There’s a growing slice of Emerging Tech in the chunk of this earth we live in. We have Artificial
Intelligence (AI) in our cars, our mobile phones - it has crept into our social networks and our
workplaces too. When I dive into the pool of possibilities, I can see AI brewing whiskey, writing ads,
editing docs, or driving autonomous cars. Blockchain technology is opening up a new world where we
trade in crypto and keep our data and transactions safe and tamper-proof. ‘No Time to Die’, the 25th
James Bond movie going ahead with crypto backing, is a pointer to the winds of change EmTech is
sweeping around us.
The strengths of the disruptive ABCD (Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cloud Computing & Data
Analytics) quartet of EmTech are known. But as we build a ‘Digital First’ world, a few super niche
technologies are making a splash. You all know of Facebook rebranding itself as Meta. The social
media giant has invested heavily into Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) to create a
Metaverse or an immersive digital world. Metaverse is the next stage of internet evolution. In this
virtual environment, we can connect by putting on VR headsets and AR glasses.
With technology, it’s possible to collaborate, attend meetings, play, work, sit in an amphitheatre,
try clothes, all in a virtual world. Niche technologies like AR/VR are resetting the future of work and
helping us stay connected. We are looking at 75 billion connected devices by 2025, and I’m counting
on EmTech to weld people on these devices, digitally. My vision of Emerging Tech is the one that
stitches the real and virtual worlds- where social robots work in harmony with us and automation
creates more jobs than it could steal. EmTech that delights by sucking hassles out of our mundane
lives. What if you have AI assistants and bots for dinner reservations, home renovations, shopping
and comparing products on costs and quality?
My bets are also on EmTech to save lives- robots doing surgeries with clinical accuracy and immersive
technologies helping us grow human organs in labs. At CSM Technologies, we have grown with
EmTech and used it to better the lives of countless people. Let’s stay invested in this EmTech dream.
and harvest more possibilities.

Feel the pulse of
Emerging Tech…
The 20th century is witness to a tidal wave of technology-led disruptions.
Life today has taken such a transformative turn from what it was in the
19oos. Mobile telecommunications and the internet set the first wave of
disruption, drastically changing how we talk, shop, learn and travel. Just
look at the pace at which technology is growing- what took a decade or
more in R&D for a Next-Gen tech is now possible in a few years or even
months. The computing and processing capacity of computers hits double
figures every 18 months, and every second, 127 new devices are connected
to the internet. In Q1 of 2022, 4.66 billion people will be using the internet.
Emerging Technologies
6
Today, Emerging Technologies is not only a buzzword; it has
crept into our day-to-day lives without many of us knowing
about its quiet yet pervasive presence. If you look around you,
youcanfeelthewideningusecasesofEmergingTechnologies.
From the smart bulb that illumines your home to the Smart
Buildings in your Smart City, there's a touch of Emerging
Technology.
By using sensors, smart thermostats can now monitor indoor
and outdoor air temperature, humidity, and people's presence
in a room. Smart cars with 360-degree sensors are not new to
us.Still,doyouknowthereareabout170electricplaneprojects
in development, mainly for private, corporate and commuter
travel? Airbus says it could have 100-passenger electric planes
ready for take-off in 2030.
Companies are looking to leverage emerging technologies for
three key reasons: building trust, driving growth, and shaping
change. NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), sovereign cloud, data
fabrics, generative AI, and composable networks define the
roadmap of a change. Yes, this innovation can cut the wrong
way too. Cybersecurity is a raging concern. Fifty-six records
get compromised every second. There are 6 billion stolen
records in the US, and in January last year, about 1.76 billion
user records got leaked. Technology is that double-edged
sword; we must not forget that malafide people can have
a grip over it. Yet, technology is the staple of our existence.
By adopting technologies as they evolve and enabling ample
safeguards, we can secure our future growth.

There has never been a better time for the Tech Industry than the one brought in by the Covid-19
pandemic. This pandemic debilitated economies and challenged the health infrastructure readiness
of countries. Yet, the same pandemic opened up a goldmine of opportunities for the tech companies
as enterprises wished to fast pedal their digital transformation journey. Today, the global IT industry
is valued at USD 5 trillion. Tech companies and investment opportunities (on digital technologies)
are growing at a compelling rate across the US, Europe, and the Asia Pacific, especially in the new
and emerging technologies space like the Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its sub-
fields like Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning, Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain,
Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Augmented Reality & Virtual Reality (AR/VR), 3D printing, cyber
security, and cloud-enabled services.

