Using SQL Constraints to Implement Business Rules
Simple way to enforce standards for all access (RAAT/SAAT/SQL)
Domain constraint
• Restricts column value to a defined value set
• Applies to any add or update
Referential constraint
• Restricts child rows to map to an existing parent row
• Can be used to stop a parent row delete if a child row is present (ON
DELETE RESTRICT)
• Can be used to delete child rows when a parent is deleted (ON DELETE
CASCADE)

• The external procedure can make SQL requests
• A UDFT is used like a normal table in a query, but it is read-only
• Join/host/correlated variables, literals as parameters
• Join variable must reference previous table
