Migrating your business’s data to the cloud can seem intimidating.
Maybe you have specific security concerns, or just happen to have data
that is not logical to manage using legacy hardware – making the
decision to store your data in the cloud is making a large decision
regarding your IT infrastructure.
If you’re considering migrating to the cloud, you should partner with an experienced and
knowledgeable cloud solution advisor. While every business is unique, your partner’s previous
experiences will help guide their recommendations and implementation plan. And if your
partner can offer you multiple solutions, even better.
At Razor Technology, we understand businesses vary significantly in requirements, and there is
not a one-size-fits-all solution for every data migration project. That’s why we utilize various
best of breed technologies and will work with you to find the perfect solution that meets your
performance and budgetary requirements.
To make things even easier, we’ve put together some recommendations for simplifying your
migration to the cloud and ways we can help.

Have an answer to “Why?”
The cloud isn’t just a buzzword - if you don’t know why you’re migrating to the cloud, you’ll want to first
identify the pain points you’re trying to fix. We believe knowledge is equally as important as
technology, and we’ll help you identify a business case for transitioning to the cloud. Some possible
reasons for migrating to the cloud are to simplify data
backup, recover successfully, and make your data
accessible from anywhere and any device. It is possible to
accomplish all this while increasing data securing and privacy.
Map out your storage needs
At the start of the data migration project, we’ll work with you to determine your storage needs. How
much data are you producing, and is it all going to the cloud? Are you going to start acquiring more
data, and what will your future for data growth look like? Our cloud solutions are incredibly flexible
and can adapt and scale to your growing business requirements, but it’s helpful to have an
understanding of your storage requirements.
Understand your security requirements
While every business should be concerned about its data security, not every business has the same
needs. Do you need compliance to certain regulations? Do you have specific access restrictions? Do
you have a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy, or remote employees?
If you require compliance with PCI, HIPAA, SOX, GLB, or SEC, Razor Tech offers an agentless
architecture, AES-256 bit encryption data backup solution to maximize your data security. We also
provide additional services such as firewall solutions, network security and vulnerability assessments,
intrusion and threat detection and prevention, and data governance planning.
We believe knowledge
is equally as important
as technology.”

Establish a timeline
You don’t need to move all of your data at once. Depending on your business requirements and
complexity, it may make more sense to move your data in phases. When approaching a data
migration project, Razor Tech establishes a firm timeline for the data migration so that there is as
little slowdown to your daily operations as possible. We’ll help compile a list of priorities so that
you’ll receive the greatest improvement to performance as early as possible.
Do a deep dive cost analysis
Do you know what the advantages are of having an operating expense vs. a capital expense that
you can achieve by moving to the cloud?
While the cloud can be a more cost-effective alternative to tape-based backup mediums, you’ll
want to know the answer to a few other questions as well. Will you still be maintaining legacy
systems? How will your staff’s time be spent? Are you improving processes elsewhere? Do you
know how all of these expenses add up at the end?
Determine the impact on current systems
In preparing your project scope, Razor Technology will work with you to determine the migration’s
impact on current systems by mapping out your current applications, and seeing where potential
conflicts exist. If we find a conflict, we’ll have a plan in place to minimize its impact; we’ll make sure
there is as little disruption to your services as possible.
Ensure you have the training you need
One of the most important parts of a successful data migration project is receiving the training to
maintain and adjust systems post-migration. We take training seriously and will work with you and
your team to educate you on your new cloud solution.