Artificial
Intelligence
Decoding
the future of
possibilities
By Rasmikant Das
The term Artificial intelligence (AI)
was first coined in 1956 by John
McCarty. He defined AI as the
Science and engineering of making
intelligent machines. In a broad
sense, AI is a technique of getting
machines to behave like a human. AI
has been used to create machines,
robots that are being used in
healthcare, robotics, marketing,
business, analytics, government,
and many more. In reality, AI is
being used in our day-to-day work
nowadays.
Also, Alexa decoding your
commands and acting in sync with
them.Startingfromfaceverification
on an iPhone, Autopilot feature in
Tesla, finding an optimized path
through Google map- these are not
just remarkable use cases but a
testimony to the strength of AI.
Emerging Technologies
12
Data shows that the use of AI in many business sectors
has zoomed by 270 per cent over the last four years.
The momentum behind this AI transformation is the
capturingmassiveamountsofdatapointseveryday.And
the data scientist uses all that data to train machines
and learn and predict what we want. We will see more
interesting AI use cases in the near future. For instance,
in Netflix, we could sprawl on the sofa and order up a
custom movie, featuring virtual actors of our choice.
Robotic Process Automation (RPA) will reduce the time
to complete repetitive tasks and make the task more
effective. Chatbots will help to get a clear view of the
customer’s mind and take real-time decisions. There will
be lots of autopilot trucks and vehicles moving around.
Advances in AI will reach the super intelligence stage
in the next few years. Apart from lots of opportunities,
there are serious concerns as well. AI comes with its
own ethical and security issues, and it causes privacy
concerns to businesses. Noted techpreneur and Tesla
founder Elon Musk stated that AI is the real risk to the
existence of human civilization. Whether AI is a threat
or a goldmine of opportunities- just keep an eye to know
how disruption pans out in the near future.

Blockchain
How it is evolving beyond digital currency
The rate at which innovation is brewing in the blockchain space is astonishing. Today, blockchain is
permeating into all industries- digital or non-digital. Before 2009, the term ‘blockchain’ didn’t even
appear in the mainstream media, but now you see advertisements of crypto exchanges on television
while watching the most coveted IPL cricket matches. Buses in global cities like London, Seoul, New
York etc. are wrapped with crypto advertisements, and YouTube is replete with videos about crypto.
The inflection point for relentless innovation
It’s Ethereum that opened the gates of innovation in blockchain. It can do much more than maintain
a ledger of token ownership, transfer & verification. It can execute any computer logic using the
unique programming language Solidity (explicitly created for Ethereum). This feature paved the way
for the creation of ‘smart contracts. Blockchain is a peer-to-peer network; it’s a way in which multiple
computers talk to each other.

Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT)
2021istheyearofNFTs.ThespeedatwhichNFTbecamemainstreamisnothingshortofspectacular.
Selling physical artwork is more complex, time-consuming, less control & middleman issues. With
NFT, creators can bypass the traditional system and sell their art directly to users whenever they
want. NFT captured the interest of people who are not into crypto.
In the last nine months, $9.5 billion was spent on NFTs with more than 10 million sales. Premier
auction houses like Sotheby’s and Christie’s also started selling NFTs on their platform. Let’s look at
some of the highest value NFT sale. (Warning: the valuations can make you dizzy don’t try to make
any sense out of it)
Staying invested in crypto
Bitcoin market cap crossed $1 trillion mark (Gold’s is $11.3 trillion), and it would be imprudent to say
that blockchain/crypto is just another fad. The first decade of crypto (2009-2019) was about building
the foundation. The second decade (2020–2030) will be about mass adoption and user growth,
especially with finance undergoing a massive overhaul since the dawn of the internet. Compared
with the internet, it took 20+ years for building the foundation of the internet and another 10 for a
successful business to thrive on the internet. Being an optimist has its pay-offs.

Internet of
Behaviour
Can Reverse
Lifestyle Woes
Do you sometimes wonder how the advertisement of a
product of your liking comes into the display when you
open up an internet page? Or, how do you receive mails
on services you may like to buy, friend suggestions you
welcome in Facebook, or you get video suggestions to
watch on YouTube? All these responses are triggered
by nobody other than you & your actions, when you are
using a Smartphone or your Laptop or Tab connected to
the Internet. Every click of yours, every effort through
devices connected to the Internet (known as Internet of
Things or IoT) leaves a digital footprint on the Internet.
The digital data, which is enormous in size, is then
analyzed & co-related to define your behaviour on the
Internet.
