Production and Market of Sucralose in China
CCM International is going to release its newest Survey Report on Sucralose, Production and
Market of Sucralose in China in March, 2011. This report will focus on the production,
technologies, application and consumption of Sucralose based on analysis of overview of HIS
production and consumption in China. In addition, analysis on the latest consumption dynamics
and market trend of Sucralose industry will also be included in this report.
After Tate & Lyle lost its sucralose patent case in 2008, sucralose industry in China began to
develop gradually. Some big producers extended production capacity; others stepped into the
industry for the sake of its promising market. According to the new report, China's sucralose
industry has witnessed fast development in the past few years and China has became one of the
most important sucralose producers in the world.
The statistics in this report shows that thanks to the recovery of overseas demand for sucralose
in 2010, the capacity of sucralose rocketed to 600 tonnes. With the development of new
technologies to produce sucralose, there are 19 sucralose manufacturers in China at present.
The top 3 domestic producers of sucralose namely JK Sucralose Inc., Techno (Fujian)
Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and Changzhou Niutang Chemical Plant Co., Ltd., produced 600t/a, 40%
of the total capacity, which broke through the monopolization of Tate & Lyle.
However, China’s consumption of sucralose is relatively small, with the majority of the products
being exported for overseas demand. The export volume in 2010 reached to 406 tonnes,
accounting for 65.48 % of the total output. In China, food and beverage are the major end users
of sucralose in the country. In food industry, seasoning is its largest consumption field, while in
beverage industry, carbonated beverage, juice beverage and milk beverage are the top three
consumption fields. Moreover, sucralose can be also used in pharmaceutical and other
industries.
When it comes to the production , this report reveals that there are generally two ways to
synthesize sucralose, namely chemical pathway and biological pathway. Chemical pathway is
mature and popular in China, while biological pathway is hard to be applied industrially due to
high production cost and complicated refinery process.
Senior research from CCM, Zhangchao points that with the increase of domestic and overseas
demand and the recovery of global economy, the production of sucralose in China is set to be
enhanced. What’s more, the increasing public awareness on health and the demand for healthy
food also drive the further development of sucralose in China.
