Helzi Sy - An Immigrant Success story
My first encounter with Hlezi was as

Women’s Association of Manitoba,
Inc. Hlezi was impressive, highly
qualified and articulate. The mention of
her name in the African community
elicits commendations such as “very
brilliant,” “very qualified”, “very
successful in her field.” These are not
over-dramatic statements. Hlezi is all
of that and more. She is quiet,
unassuming and there’s a definite air of
humility about her and her soft
spokenness draws one in. My second
encounter recently I learned she is the

Analysis at Agriculture Canada where
she was recently recognized for
reaching her 15 year milestone with the
federal public service.
Hlezi was missing in action for a few years. I learned she had moved to Mexico but now she is back and I