We are all naked before the Internet- sometimes
knowingly, at times unknowingly. But whatever is the
case, Internet as a Big Brother is always watching us! Our
true self gets reflected through our behaviours on the
Internet, which we lie otherwise in real life. A drug addict
may get unnoticed in public life but may get exposed
through his internet searches on types & availability of
drugs etc.

We can refer
to it as IoB
(Internet of
Behaviours).
IoB combines

Technology has changed our behaviour & lifestyle. The debate has been on- whether this change is
good or bad, and I see it brings more good than bad. On the positive side, our lifestyle is changing with
the change of technology & industrial revolution. The lifestyle diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension,
and Obesity were lesser-known decades back. Now every second person may be experiencing some
or other lifestyle issues. Who would have thought technology could reverse lifestyle diseases by
complementing the time-tested medical science!
Now, you will hear more on reversing the health issues, rather than just managing them. Diabetes
reversal is a great example, which is in practice today. A Digital Twin (of our own body) can be created,
by capturing body parameters like Sugar level, BP, Sleep Patterns, Steps we take, BMI, daily Diet etc.
These measurement data can be transmitted, stored & analysed through AI (Artificial Intelligence)
driven ML (Machine Learning) models. Insights driven from these analytics can prescribe the changes
that need to be adopted to reverse the health condition. Diabetes & Obesity can easily be reversed &
you can still lead a healthy lifestyle without any medication. Doesn’t it sound WOW!
The good side of technology is not free from challenges & threats. Personal data privacy is a big
concern in the connected world. It can easily be manipulated & used without your consent. This will
always remain an issue in the absence of a robust data security system.

Edge Computing
Digitizing Last Mile Business
When digital technologies are transcending borders, and the focus is sharpening on data
monetization, we wonder what the future of computing would look like. The narrative is
increasingly woven around data warehouses and data lakes. But is there any other way how we
navigate this deluge of data? My bets are on Cloud Computing, the next big blip on the Emerging
Technology radar. And I have something or even substantial to tell you why we will be on the edge,
for processing data.
Pun intended, 'edge computing' has quickly graduated into a disruption, permeating multiple
domains like IT, healthcare, defence, and logistics. But what really is 'edge computing'? It's the
data processing taking place on the network edge that decreases latency and reduces stress on
cloud computing and data centre resources. It takes place on intelligent devices, right at the
location where sensors and other instruments are gathering and processing data. Now that we
know how it works, let us understand why it is critical for last-mile businesses.
As the name suggests, the last mile is the final leap in an end-to-end communications network,
where the data is bridged from the infrastructure to the device. Without it, devices or people
won't be able to access the internet or wouldn't be able to access it.
By Bibhuti Bhusan Routray
Emerging Technologies
18
The Fix
By deploying 'edge data centres' at the infrastructure
edge, i.e. locations on the operator side of the last
mile, tech companies can lay down a brand new
internet architecture. Thousands of 'edge data
centres', each with their own internet exchange
points, will make it possible for us to achieve
that magical convergence, forever ridding us of
inefficient process of legacy data routing.
Let us discuss some significant domains that can
begin embracing the new normal of 'edge'. In an
industry fraught with legacy tech and too radical
innovations, it's time for manufacturing to taste the
thunder of adaptive diagnostics. In an industrial
setup, it can genuinely improve the uptime of
machines and equipment, thereby reducing service
expenses.
Edge will also enable monitoring of public buildings
and facilities for better lighting, heating and other
facilities. In the healthcare sector, the impact of
edge is already being realized with smart wearables
that store individuals' vital' data and analyze them
for predicting health outcomes while ensuring data
security and individual privacy.
The Edgy Stuff
As per a Gartner Report, less than 10% of enterprise
data was created and processed on the edge in
2018, a number that has been predicted to skyrocket
to 75% by 2025. No surprises there! Living on the
'edge' (of data) will be fun. Working, even more.
Emerging Technologies 19
Brands or users,
it’s fun to immerse in
the Metaverse
The idea of creating a universe around
a brand’s offerings was popularized
by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The focus was on creating a singular
brand identity of movies based on
the superhero characters of the
marvel comics & sticking to making
movies that are generally based on
easy to follow storylines, beautifully
choreographed slick action sequences
interspersed with cheeky humor. All
MCU movies on the big screen follow
this typical branding message.
By Prem Sarit Acharya
Emerging Technologies
20
But this is not the first instance of a Metaverse creation by brands.
