Reflection Of Mona Lisa Smile
1. Reflection Of Mona Lisa Smile
In the movie Mona Lisa Smile, the main character Katherine Watson is a new professor of art history at a university. All Katherine wanted in life was
to be able to teach and make a difference. She ends up at a school for women, which was very proper and the students only knew what they had been
taught. Quickly she learns that the students there do not know how to think for themselves. By throwing curveballs in their learning styles, she wants
to help them learn how to start using the information they learn, instead of just memorizing it. She realizes that these students need to learn to not just
receive and memorize information, but to understand and analyze the information. Katherine thought she prepared well for this first class, but she does
not know what is about to happen. During her first lesson, she began showing slides of the art, and to her surprise, one student shouts out the answer.
Then the next picture comes up, and the students appear to know all the answers. She asks if any of them had taken art history before, thinking that
they have since they know all the answers. It turns out none of the students have, but they all took it upon themselves to read the entire text before
class. This is where we start to see "The Banking Concept." Since it was on the syllabus to read, they went ahead and read the whole book and
everything else on the syllabus to know the information. They gave the teacher a run for her money and basically ended up teaching the whole class
themselves. They acted as though they did not need their teacher at all to learn, but their idea of learning had nothing to do with growing. They were
taking in all of this information and just memorizing it, but not actually trying to understand what the meaning behind the information was. During
another scene in the movie, Katherine decides to switch things up and teach these students how to learn and analyze what they have learned, so that
they aren't just filling their brains with information, but they are using and understanding that information. In The Banking Concept, you see how the
teachers are thinking for their students, the students only know as much as the teachers teach them. So in the movie Katherine decides to teach them to

2. Sonia Sotomayor Essay
A Judge for Justice
People have heard of the American Dream. The American Dream is your typical "rags to riches" story, where someone from an impoverished city
living under atrocious, or flagrant conditions makes their dreams come true and enhances their lives. Sonia Sotomayor is an example of this
American Dream. Mrs. Sotomayor is the first Hispanic and only the third woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court as an Associate Justice. Ms.
Sotomayor was born on 6/25/1954 in the Bronx, located in New York City. She was the eldest of two children. Her younger sibling, Juan, is now a

the vote being from 68 to 31. Ms. Sotomayor made history. In June 2010, the Bronxdale Houses were renamed and commemorated in her honor.
When Ms. Sotomayor is not on the bench, she is an advocate for children from troubled kids residing in impoverished neighborhoods. She is also a
part of the workshop called Development School for Youth, which teaches innerâ city students how to function in a work setting. These students
should not face the dire effects of being in a low â income neighborhood. The program helps encourage them to follow their dreams. Ms. Sotomayor
is a perfect role model for these children. Overall, Ms. Sotomayor is an inspiration for children of all ages to pursue their careers and to not be afraid.
No matter what your background is, you can do well. After all, there is a quote that says, "It doesn't matter where you come from, it's where you're

3. Essay on Socialization
Socialization Socialization is the process by which culture is learned; also called enculturation. During socialization individuals internalize a culture's
social controls, along with values and norms about right and wrong. Socialization is a complex process that involves many individuals, groups, and
social institutions. AGENTS OF SOCIALIZATION There are four main agents of socialization family, school, peer groups (friends and collogues),
and mass media. The family is the single most important agent of socialization because the family is the first and most continuous social world for
infants and children. The family provides the child's initial social identity in terms of race, religion, social class, and gender. In time,...show more

The peer group shares with the school the important function of allowing the child to be away from the family where the child learns different
models of behavior as well as well as new relationships and values they might not have learned in their family life. Peer groups also allow the
opportunity to discuss interests that adults may not share (clothes, music). The peer group also teaches children how to deal with conflicts. The
agents of socialization discussed above (family, school, and peer group) are all involved in interactive and personal contact. Mass media on the other
had are various impersonal modes of communication intended for large audiences (e.g., radio, television, motion pictures, newspapers). Mass media
can have an enormous effect on our attitudes and behavior. The media influence socialization by providing additional and alternative role models as
well as social norms and values. It appears that most influential mass medium today is television. A positive view of television is that it provides an
excellent medium of instruction and an entertaining way of expanding the horizons of children by exposing them to places and events they may not be
able to experience first hand. The negative view of television is that it makes children more passive and less likely to use their imagination; it stresses
the unrealistic nature of many

