2. The Corporate Learning Environment
I would like to study and learn
more about blended learning
specifically in a Corporate
learning environment.
• Learner Centered
• Knowledge Centered
• Assessment Centered
• Community Centered
4. Goals and Objectives
There are similarities between what my company,
United Rentals, offers to its employees and what
Caterpillar offers to its employees. Caterpillar is
known in my industry for their learning
environment and although my company has many
of the same components, Caterpillar does it in a
much more streamlined and renowned way. I
would like to learn techniques and best practices
for improving blended learning in my own
corporate learning environment.
5. Metrics and Analytics
• YTD Training
hours per
employee
• Training hours by job title
• Training hours by topic/category
• Compliance reporting
• Completion percentage

Learning with Emerging Technologies: Theory and Practice (LETTP)
Dr. Jase Teoh
I am interesting in learning more about a corporate learning environment. Based on How People Learn, “there needs to be alignment among the four perspectives of learning environments (National Research Council, page 154). This includes a balance of the four perspectives: learner centered, knowledge centered, assessment centered, and community centered.
I would like to compare the corporate learning environment at my workplace (United Rentals) and the corporate learning environment at Caterpillar.
Caterpillar University website offers training to customers and employees. (https://caterpillaruniversity.com/freedemo/)
The list above illustration some of the offerings within my learning environment.
Figure 1.0 represents 2014 training hours completed per month by employees at United Rentals. By incorporating emerging technologies, this number could ne increased significantly.
Figure 2.0 represents the major training categories and the breakdown of training provided to employees in 2014.
The learners/audience at my company varies from hourly employees to executive vice presidents, totally over 13,000 in total. Training is offered in various languages and delivery methods to accommodate the needs of the learners.
Based on the needs and expectations of managers and employees within my workplace, I am interested in blended leaning environments and ways to make ours more effective. We currently offer blended learning solutions to employees offering online asynchronous training, online synchronous training as well as instructor led classroom based training. We strive to build a world class learning environment for our employees. Looking for ways to incorporate other social networking technologies, productivity tools, and Web 2.0 technologies.

Emerging technologies are defined as “tools, concepts, innovations, and advancements utilized in diverse educational settings to serve varied education-related purposes” (Veletsianos, 2010, p.3).