It’s been quite some time that a lot of experimentation in product
showcasing through Augmented Reality-Virtual Reality (AR&VR) has
been happening. Brands have been trying to associate the same with
the creation of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) & gamification too. For
example Indian blockchain platform Polygon created an NFT platform
for cricket & to begin with for Dinesh Karthik’s six off the last ball
against Bangladesh in the Nidahas trophy.
For ad marketers, this calls for new challenges in promoting AR-VR
drivensearchesandcategorizationsbyusers.Thenexttaskwouldbeto
capture user behaviour insights effectively while potential customers
browse through respective SKUs and choose a final product. On the
operational side, allocating budgets & carving a percentage spend on
such advertising within digital marketing budgets would have to be
justified based on how usage matures over time.
The recent announcement by Facebook will only further enhance R&D
inthedomainandboostupdigitaladvertising.Justimagine,wouldyou
not find it much more convincing to have a personalized experience of
exploring options for planning your next vacation and then finalizing
on a destination rather than going through several banner ads, links
and relevant postings? I definitely feel so because an AR-VR driven
experience that maximizes and places the onus on human senses for
decision making is something worth the excitement and adoption
Emerging Technologies 21
Hyperautomation
A Disruption opening up
First coined by Gartner in 2020, Hyperautomation is considered as the next avatar of digital
transformation. An emerging technology trend, hyperautomation is the next giant leap in
automation. It’s different from the vanilla task automation or RPA automation happening inside
computers. Hyperautomation is the amalgamation of cutting-edge technologies like Robotic
Process Automation (RPA), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and
low code application development platforms to increasingly automate processes and augment
humans. To put it simply, hyperautomation means robots enriched with AI & ML and taking over
an increasing number of human functions.
Billed as the ‘automation of automation, hyperautomation is driven by the premise that whatever
can be automated will be automated. It can help organizations achieve the holy grail of ‘doing more
with less’. However, building a successful hyperautomation ecosystem is much more complex than
automating a single process or workflow. It requires long-term planning, multi-system integration,
careful coordination across silos, and so much more. As they say, ‘Sweat more in peace if you wish to
bleed less in war’.
By Jayajit Dash
Emerging Technologies
22
The potential for hyperautomation shows up in its booming market potential. One industry estimate
has pegged the market for this pervasive technology at $600 billion by the end of 2022.
Owing to its multitude of benefits, hyperautomation is evolving as an unavoidable market state. It
creates an intelligent digital workforce that can operate with structured and unstructured data,
analyze data, make decisions, discover processes, and do them all at astonishing speed. With
hyperautomation tools, organizations can automate risk factors and compliance with rules. It also
leads to enhanced customer experience with NLP capable of analyzing call centre interactions and
gauging customer sentiment. By eliminating inefficiencies and lowering lead times, hyperautomation
can boost RoIs for companies. Applications of hyperautomation are widening- from underwriting and
customer service in insurance to seamlessly accessing customer data for improving KYC analysis for
banks and relieving healthcare workers from iterative digital tasks. Experts believe hyperautomation

Digital Twin-
a Virtual Extension
Stitching physical with digital
By Tapaswini Swain

Any technology which humans have
invented is meant for his convenience
and is considered as his own extension.
This is what the Media Philosopher,
Marshall McLuhan in his book ‘Medium
is the Message’, mentioned - from
the wheel to the telephone, all are
extensions of our bodies to create a
sense of comfort.
The technology Digital Twin is one such
virtual extension of oneself, a product
or process. Isn’t it fascinating to think
of a virtual twin of yourself to explore
the new possibilities it has to offer?
When we think of the word twin, it
simply means doppelganger. We have
seen how the body double of the actor
in movies does the dangerous fight
stunts or acrobats.
Think digitally! There are many such examples of how this has been implemented by many
industries.Adigitaltwinofapatientororganscanalsofacilitatesurgeonsandhealthprofessionals
to practice procedures in a simulated environment rather than on an actual patient. A simulation
can help the driver and the car team know what adjustments can improve performance in a sport
where every second counts. Yes, you have guessed it right! Digital twin technology has even been
deployed to refine Formula 1 car racing.
Imagine all the variables that go into the management of a city. Digital twin technology helps city
planners understand and improve the efficiency of energy consumption and many applications
that can improve life for its citizens. Singapore is one such city!