When Sania's mother, Nasima Mirza, took her to a coach, the coach refused to train her. The reason cited by the coach was that Sania was "too
small". As Sania has done throughout her career, she turned every naysayer to her supporter. Within a month's time Sania's coach was compelled to
call up her parents and tell them "he'd never seen a player that good at such a young age".
Since then Sania has never looked back. With every victory, with every match, Sania is making and breaking records. The taste of some extraordinary
success, however, came when Sania paired up with Martina Hingis.
Santina Vs Everyone
When Sania paired with Martina Hingis, many critics predicted that one and one will combine to form zilch. The reason behind such prediction was
that Sania's game was built on her ferocious groundstrokes, especially from the forehand wing while Martina was known for her delicate touches.
These two combined to prove the critics wrong as they complimented each other's games perfectly.
Martina had the following to say about her fellow partner and friend:
"Sania has a merciless forehand and her wellâplaced serve starts us perfectly in each point...where other people would break their bones, she calmly
produces winners with an incredible flick of the

Sub continental Literature Poetry Presentation Hard Copy
Mirza Ghalib's Prose
One of the most influential luminaries of the Subcontinent literature, Mirza Asad Ullah Khan, continues to win the hearts of the posterity with his
evergreen literary works. His is renowned for his poetic endeavors in Urdu and Persian language with thousands of high quality verses to his credit.
He bagged a major chunk of fame through his rich philosophical verses which often eclipse his status as a prolific proseâwriter. Many notable writers
proclaim that Ghalib could have garnered the same magnitude of fame only on the basis of his amazing prose. He gave a new and refreshing facet to

His letters are rife in delighting humor and sharp wit, elucidating and highlighting Ghalib's jolly, candid and loving nature. He even smiled at the
gloomiest moments because the severe jolts of life had made him learn to smile in order to strengthen himself in the face of even the most terrible
scenarios so as to mitigate the bitter and painful pangs of the agonizing life. For instance, when the 3rd wife of one of his friends died, Ghalib remarked:
"Allah Allah, there are some among us who have been freed from this prison three times and I have for the past 50 years this rope around my neck;
neither this rope breaks nor it takes my life."
Another such example of his lightâheartedness can be seen in one of his letters to SaifâulâHaq, in which Ghalib candidly and cleverly talks his friend
out of sending the predictable gift of mangoes, a fruit, of which he was awfully fond of, but was also flooded with, by his friends and companions.
"I cannot think of anything which I can ask you to send me from Surat. What is there to be had which cannot be had here. I like mangoes no doubt,
very much, not less than grapes, but how can they reach here safely from Surat and Bombay. The Malda mangoes are known here as Pewandi and
Vilayati. They are fine indeed and they would be finer still at Surat, but it seems you would be going out of the way to send them from there to Delhi.
The expense of sending mangoes worth a rupee would amount to about Rs.4 by the parcel post and even then perhaps

6. Essay on Sarafina
Sarafina
Sarafina! is the story of the struggle for freedom of nonâEuropean school children in Soweto, South Africa. The story takes place during the time of the
Apartheid just before Nelson Mandela was released in 1990 and the Apartheid ended. The Apartheid was a policy of strict racial segregation and
political and economic discrimination against nonâwhites in the Republic of South Africa (WWWebster Dictionary). Segregation and discrimination
against nonâwhites was imposed in housing, employment, education, and public services. It was enforced with a cruelly oppressive regime that used
intimidation, torture, and murder to maintain order. Sarafina! was thus an open window to what went on during the Apartheid tied into the...show more

