High-resolution topography is a powerful tool for studying the Earth's surface, vegetation, and urban landscapes, with broad scientific, engineering, and educational-based applications. Over the past decade, there has been dramatic growth in the acquisition of these data for scientific, environmental, engineering and planning purposes. In the US, the U.S. Geological Society is undertaking the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) to map the entire lower 48 with lidar by 2023. The richness of these topography datasets make them extremely valuable beyond the application that drove their acquisition and thus are of interest to a large and varied user community. A cyberinfrastructure platform that enables users to efficiently discover, access and process these massive volumes of data increases the impact of investments in collection of the data and catalyzes scientific discovery as well as informs critical decisions that are made across our Nation every day that depend on elevation data, ranging from immediate safety of life, property, and environment to long term planning for infrastructure projects. Join us to hear about the motivations, technology, and data assets behind the National Science Foundation funded OpenTopography platform, which aims to democratize access to high resolution topographic data. OpenTopography’s innovation is in co-locating massive volumes of topographic data with processing tools that enable users with varied expertise and application domains to quickly and easily access and process data, to enable innovation and decision making.

Croatia has strong legacy in Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) domain. First activities started already at the begging of 21st century with few studies about possibilities for data exchange between different institutions on governmental level. All activities which followed those studies were formalised in Act on State Survey and Real Cadastre in 2007 (Official Gazetteer 13/2007). In period after Law come in force all activities were focused on formal framework of establishment of National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) which resulted with three level hierarchy of NSDI Bodies; Council, Board and Working groups. That period can be treated like phase 1.0 of SDI establishment in Republic of Croatia. From 2013 Croatia become member of European Union and with other obligations we needed to transpose Directive 2007/2/EZ to our legislation which was made in May of 2013 with Act on National Spatial Data Infrastructure (Official Gazetteer 56/2013). With that Act Croatia become legally compatible with EU legislation in domain of SDI and implementation on operational level started. Formal structure was kept, with introducing State Geodetic Administration like National Contact Point for NSDI and INSPIRE. Many new activities come with putting Act on NSDI in force; creating of NSDI Registries, creating of National metadata catalogue and publishing of National geoportal. During 2014 activities on Monitoring of SDI/INSPIRE in Croatia also were accomplished. All those activities were very operational, with focus on real implementation and according to that that phase can be treated like phase 2.0. in SDI development in Republic of Croatia. In scope of this work brief overview of main activities for phase 1.0 and phase 2.0 will be made.

WAM is the web runtime used in LG webOS (both for its products and the Open Source Edition), and has been adopted by Automotive Grade Linux. It is built on top of Chromium web engine and its Ozone Wayland backend. In this presentation I will showcase its main features, and talk about its history, from HP/Palm devices, through LG TV and its Raspberry PI Open Source Edition, to end with its adoption in AGL. WAM, also known as WebAppManager, or Web Application Manager, is a system service providing web runtime capabilities in LG webOS and AGL platforms. Its goals are: * Performance through reuse of resources among web applications. * Provide a native-like experience to applications based on the Web Platform standards. It has been a central part of LG webOS in all its flavours, including LG webOS Open Source Edition. As such, it provides a great example of how to integrate the web experience in a Linux system, providing graphics integration through Wayland protocol. It will be a history of web engines. From QtWebKit, to QtWebEngine, to a custom embedding API directly on top of Chromium. This is also going to be a history of the flexibility of the platform, as it was possible to integrate it not only on webOS, but also in the different releases of Automotive Grade Linux, even after different architecture rewrites. This presentation will highlight the strong points that make WAM specially flexible for integrating in different Linux platforms. A retrospective of the main milestones of WAM in last decade. ASSESSMENT TASK – 02 Value: 15% Due Date: 10-Apr-2020 The Department of Spatial Information (DSI) is a State Government department. The major function of DSI is to provide accurate and timely spatial information to other Government departments, but also to make some of this spatial information available to the public. In order to provide both the government and public services, DSI has developed a number of web services that deliver this information through a number of internally developed services and applications. This suite of web services and applications is referred to as the DSI Online Spatial Delivery System (OSDS). The OSDS is considered essential by DSI and their users, so these services must be: • Readily available and accessible at all times, • Capable of handling heavy loads in times of peak demand, • Capable of serving downloads to users as required, • Secure from attacks, • Capable of providing detailed reports on usage. DSI have a number of new projects being developed that are expected to increase the demand for its spatial data dramatically. The Executive Management of DSI have looked at a number of proposals to support these new programs. The two alternatives they are investigating are: 1. Increasing the internal DSI Data Centre capacity to host and support the new projects in the OSDS. This would probably need a 50% increase in web infrastructure and support services within the Department. This would necessitate an increase in data centre infrastructure, server numbers as well as a major increase in the bandwidth available to DSI. 2. Migrating the OSDS to a Cloud provider. This would allow DSI to continue to develop and refine the data in its internal Maintenance systems and then move a copy of the completed data to the cloud-based Delivery system for publication. DSI Management would like to adopt Proposal 2, in order to meet their budget restrictions, but have asked you to prepare a report for the DSI Board that looks at the following aspects of the proposal: 1 . The possible delivery and deployment models that DSI should adopt for a cloud-based OSDS. This should include: a. The advantages and disadvantages of using either an IaaS or PaaS approach for the OSDS, (20 marks) and b. The possible architecture(s) that could be used to deploy the OSDS (20 marks). 2 . Should the Board consider the use of a Cloud Edge solution for the OSDS? What advantages and disadvantages would the Edge give to the OSDS? (20 marks) 3. The OSDS software architecture uses a monolithic approach to design, while a move to use the Edge will require many applications and web services to be redesigned as micro services. a. Explain the differences between monolithic and micro service architectures to the DSI Board using an example (20 marks). b. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of these two styles of software architecture (20 marks) 4 . Your recommended approach for delivery and deployment of the OSDS, including the reas.

Recently, mapping technologies have been optimized for the increased power of modern mobile devices. This talk will give an overview of what Google offers to mobile developers, including Android MapView and iPhone MapKit, and will demonstrate how to get started with the new Google Maps API version 3, which has been optimized for mobile devices.