The global digital twin market size was valued at USD 3.1 billion in 2020 and is projected to reach
USD 48.2 billion by 2026. It is expected to grow at a CAGR of 58% during the forecast period
(Gartner). There is no limit to how digital twins’ technology can positively impact our world from
healthcare to construction, from automobiles to smart cities. Where else do you think a virtual
replication of a physical object would come in handy?
With emerging
technologies like
Artificial Intelligence
(AI) and Machine
Learning (ML), not just
your physical body
but your real-time
behaviours, activities
and all other information
or data captured can
help to create your

  • 4. There’s a growing slice of Emerging Tech in the chunk of this earth we live in. We have Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our cars, our mobile phones - it has crept into our social networks and our workplaces too. When I dive into the pool of possibilities, I can see AI brewing whiskey, writing ads, editing docs, or driving autonomous cars. Blockchain technology is opening up a new world where we trade in crypto and keep our data and transactions safe and tamper-proof. ‘No Time to Die’, the 25th James Bond movie going ahead with crypto backing, is a pointer to the winds of change EmTech is sweeping around us. The strengths of the disruptive ABCD (Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cloud Computing & Data Analytics) quartet of EmTech are known. But as we build a ‘Digital First’ world, a few super niche technologies are making a splash. You all know of Facebook rebranding itself as Meta. The social media giant has invested heavily into Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) to create a Metaverse or an immersive digital world. Metaverse is the next stage of internet evolution. In this virtual environment, we can connect by putting on VR headsets and AR glasses. With technology, it’s possible to collaborate, attend meetings, play, work, sit in an amphitheatre, try clothes, all in a virtual world. Niche technologies like AR/VR are resetting the future of work and helping us stay connected. We are looking at 75 billion connected devices by 2025, and I’m counting on EmTech to weld people on these devices, digitally. My vision of Emerging Tech is the one that stitches the real and virtual worlds- where social robots work in harmony with us and automation creates more jobs than it could steal. EmTech that delights by sucking hassles out of our mundane lives. What if you have AI assistants and bots for dinner reservations, home renovations, shopping and comparing products on costs and quality? My bets are also on EmTech to save lives- robots doing surgeries with clinical accuracy and immersive technologies helping us grow human organs in labs. At CSM Technologies, we have grown with EmTech and used it to better the lives of countless people. Let’s stay invested in this EmTech dream. and harvest more possibilities. Emerging Tech for a ‘connected us’ From The CEO’s DESK Emerging Technologies 4
  • 5. Priyadarshi Nanu Pany President & CEO Emerging Technologies 5
  • 6. By Pradyut Mohan Dash Feel the pulse of Emerging Tech… The 20th century is witness to a tidal wave of technology-led disruptions. Life today has taken such a transformative turn from what it was in the 19oos. Mobile telecommunications and the internet set the first wave of disruption, drastically changing how we talk, shop, learn and travel. Just look at the pace at which technology is growing- what took a decade or more in R&D for a Next-Gen tech is now possible in a few years or even months. The computing and processing capacity of computers hits double figures every 18 months, and every second, 127 new devices are connected to the internet. In Q1 of 2022, 4.66 billion people will be using the internet. Emerging Technologies 6
  • 7. Today, Emerging Technologies is not only a buzzword; it has crept into our day-to-day lives without many of us knowing about its quiet yet pervasive presence. If you look around you, youcanfeelthewideningusecasesofEmergingTechnologies. From the smart bulb that illumines your home to the Smart Buildings in your Smart City, there's a touch of Emerging Technology. By using sensors, smart thermostats can now monitor indoor and outdoor air temperature, humidity, and people's presence in a room. Smart cars with 360-degree sensors are not new to us.Still,doyouknowthereareabout170electricplaneprojects in development, mainly for private, corporate and commuter travel? Airbus says it could have 100-passenger electric planes ready for take-off in 2030. Companies are looking to leverage emerging technologies for three key reasons: building trust, driving growth, and shaping change. NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), sovereign cloud, data fabrics, generative AI, and composable networks define the roadmap of a change. Yes, this innovation can cut the wrong way too. Cybersecurity is a raging concern. Fifty-six records get compromised every second. There are 6 billion stolen records in the US, and in January last year, about 1.76 billion user records got leaked. Technology is that double-edged sword; we must not forget that malafide people can have a grip over it. Yet, technology is the staple of our existence. By adopting technologies as they evolve and enabling ample safeguards, we can secure our future growth. EDITORIAL Emerging Technologies 7

