What is Marketing?
• Marketing consists of using advertising, selling and delivering
products to consumers or another business.
• Marketing can be referred as the activities in which a company
undertakes to promote the buying and selling of a product or service.

The main purpose of
marketing is to
educate and inform
your customers.
Marketing is also
important to create
awareness and
capture the attention
of your target market.
Its also used to
persuade any
consumer to
purchase or use your
product.
Evolution
• Throughout American History marketing
has changed greatly throughout different
eras in the past 200 years.
Simple Trade Era (Pre-Industrial)
Mass Production Era (1860s-1920s)
Sales Era (1920s-1940s)
Marketing Department Era (1940s-1960s)
Marketing Company Era (1960s-1990s)
Relationship Marketing (1990s-2010)
Social/Mobile Marketing Era (2010-
Present)
Rise of Social
Media
In the year 2019, the number of social
media users had increased by 8.1 percent
compared to the previous year.
In 2025, growth is estimated to slow down
by a total of 3.3 percent, but as of today
there are approximately 3.4 billion social
media users amongst the world.

• Social media marketing can be defined as
the use of websites of other social
networks to promote a company’s product
or service.
• Social media marketing gives companies a
way to promote their culture and mission.
It also creates an easier form of
communication to new customers and
engagement with already or existing
customers.

• With the rise of social media its not
surprising to see the changes in which
marketers are spending towards social
media advertising.
• In 2019, ad spend had been more than
$89 billion and is likely to reach
around the price of $102 billion by the
end of this year.

Future of Marketing
As of today, social media and mobile marketing is
current form of what most company’s use to
promote their business.
As we can learned from the past history of
marketing, the market is always changing as time
moves on and the current trends fade away.
Future Trends
• According to the IMD Business School, there are at least seven upcoming
trends that will have an impact of the future of marketing.
1. The increase of complexity in consumer purchasing decisions.
2. Personalization in product design.
3. Mobile communication are becoming the center piece of marketing.
4. Transparency will dictate brand-customer relationships.
5. Personalized data-driven market will become more friendly.
6. The emerge of more accurate metrics.
7. The marketing organization will move from digital silos to integrated
teams.

Transparency will dictate brand-customer relationships. 5. Personalized data-driven market will become more friendly. 6. The emerge of more accurate metrics. 7. The marketing organization will move from digital silos to integrated teams.
