We’ve been keeping an eye on the number of job ads on LinkedIn in 18 European countries since Week 13 of 2020 – extended to 36, and ultimately 38 countries since Week 15 and 17 respectively. We analyze the collected figures and observe if and what kind of trends there are, to leverage them into better career management & more effective job search methods.
In mid-September we decided to extend our job market observations with a focus on LinkedIn to countries outside Europe to gain a more global insight. This is the third report on our findings and this time it's about the 20 biggest economies in the world. In this report we analyzed Weeks 39 to 53 of 2020.
Our special reports are released “live” to our subscribers and then published for the public with a delay of 4-6 weeks. If you would like to become a subscriber and regularly receive our special reports, email us at Bichl.Sandra@CareerAngels.eu. Subject: Special Reports.

4. #20: Turkey
Despite experiencing negative results a few times, Turkey's overall trend in
the past few weeks has been very positive. The difference between Week
39 and Week 53 is 47.2%, which equals to 2413 more job ads published on
LinkedIn.
5. #19: Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia started off with a low number of published job ads on
Linkedin that shot up in Week 42 (52.5%). Since then, the results have been
unstable, but still remaining at a much higher level than in Week 39, and
more than 7,000 job ads published on LinkedIn.
6. #18: Switzerland
Switzerland's results shot up between Week 39 and Week 41, with the
difference being 44.5%. Since then, the number of job ads published on
LinkedIn has remained at a relatively similar lever, although alternating
between increasing and decreasing almost weekly.
7. #17: Netherlands
Despite a good number of peaks, the Netherlands' overall tendency has
been negative. It saw its highest number in Week 42. Since Week 48, the
results have remained below the initial level, and Week 52 brought the
country's worst result - a decrease of -40.6% and 295,303 job ads published
on LinkedIn.
8. #16: Mexico
The majority of Mexico's weekly changes have been subtle. Week 47 was
an exception when the number of job ads published on LinkedIn grew by
30%. The country also experienced a sharp decrease in Week 50 (-18.6%).
Since then, the number has fallen below the initial level.
9. Weekly changes - Part 1
Mexico, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Turkey
10. #15: Indonesia
Despite a promising first week and a 9.9% increase, Indonesia's number of
published job ads on LinkedIn fell drastically in Week 41, by 30%. There was
a handful of increases (Week 46 and Week 49), but overall, the number has
remained at the same level.
11. #14: Spain
Between Week 39 and Week 43, Spain experienced a steady growth in the
number of job ads published on LinkedIn, only to fall back in the following
weeks. Despite a slight increase in Week 47, the results remained
negative, and as of Week 53, the number is at its lowest since Week 39.
12. #13: Australia
Until Week 46, Australia's number of job ads on LinkedIn would increase
almost bi-weekly, only to fall back to the same level. That changed in
Week 49, when the country saw its highest result of 144,900 job ads (a 27%
increase over three weeks). Afterwards, the number started decreasing
drastically and fell below the initial level.
13. #12: Brazil
Brazil's number of job ads published on LinkedIn remained almost
unchanged for the majority of our observations. Two weeks are an
exception: Week 44, with a 311.5% spike, and then a 142% increase in
Week 47. Although we suspect that there might have been a glitch on
LinkedIn.
14. #11: Russia
For the majority of our observations, Russia's number of LinkedIn job ads has
remained stable, with the exception of some significant changes between
Weeks 43 and 48. The number grew by 48% in Week 44, remained at a
similar level for a week, only to start falling drastically until Week 48, where
it reached its lowest point of 20,733 job ads.
15. #10: South Korea
South Korea's numbers of published LinkedIn job ads have been rather
unstable - they were decreasing for the first two weeks, increasing for the
next three, and then decreasing for another three. This alternating trend
has continued, although the decreases have been more drastic starting in
Week 51, and the number of LinkedIn job ads keeps falling.
16. Weekly changes - Part 2
Australia, Indonesia, Russia, South Korea, Spain
17. #9: Canada
After a few weeks of growth, followed by a slight decrease, Canada
experienced a significant rise in its number of job ads published on
LinkedIn in Week 46 (19.4%). It remained high until Week 49 (323,119 job ads
- the best result so far).
18. #8: Italy
Italy's graph is almost symmetrical between Week 39 and Week 51, with
the second half being somewhat less uniform. In Week 47, the country
noted its highest result of 156,787 job ads, which was an 81.4% increase
from its initial level. As of Week 53, however, it's almost back at the starting
point with 92,724 job ads published on LinkedIn.
19. #7: France
France is another country with unstable results, alternating between
negative and positive tendencies. The highest result was noted in Week 44
(1,523,786 job ads published on LinkedIn). The lowest number was reported
in Week 51, when it fell below the initial level by -27%.
20. #6: India
India experienced increasingly positive trends, followed by decreases that
always brought it to the previous level. The first peak happened in Week 40,
another one between Weeks 41 and 44, and the most significant one
between Weeks 45 and 49. Nevertheless, the result from Week 53 is only
4.5% higher than the initial number of job ads on LinkedIn.
22. #5: United Kingdom
For the most part, the UK's results were somewhat stable, with an overall
positive trend and just two hiccups in Weeks 42 and 48. In Week 49, a clear
decreasing tendency began. The number of job ads published on LinkedIn
plummeted in the last week of the year, with the difference from Week
52 being -79.9%!
23. #4: Germany
Even though Germany's results seemed promising for the first few weeks,
in Week 45 the number started falling rather significantly. Week 52 noted
the country's most drastic decrease over the course of 14 weeks: -60.4%
and 921.907 fewer job ads published on LinkedIn.
24. #3: Japan
Japan is one of the winners of this report, with its number of job ads
published on LinkedIn growing significantly over the course of 14 weeks of