It was heard in their heated discussions in the classroom and around school about ways that they can gain their freedom. The children's unity was also
seen when they decided to take on the South African government themselves by fighting back with the same tactics that the South African
used—violence. Collectivity is also seen at the end of the movie when the children performed the song and dance of Nelson Mandela's return
and him leading South Africa once again. Sarafina! also changed the traditional role of women. In the film, the young girl, Sarafina, was the main
character. She was outspoken, rebellious, and determined to stop the oppressive South African government at any cost. Sarafina was the one who
always came up with all the ideas and did all the planning. She was the one who took matters into her own hands even when no one stood behind her.
She was goalâoriented and the strong link of all the children of South Africa. There was the scene in which Sarafina anxiously requests to play
Nelson Mandela in the play. When one of her male classmates states that she is a girl and that girls cannot play Nelson Mandela, Sarafina quickly
proves him wrong. Then, low and behold, at the end of the movie, Sarafina played the part of Nelson Mandela. In Sarafina!, Mrs. Masambuca (played
by Whoopi Goldberg), is a role

7. Essay about An Analysis of Ozymandias
The poem "Ozymandias" is one of the best sonnets of Percy Bysshe Shelley. In this poem Shelley described a mighty king who was striving in his
whole life for his possessions and got involved in worldly assignments so much that he forgot his ultimate destiny. Beside this, Shelley reminds the
readers of their mortality through the realization that our earthly accomplishments, so important to us now, will one day be finished. By drawing these
vivid and ironic pictures in readers minds, with different symbols, Shelley was trying to illustrate that no one lives forever in the world, not even their
assets or belongings. Readers get a physical description of the statue of Ozymandias...show more content...
Shelley dwells little on the small details of Ozymandias' face, but by Ozymandias' frown, wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, delivered in
less than two lines, immediately carry to the reader a vision of a cold, callous, yet strong and determined leader who is commanding his people
building his great vast statue hoping his power would be immortal. These concrete items are vital to the description, but are not as strong as what
can not be seen. Shelley gives a nod to the talent of the sculptor, from whom Ozymandias received a mirror image of his personality, placed in stone
because of his thinking to survive forever as a mighty king. The passions for power and command are chiselled into a face, but line 8 describes things
that are not seen in the eye of the beholder. Shelley describes the hand of Ozymandias, which mocked, and his heart, which fed. This one line sums up
the metaphysical aspects of Ozymandias' character, both described and implied. Here Shelley is telling about the reality that one day the king must
leave this world. "Mocked" is particularly well worth noting, since it is one of two words which directly relate how Ozymandias, treated his subjects. A
king, high and mighty, transmuted into high and mighty stone, exuding airs

8. Essay about Sundiata
If you want a taste of West African History Sundiata will give you exactly what you want and more. Sundiata was an interesting piece of literature to
read. Unlike the previous two books we have read this semester I found this book much more simple. This book was much easier for me to
comprehend and actually get into. This book exposed me not only to the West African history, but also a new religion. The story of Sundiata depicts the
story of the foundation of the Mali Empire in West Africa. This story takes place during a transitional time period, when the trade network that linked
towns and villages across western Africa attracted north African merchants who brought increasing Muslim influence. The Mali Empire was one of the

He gives special attention to Lahilatoul Kalabi, the first black prince to make the Pilgrimage to Mecca. On his return trek, he was robbed by
brigands, and his entourage split. Allah saved his life and made him a king once he returned to Mali after seven years of wandering. They state,
"After seven years' absence Lahilatoul was able to return, by the grace of Allah the Almighty" (Sundiata, 2). Another important role in this epic
was the importance of long distance trade. After the exile of Sundiata it gives him a chance to learn about the trade routes and people of his region.
An example of this long distance trade was in the chapter of The Baobab Leaves. Sundiata's sister, Kolonkan, now of a marriageable age took on
the role in society as a woman. "She was at the market she noticed a woman who was offering for sale nofiola, and gnougou, condiments unknown to
the people of Mema" (Sundiata, 43). She recognized the baobob leaves and many other vegetables which her mother used to grow in her garden at
Niani. The merchant questions Kolonkan on how she knows about the baobab leaves, due to her offering at the market in Mema for days, but no one
wanting them. While over hearing the conversation a man draws near offering the princess a cola. "We are merchants and we going from town to
town"(Sundiata, 44). The details of trade in this chapter greatly illustrate the existence of trade in the West African