  • 12. Artificial Intelligence Decoding the future of possibilities By Rasmikant Das The term Artificial intelligence (AI) was first coined in 1956 by John McCarty. He defined AI as the Science and engineering of making intelligent machines. In a broad sense, AI is a technique of getting machines to behave like a human. AI has been used to create machines, robots that are being used in healthcare, robotics, marketing, business, analytics, government, and many more. In reality, AI is being used in our day-to-day work nowadays. Also, Alexa decoding your commands and acting in sync with them.Startingfromfaceverification on an iPhone, Autopilot feature in Tesla, finding an optimized path through Google map- these are not just remarkable use cases but a testimony to the strength of AI. Emerging Technologies 12
  • 13. Data shows that the use of AI in many business sectors has zoomed by 270 per cent over the last four years. The momentum behind this AI transformation is the capturingmassiveamountsofdatapointseveryday. And the data scientist uses all that data to train machines and learn and predict what we want. We will see more interesting AI use cases in the near future. For instance, in Netflix, we could sprawl on the sofa and order up a custom movie, featuring virtual actors of our choice. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) will reduce the time to complete repetitive tasks and make the task more effective. Chatbots will help to get a clear view of the customer’s mind and take real-time decisions. There will be lots of autopilot trucks and vehicles moving around. Advances in AI will reach the super intelligence stage in the next few years. Apart from lots of opportunities, there are serious concerns as well. AI comes with its own ethical and security issues, and it causes privacy concerns to businesses. Noted techpreneur and Tesla founder Elon Musk stated that AI is the real risk to the existence of human civilization. Whether AI is a threat or a goldmine of opportunities- just keep an eye to know how disruption pans out in the near future. Do you know how Google is providing accurate search results? Have you thought how Facebook is providing content based on our interest? And Linked-in providing suggestions for connecting with others, or reading helpful stuff in their feed? • 14. Blockchain How it is evolving beyond digital currency The rate at which innovation is brewing in the blockchain space is astonishing. Today, blockchain is permeating into all industries- digital or non-digital. Before 2009, the term ‘blockchain’ didn’t even appear in the mainstream media, but now you see advertisements of crypto exchanges on television while watching the most coveted IPL cricket matches. Buses in global cities like London, Seoul, New York etc. are wrapped with crypto advertisements, and YouTube is replete with videos about crypto. The inflection point for relentless innovation It’s Ethereum that opened the gates of innovation in blockchain. It can do much more than maintain a ledger of token ownership, transfer & verification. It can execute any computer logic using the unique programming language Solidity (explicitly created for Ethereum). This feature paved the way for the creation of ‘smart contracts. Blockchain is a peer-to-peer network; it’s a way in which multiple computers talk to each other. By Animesh Patnaik Emerging Technologies 14

Selling physical artwork is more complex, time-consuming, less control & middleman issues. With NFT, creators can bypass the traditional system and sell their art directly to users whenever they want. NFT captured the interest of people who are not into crypto. In the last nine months, $9.5 billion was spent on NFTs with more than 10 million sales. Premier auction houses like Sotheby’s and Christie’s also started selling NFTs on their platform. Let’s look at some of the highest value NFT sale. (Warning: the valuations can make you dizzy don’t try to make any sense out of it) Staying invested in crypto Bitcoin market cap crossed $1 trillion mark (Gold’s is $11.3 trillion), and it would be imprudent to say that blockchain/crypto is just another fad. The first decade of crypto (2009-2019) was about building the foundation. The second decade (2020–2030) will be about mass adoption and user growth, especially with finance undergoing a massive overhaul since the dawn of the internet. Compared with the internet, it took 20+ years for building the foundation of the internet and another 10 for a successful business to thrive on the internet. Being an optimist has its pay-offs. • 16. Internet of Behaviour Can Reverse Lifestyle Woes Do you sometimes wonder how the advertisement of a product of your liking comes into the display when you open up an internet page? Or, how do you receive mails on services you may like to buy, friend suggestions you welcome in Facebook, or you get video suggestions to watch on YouTube? All these responses are triggered by nobody other than you & your actions, when you are using a Smartphone or your Laptop or Tab connected to the Internet. Every click of yours, every effort through devices connected to the Internet (known as Internet of Things or IoT) leaves a digital footprint on the Internet. The digital data, which is enormous in size, is then analyzed & co-related to define your behaviour on the Internet. We are all naked before the Internet- sometimes knowingly, at times unknowingly. But whatever is the case, Internet as a Big Brother is always watching us! Our true self gets reflected through our behaviours on the Internet, which we lie otherwise in real life. A drug addict may get unnoticed in public life but may get exposed through his internet searches on types & availability of drugs etc. By Tusarkanta Swain* We can refer to it as IoB (Internet of Behaviours). IoB combines Technology, Data Analytics & Behavioural science. Emerging Technologies 16
