Productivity tip #4: Manage Your Commitments
• Best Time Managers are accurate in estimating
how much time a task, meeting, appointment
will take
• Poor Time Managers nearly always
underestimate how long a task will take
It’s not the hours that you put into
your work that’s important. It’s the
work that you put into your hours.

CONTIN: Please ask questions at any time.Q: Are you OK for 30 minutes?Q: just before we kick off, what in particular would you like to get out of this session? Start with exec team /senior managersHow can WS support business skills?
Before third dot point : TELL the story, don’t show on slide - One of the major users of Priority’s time management system was Microsoft. When they developed Outlook, they stopped the Priority training (at that time based on a paper organiser) and said that Outlook would resolve all their time management issues. Several years later, they said to Priority that Outlook was not giving them the productivity they had hoped, and asked Priority to develop the same course as before, but using Outlook rather than the paper organiser. This transformed the Company, and the demand for the course was huge. Before 4th dot point : The same course has been developed into most other software solutions, such as Lotus Notes, Groupwise, iPhone, iPad, and Android.
Bare Slide : Not all that long ago, many organisations had libraries and mail rooms. But today every office worker has a library sitting on his desk. Maybe one on his phone too.Would anyone like to guess how many business emails are sent each day? (you can play this through a few guesses, then go to first three dot points (which come up together). And the other time wasters (Ask “How many meetings do you attend each week?”
A few words on each one (I’m sure you had this in mind anyway
I’ve added Meetings – this can be quite a good interactive one (all of the above can) – Who attends meetings here? (Usually a groan!) Do you have too few meetings? (another groan) Too Many?
This one really needs some time spent – I don’t think it would be a bad idea to print this on the back of the one-pager you’re putting on seats
Change photo if necessary(CONTIN: So that is the end of our slides Q: Do you have any questions?(Use some of these questions to get them talking...)Q: what are the possible opportunities for you to use this programme?(If spare time… toggle to PM WebSite) Here is the Priority Management website (Demo “Working Sm@rt Programs”..) Q: what could be a next action? - In-house pilot? Public workshop pilot? Meeting? Send proposals for In-house? For T3? Send slide show “Why Should I Work Sm@rt?” Might be useful to send to some of your colleagues?Q: can we contact you in ….Thank you for your time. I will now stop sharing my desktop … and shut down the WebEx Meeting… and ring off.Goodbye.Close with repeat of WS Title slide
