• There are 12 new active mobile social users every day

Give it a thumbs up!

• Log into your personal Facebook
account
• From anywhere in Facebook you
can click on the little arrow symbol
in the top menu bar and choose
Create Page

• Choose a category that best
describes the type of page
you want to create
• It’ll most likely be local business
• When you click on a tile it flips
to give you a form to fill in
• When you’re ready, click Get

• Use something recognisable
like your logo
• Put in a link to your website,
business address, opening
hours, contact details, etc
• Start sharing!

• Choose some initial accounts to follow
• Write a bio
• Choose a profile picture
• Again, this will probably be your logo

  • 5. What is social media? • According to the Oxford English Dictionary: • Websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. • A way to communicate in real time • Create and share content
  • 6. Social statistics • There are 2.3 billion active social media users across the world • Internet users have an average of 5.54 social media accounts • Social media users have risen by 176 million in the last year • There are 12 new active mobile social users every day

Why social media is important for business • Even if you’re not on social media, your customers are • Be part of the conversation • Direct communication with customers • Customer service channel • Increase your reach • Drive traffic to your website • Attract potential customers • Keep existing customers engaged to keep them coming back for more • Good for search engine optimisation (SEO)

  • 10. How many?! • News flash! - You don’t have to be on every social network • Consider • Where your target audience hangs out • Tip – Ask them! • Your resources • Better to concentrate on one or two platforms and do them well than spread yourself out too thin and perform poorly on each

Facebook • 31 million monthly active users in the UK • 60% of the British population has a Facebook account • The most popular age group is 25-34 but wide range of age groups using Facebook from teenagers to grandparents • 56% female • Works well for wide range of content including videos, articles and images.
  • 12. Twitter • Over 15 million monthly active users in the UK • Over 65% under the age of 34 • 29% check their Twitter feed multiple times during the day • 51% female • Short updates of up to 140 characters each • Tweets with images perform very well
  • 13. Instagram • 14 million monthly active users in the UK (July 2015) • 90% of UK users aged under 35 • 39% are aged 16-24 • 64% female • Ideal for business with physical products that can be photographed • Also can be used to show behind-the-scenes of any other business
  • 14. Pinterest Google+ • 2 million UK users • Mostly female • 88% of Pinterest users have purchased a product they pinned • Reported 440 million monthly active users globally • Although suggested in Business Insider that actually only 4-6 million people actively using G+ • 73% male users
  • 15. Snapchat LinkedIn • 200 million active users across the world • No UK specific data as yet • Most popular with 13 – 20 year olds • 70% of users are female • 15 million active users in the UK (2014) • 75% over the age of 35 • 79% male • B2B marketing

  • 17. Setting up a Facebook page • Log into your personal Facebook account • From anywhere in Facebook you can click on the little arrow symbol in the top menu bar and choose Create Page
  • 18. Setting up a Facebook page (cont) • Choose a category that best describes the type of page you want to create • It’ll most likely be local business • When you click on a tile it flips to give you a form to fill in • When you’re ready, click Get Started
  • 19. Setting up a Facebook page (cont) • Write a description for your page • Create a profile picture • Use something recognisable like your logo • Put in a link to your website, business address, opening hours, contact details, etc • Start sharing!