  • 17. Technology has changed our behaviour & lifestyle. The debate has been on- whether this change is good or bad, and I see it brings more good than bad. On the positive side, our lifestyle is changing with the change of technology & industrial revolution. The lifestyle diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, and Obesity were lesser-known decades back. Now every second person may be experiencing some or other lifestyle issues. Who would have thought technology could reverse lifestyle diseases by complementing the time-tested medical science! Now, you will hear more on reversing the health issues, rather than just managing them. Diabetes reversal is a great example, which is in practice today. A Digital Twin (of our own body) can be created, by capturing body parameters like Sugar level, BP, Sleep Patterns, Steps we take, BMI, daily Diet etc. These measurement data can be transmitted, stored & analysed through AI (Artificial Intelligence) driven ML (Machine Learning) models. Insights driven from these analytics can prescribe the changes that need to be adopted to reverse the health condition. Diabetes & Obesity can easily be reversed & you can still lead a healthy lifestyle without any medication. Doesn’t it sound WOW! The good side of technology is not free from challenges & threats. Personal data privacy is a big concern in the connected world. It can easily be manipulated & used without your consent. This will always remain an issue in the absence of a robust data security system. * Tusarkanta Swain is a Telecom professional with more than 3 decades of experience. • 18. Edge Computing Digitizing Last Mile Business When digital technologies are transcending borders, and the focus is sharpening on data monetization, we wonder what the future of computing would look like. The narrative is increasingly woven around data warehouses and data lakes. But is there any other way how we navigate this deluge of data? My bets are on Cloud Computing, the next big blip on the Emerging Technology radar. And I have something or even substantial to tell you why we will be on the edge, for processing data. Pun intended, 'edge computing' has quickly graduated into a disruption, permeating multiple domains like IT, healthcare, defence, and logistics. But what really is 'edge computing'? It's the data processing taking place on the network edge that decreases latency and reduces stress on cloud computing and data centre resources. It takes place on intelligent devices, right at the location where sensors and other instruments are gathering and processing data. Now that we know how it works, let us understand why it is critical for last-mile businesses. As the name suggests, the last mile is the final leap in an end-to-end communications network, where the data is bridged from the infrastructure to the device. Without it, devices or people won't be able to access the internet or wouldn't be able to access it. By Bibhuti Bhusan Routray Emerging Technologies 18
  • 19. The Fix By deploying 'edge data centres' at the infrastructure edge, i.e. locations on the operator side of the last mile, tech companies can lay down a brand new internet architecture. Thousands of 'edge data centres', each with their own internet exchange points, will make it possible for us to achieve that magical convergence, forever ridding us of inefficient process of legacy data routing. Let us discuss some significant domains that can begin embracing the new normal of 'edge'. In an industry fraught with legacy tech and too radical innovations, it's time for manufacturing to taste the thunder of adaptive diagnostics. In an industrial setup, it can genuinely improve the uptime of machines and equipment, thereby reducing service expenses. Edge will also enable monitoring of public buildings and facilities for better lighting, heating and other facilities. In the healthcare sector, the impact of edge is already being realized with smart wearables that store individuals' vital' data and analyze them for predicting health outcomes while ensuring data security and individual privacy. The Edgy Stuff As per a Gartner Report, less than 10% of enterprise data was created and processed on the edge in 2018, a number that has been predicted to skyrocket to 75% by 2025. No surprises there! Living on the 'edge' (of data) will be fun. Working, even more. Emerging Technologies 19
  • 20. Brands or users, it’s fun to immerse in the Metaverse The idea of creating a universe around a brand’s offerings was popularized by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The focus was on creating a singular brand identity of movies based on the superhero characters of the marvel comics & sticking to making movies that are generally based on easy to follow storylines, beautifully choreographed slick action sequences interspersed with cheeky humor. All MCU movies on the big screen follow this typical branding message. By Prem Sarit Acharya Emerging Technologies 20
