If you are mapping your course to one of our books you can create assignments and schedule all of your assignments for the entire semester in less than 20 minutes!
Using our new Section Copy feature you can now create one course and roll it out to any instructor at your institution with just a few clicks. You also have the ability to easily and efficiently change due dates from one screen to get your instructors up and running quickly.
It is now easier than ever to accommodate your students in completing their assignments. From one screen you can now schedule any assignment for a single student or group of students in one click with multiple ways to incorporate their assignment into the grade book.
We have approximately 80 new SAM Computer Concepts tasks that cover computer fundamentals, such as computer hardware and software, networks, the Internet, and information literacy. Similar to our SAM Office tasks, each Computer Concepts task includes a Training Scenario and 2 Assessment Scenarios. In the Training Scenario, students use the Observe mode to navigate through the task’s topics. Each task is organized into 5-8 topics that consist of 60-90 seconds of animation with voiceover. Because these Concepts tasks are knowledge-based (rather than skill-based), the Assessment scenarios consist of drag-and-drop and matching activities that test the students’ comprehension of the Observe topics.
We now have more than 30 Mind Tap Readers available with SAM to give your students a full suite of online resources. Many of our Media Rich eBooks have embedded videos, highlighting and notetakeing, wiki searching, read speak, flash cards and more!
In addition to ourSAM Gradebook, you can also access brand new reports in SAM, including Institutional Reports that can be run on specific Exam and Project assignments across all sections. You can also take advantage of new student-specific frequency analysis reports that allow you to drill down to the individual student level to gain a better understanding of the specific skills your students are struggling to master. Use the Score Normalization for Projects to set the maximum score to a value other than 100 (for example, setting each Project to 50 points), having all step weights automatically normalize as a result.
Now that we’ve reviewed all of the new functionality recently added into SAM 2010, let’s switch gears and talk about SAM 2013. Remember – all of the SAM 2010 functionality we just talked about will also be available in SAM 2013. SAM 2013 v1.0 will be released in late June and will include intro-level Assessment, Training and Projects for Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word. It will also include both Windows 8 and Windows 7 tasks, as well as the new Computer Concepts tasks and our Office Introductory-level MindTap Readers.
Our new intro tab includes multiple clickpath methods for completing the task to give your students many options. We also have new MAC hints – if the task is completed on a MAC differently than it is on a PC we have provided students with the MAC specific clickpath so that we’ve got your MAC and PC users covered!
The new playback feature video records students clicks when they complete a task incorrectly. The mouse is green during the correct clicks and turns red when they make the incorrect click making it easy for the instructor to identify the incorrect click. The playback is accessible to the instructor through the individual performance report.
We are excited to roll out brand new SAM Projects for SAM 2013. These new SAM Projects are much more tightly integrated with the chapter learning objectives, meaning that they were designed to cover the key learning objectives in each chapter. Additionally, the Word, Excel and PowerPoint projects are Mac-compatible – students will be able to complete these projects successfully on a Mac, as well as on a PC. You can also look forward to improved cheating detection that detects copying and pasting between files, as well as partial credit grading that allows students to still receive some credit for performing part of a step correctly. For example, if you have a step that requires the student to change the font type and size, and the student only changes the font type, the student would receive half the allocated points for that step.
With the SAM 2013 1.0 release, we are overhauling the current design of the Student Assignment pages. Students will be able to access SAM Assignments either through a Calendar view, or a modernized version of the List view. Additionally, we’ll have new reports designed to work with some of our new SAM 2013 features, including adding the Video Playback option to the Exam Individual Assessment Reports, as well as updating the Projects reports to reflect partial credit grading.
We’re excited to announce the SAM MindTap Programthat will be available for select introductory-level Office 2013 books for this fall. This new offering will allow you to schedule SAM Assignments via a pre-packaged learning path for your textbook through your campus LMS. Students can access these SAM Assignments directly from their LMS, and if you’re school is using BlackBoard or D2L (and has the Cengage Learning building block), results will be automatically pushed into the LMS gradebook. This will be available for a limited, qualified release in Fall 2013 with a full product launch targeted for 2014. More information to come – we will have a demo available in March that will be showcased at our spring Cengage events, including our National Conference and in scheduled Webinars.
