Content Opinion
Current KTP website
The current KTP website is clustered with information that lacks a clear organization for the
users to navigate through, and it has lots of contents that overlap with each other. Even though
the content is rich in format – videos, photos, articles, blogs, products, etc, they are not readily
effective on the site and serve for the goal of this website. We know KTP is aiming to become a
nationally known and trusted children’s software provider, and want to become more relevant
from a search engine perspective than they are currently. They wish to create a feeling of
credibility and trust with their potential customers (mostly schools and parents). For the website,
they have limited staff/resources for the creation and management of contents for their website.
Credibility and Trust Content Opportunities
To build credibility and trust, the KTP website should address concrete examples of their
products, services, and positive feedback from the customer. To illustrate these, pictures and
videos are good resource to render. Pictures and videos are refined information in a visual form,
they can give the audience direct sense of what the product looks like, build the professional
expression by constantly showing in series of relevant pictures and videos, and support the
credibility from their customers’ comments. In the home page and the banner area, it is
important to put the most essential information up front, so that it is easy and trustworthy to
capture for the new users. The banner area should also address some testimonials in a way of
“cover flows”, so the user will be exposed to the constant and organized information intuitively
when they are on the website.
To make the navigation to shop the products easily, it should have clear titles and categories to
direct the users. It is good to render that in a hierarchical way, where the user can access partial
preview of the product in the product category pages, and see the details in the full view page
cascaded from the category page. As each product is also connected to a bunch of other related
products, they can be categorized in a same manner in order to get the user’s attention and
remain them on the website longer.
To keep the returning users coming back, the blog area is a good place to engage people and
encourage conversations. It might be possible to have people refer their comments to a certain
product on the website, as they might be discussing around the products they have bought. Also,
2. the company can speak authentically on the blog area, in order to build long-term trust through
personal blog conversations with the customers.
To eliminate spreadsheet, there should be a way for the users to access necessary information
when needed. It can appear in one place but only to provide its existence in the right time, say
from the “other side nav” block in the new design. It can also appear on the “other resources”
area from the “documents” section.
Efficiently Maintaining the Website
To maintain the site effectively and efficient, it is important to build out the framework for both
front-stage and back-stage in the very beginning, so that’s the reason we need to redesign the
site structure carefully at first. Once the relevant information is grouped in a nice way, as
suggested in the new wireframe, it is easy to keep updating with refreshed contents. Every piece
of the content should have metadata that relate it to a certain information category, which will
be placed under one of the navigation item – products, documents, people (including FAQs for
the respective user groups), blog and about (everything about the company). Then it is effective
to renew without overlapping, and efficient in re-accessing or modify them with specific
metadata to identify. It is also good for SEO approach, so that the website keywords will be
specified with their intended usage. Utilizing existing CMS like Wordpress or Drupal is also useful,
in terms of reducing the tedious coding work when updating contents.