  • 21. But this is not the first instance of a Metaverse creation by brands. It’s been quite some time that a lot of experimentation in product showcasing through Augmented Reality-Virtual Reality (AR&VR) has been happening. Brands have been trying to associate the same with the creation of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) & gamification too. For example Indian blockchain platform Polygon created an NFT platform for cricket & to begin with for Dinesh Karthik’s six off the last ball against Bangladesh in the Nidahas trophy. For ad marketers, this calls for new challenges in promoting AR-VR drivensearchesandcategorizationsbyusers.Thenexttaskwouldbeto capture user behaviour insights effectively while potential customers browse through respective SKUs and choose a final product. On the operational side, allocating budgets & carving a percentage spend on such advertising within digital marketing budgets would have to be justified based on how usage matures over time. The recent announcement by Facebook will only further enhance R&D inthedomainandboostupdigitaladvertising.Justimagine, wouldyou not find it much more convincing to have a personalized experience of exploring options for planning your next vacation and then finalizing on a destination rather than going through several banner ads, links and relevant postings? I definitely feel so because an AR-VR driven experience that maximizes and places the onus on human senses for decision making is something worth the excitement and adoption Emerging Technologies 21
  • 22. Hyperautomation A Disruption opening up First coined by Gartner in 2020, Hyperautomation is considered as the next avatar of digital transformation. An emerging technology trend, hyperautomation is the next giant leap in automation. It’s different from the vanilla task automation or RPA automation happening inside computers. Hyperautomation is the amalgamation of cutting-edge technologies like Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and low code application development platforms to increasingly automate processes and augment humans. To put it simply, hyperautomation means robots enriched with AI & ML and taking over an increasing number of human functions. Billed as the ‘automation of automation, hyperautomation is driven by the premise that whatever can be automated will be automated. It can help organizations achieve the holy grail of ‘doing more with less’. However, building a successful hyperautomation ecosystem is much more complex than automating a single process or workflow. It requires long-term planning, multi-system integration, careful coordination across silos, and so much more. As they say, ‘Sweat more in peace if you wish to bleed less in war’. By Jayajit Dash Emerging Technologies 22
  • 23. The potential for hyperautomation shows up in its booming market potential. One industry estimate has pegged the market for this pervasive technology at $600 billion by the end of 2022. Owing to its multitude of benefits, hyperautomation is evolving as an unavoidable market state. It creates an intelligent digital workforce that can operate with structured and unstructured data, analyze data, make decisions, discover processes, and do them all at astonishing speed. With hyperautomation tools, organizations can automate risk factors and compliance with rules. It also leads to enhanced customer experience with NLP capable of analyzing call centre interactions and gauging customer sentiment. By eliminating inefficiencies and lowering lead times, hyperautomation can boost RoIs for companies. Applications of hyperautomation are widening- from underwriting and customer service in insurance to seamlessly accessing customer data for improving KYC analysis for banks and relieving healthcare workers from iterative digital tasks. Experts believe hyperautomation willmitigate70-75percentofthemanager’sworkloadby2024.Thisnextwaveofdisruptiveautomation is buffeting the shores of transformation. • 24. Digital Twin- a Virtual Extension Stitching physical with digital By Tapaswini Swain Emerging Technologies 24
  • 25. Any technology which humans have invented is meant for his convenience and is considered as his own extension. This is what the Media Philosopher, Marshall McLuhan in his book ‘Medium is the Message’, mentioned - from the wheel to the telephone, all are extensions of our bodies to create a sense of comfort. The technology Digital Twin is one such virtual extension of oneself, a product or process. Isn’t it fascinating to think of a virtual twin of yourself to explore the new possibilities it has to offer? When we think of the word twin, it simply means doppelganger. We have seen how the body double of the actor in movies does the dangerous fight stunts or acrobats. Think digitally! There are many such examples of how this has been implemented by many industries.Adigitaltwinofapatientororganscanalsofacilitatesurgeonsandhealthprofessionals to practice procedures in a simulated environment rather than on an actual patient. A simulation can help the driver and the car team know what adjustments can improve performance in a sport where every second counts. Yes, you have guessed it right! Digital twin technology has even been deployed to refine Formula 1 car racing. Imagine all the variables that go into the management of a city. Digital twin technology helps city planners understand and improve the efficiency of energy consumption and many applications that can improve life for its citizens. Singapore is one such city! The global digital twin market size was valued at USD 3.1 billion in 2020 and is projected to reach USD 48.2 billion by 2026. It is expected to grow at a CAGR of 58% during the forecast period (Gartner). There is no limit to how digital twins’ technology can positively impact our world from healthcare to construction, from automobiles to smart cities. Where else do you think a virtual replication of a physical object would come in handy? With emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), not just your physical body but your real-time behaviours, activities and all other information or data captured can help to create your complete Digital Twin.
