaskan health extends from his professional life
to his personal life, and he accordingly supports
the Alaska Children's Trust.
The Alaska Children's Trust (ACT) exists to
support and protect children who are at risk for
violence and neglect. The organization fights
against abuse by investing in community
programs, relying on preventive strategies to
prevent the mistreatment of children.

3. Alaska Children's Trust
 Among its many programs for children and
families, ACT operates the Alaska Afterschool
Network. This program represents a collaboration
between non-profit organizations and the state
Department of Education. Together, they create
opportunities for after school enrichment and
educate communities on the many benefits young
people experience when they partake in safe after
school events.
Students who participate in after school
programming are much less likely to use drugs
and alcohol or commit crimes. They also develop
healthy study skills and build their self esteem,
leading to improved resiliency for life.
