1. My name isCarinaOliveiraandIam writingto youon behalf of the RyersonTheatre School (RTS) at
RyersonUniversity –one of Canada’spremiertrainingprogramsforacting,dance,and technical
production. RTSoffersprofessional trainingandanopportunityforstudentstolearnfromveteran
actors, directors,choreographers,designers,playwrights,scholars,andtechnicians.RTSstudentsare
admittedthroughacompetitive applicationprocessof auditionandportfolioreview.RTSalumni are
currentlyonstage,backstage,orinthe administrativeofficesof CanadianStage,the StratfordFestival,
the Shaw Festival,onBroadway,inNationalandInternational Tours,atthe National Ballet,The Toronto
Dance Theatre,andmany,manyothermajor arts organizations.
Last Fall, an extraordinaryopportunityhasoccurredfora selectgroupof 26 studentsfromthe Ryerson
Theatre School includingactors,dancers,andtechnical productionstudents.We have beeninvitedto
representCanadainGreece inJuly2012, performingthree worldpremiereplaysaspartof three major
international festivals:the MiaouliaFestival inHydra,the AthensFestivalinAthens,andthe Aisxylia
Festival of Eleusina.We will alsotake partina three-dayinternationalSymposiumforleadingscholars,
artists,and mental healthpractitioners,photojournalists,andmilitarypersonnel all lookingatthe roles
of womeninwartoday.
Duringthe month of May our26 studentswill rehearse 6daysa weekfrom10-6. On June 19 we board
for Greece andwill be touring there till July18.Our missionforwhenwe come back,isto have the
RyersonTheatre School breakgroundinternationallyandtosupportthose whosufferfrompost-
traumaticstressdisorderafterthe war.We will alsoholdagala and presentthe three worldpremiered
playsinCanada, at the RyersonTheatre withinvitedspecial guests.
Thisopportunitytoparticipate inthisinternational tourisanhonourfor our Theatre School,our
University,forourregionandfor ourcountry.
We are currentlyseeking grants,sponsorships,andotherfundingopportunitiestohelpsupportthis
incrediblejourneyabroad. We are requestingaGrant or In-kindSponsorshipfromthe Rogers
CommunicationsInc. atthe amountof $250-1000 anytime before June 1st. AnyIn-kindSponsoringwill
providedwithcollateral withlogosonshow programs.
