2. The African
Elephant – the
world’s largest
terrestrial animal
• A member of the Big 5
• Adult males grow to
heights of 6 – 7.5m
• Has no natural
predators in the wild, but
baby elephants are
vulnerable to attack.
3. The Goliath Frog – the world’s largest anuran
• Grows to lengths of 15m!
• Can live for 15yrs in he wild & up to 21yrs in captivity
• Is native to Cameroon & Equatorial Guinea

4. The African Giant Snail –
the world’s largest
terrestrial mollusc
• Native to tropical African
countries like Sierra Leone &
Benin
• An invasive species that has
now settled in Barbados &
Florida.
• Is considered as a pest but
some folks keep it as pets.
• Can grow to lengths of up to
20cm
5. The Ostrich – the world’s
largest living bird
• Is also the fastest two-legged
animal in the world & the fastest
bird on land!
• Lays the biggest eggs of any living
bird
• Adult males grow to heights of up
to 2.8m
• Native to Africa but bred across
the world for its feathers
6. The Giraffe – the
tallest living
terrestrial ruminant
• Adult males reach
heights of 5-6m tall
• Their neck is up to 2m
long & accounts for
nearly half their length.
• A giraffe’s feet is
roughly the size of a
dinner plate
• Females use their
hooves as weapons to
protect their babies – a
kick powerful enough
to kill a lion!
