I HOLD TRUE TO THIS BELIEF:
“There is a transition occurring from the old paradigm in which leadership resided in a person or role, to a new
one in which leadership is a collective process that is spread throughout networks of people.”

Leadership
Self-Assessment
JULY 2019 4
www.superwoman.gold
Regardless of size or status as being for profit or nonprofit, every business has leadership;
however, not every person tasked with responsibilities to lead are effective leaders.
Developed by Don Clifton (father of Strengths Psychology) to help raise self-awareness through
the assessment of personal talents; Clifton StrengthsFinder self-assessment opens the door to
what makes you tick giving you a better chance of success in life.
Using this self-assessment, five strengths were revealed;
1. Individualization
2. Input
3. Learner
4. Achiever
5. Discipline

This theme supports why I am so intrigued by the uniqueness each person possesses; amazingly, this describes me
perfectly. I instinctively observe each person’s style, motivation, how they think and build relationships; because I am
such a keen observer of other people’s strengths, I tend to draw out the best in each person. In business, individualization
helps me to build productive teams in the startup companies and small business I help structure and develop.
Individualization
People exceptionally talented in the individualization theme are intrigued with the unique qualities of each person; in
other words, they have a gift for figuring out how different people can work together productively.
1. Juggle several projects simultaneously.
2. Generally, I feel good about myself and life.
3. Set up opportunities for individuals to cooperate.
4. Ability to become well-acquainted with individuals.
5. Ability to sense the feelings and perspectives of others.
6. Frequently compliment others for sharing knowledge, skills or talents.
7. I like figuring out why someone behaves, feels or thinks differently than me.
8. Ability to stand in another person’s place and view what is going on from their perspective.
9. Pinpoint other traits, qualities, motivation, strengths, limitations, preferences or attitudes.
10. Easily identify what others are thinking and feeling; intuitively understand hopes, fears, joys
	 and sorrows.
Individualization Theme Stand Out Qualities
JULY 2019 6
www.superwoman.gold
People exceptionally talented in the input theme have a need to collect and archive information, ideas, artifacts or even
relationships.
Input
This theme supports the inquisitive side of me explaining my overall need to collect things (words, facts, books, quotes
and other tangible and non-tangible items). Whatever is collected is done because it interests me; in other words, my
mind finds many things interesting in this beautiful world and its infinite variety and complex and exciting things. For
instance, if I choose to read a great deal; it’s not necessarily to refine theories, but rather, to archive more information
for future use.

Learner
People exceptionally talented in the learner theme have a great desire to learn and strive to continuously improve; in
fact, the process of learning is more exciting than the outcome.
This theme perfectly supports my passion and deep love for learning, I will forever be drawn to and excited by the
overall process of learning. The steady and deliberate journey from ignorance to competence energizes me, the thrill
of discovering the first few facts and early efforts to recite or practice is exciting; more importantly, the growing
confidence of mastering a skill entices me. This excitement and enticement keeps me to engaged in adult learning
experiences; such as current efforts to pursue my MBA with a concentration in Entrepreneurship.
1. I consider what I have observed.
2. Often pose never-before-asked questions.
3. Drawn to the process of gaining knowledge and skills.
4. Eager to interact with others who value education as much as I do.
5. Thinking deeply about things is a necessity; not a luxury or option.
6. Strong concentration skills lead me to major and minor discoveries.
7. Analyze and investigate mistakes, personal or professional loss or failure,
8. Eager to acquire the necessary knowledge or skills to complete the task or challenge.
9. I long to build on what I already know and yearn to improve on what I already can do.
10. Devote more time than most people exploring topics, problems or
opportunities that pique, arouse or excite my interest.
Learner Theme Stand Out Qualities
JULY 2019 8
www.superwoman.gold
People exceptionally talented in the achiever theme work hard, possess a great deal of stamina and take immense
satisfaction in being busy and productive.
ACHIEVER
This theme supports my incredible drive and constant need for achievement; regardless of being a work day, holiday,
vacation or weekend. Every day starts at zero and by the end of the day, something tangible must be achieved for me
to feel good about myself. This truly explains the internal fire burning inside me pushing me to do and achieve more;
doubly importantly, being an achiever gives me the energy needed to work long hours without burning out. It’s the
faithful jolt I can count on to get each new task or challenge started; the motivating factor that keeps me moving and
the power supply that causes me to set the pace for the day.
1. Launching new ventures thrills you.
2. Tackling impossible goals energizes you.
3. Instinctively, a real stickler for completing work on schedule.
4. You know you have the talent to deal with hazards as you encounter them.
5. Stepping out of your comfort zone into unfamiliar territory stimulates you.
6. Dislike turning in assignments late or arriving at meetings after they have started.
7. Trust myself - driven by my talents and not afraid to dive into challenging situations.
8. Put forth a lot of effort to design step-by-step procedures for handling repetitious tasks.
9. Typically expend a lot of mental energy to produce thoroughly documented facts or data.
10. A constant need to increase productivity, improve the quality of my outcomes, enhance
efficiency, and better manage my priorities.
Achiever Theme Stand Out Qualities
JULY 2019 9
www.superwoman.gold
People exceptionally talented in the discipline theme enjoy routine and structure; for the most part, their world is
best described by the order they create.
Discipline
This theme supports my overall need for predictability; no doubt, my world must be instinctively ordered, planned
and structured with routines, timelines and deadlines. When it comes to projects; long-term projects are divided into
a series of specific short-term plans, each worked diligently. Since I am detailed oriented and like things to be neat,
clean, precise, I have little tolerance for those who are not and is impatient with those who continually make errors;
besides that, I also need to feel in control. Often times my need for discipline and predictability can be misinterpreted
as a controlling behavior that boxes people in; however, these behaviors can be understood using my instinctive ability
to maintain progress and productivity regardless of distractions.
1. A natural tactician.
2. Create action plans to reach goals.
3. Naturally anticipate what needs to be done.
4. Hard time working in a messy environment.
5. Take pride in making sure everything is in order.
6. Few members of the group can match my diligence.
7. Inspect and re-inspect work to eliminate avoidable mistakes
8. Outline steps establish timelines and execute plans with precision.
9. Disappointed in myself when someone points out an error I failed to detect.
10. Keep your physical environment and your personal appearance
	 clean and orderly.

My Leadership
Style

Transformational Leaders
Defined as a style of leadership focused on inspiring others to make a change; Transformational
Leaders are sometimes called quite leaders, they are the ones who lead by example; inspire and
engage followers. Known for their courage, confidence and willingness to make sacrifices for the
greater good, transformational leaders possess a single-minded need to streamline or change things
that no longer work; besides that, transformational leaders motivate workers and understands how to
form them into integral units for effective team work.
Ego in Check
It is easy to let ego take over when you are in
a position of power; however, transformational
leaders are masters at keeping their ego under
control, not lettting it interfere with the best
interest of their team or the organization. Simply
put, a transformational leader is able to put the
organization before their own personal gain and
also elicit the best performance from others.
Self-Management
Transformational leaders typically don’t need
much direction from others and are able to
manage themselves well, they do what they love
with values aligned with those of the organization
they lead. Transformational leaders are highly
internally motivated, and they use this motivation
to direct the organization to the right path. .
JULY 2019 12

Ability to Take the Right Risks
The ability to take calculated risks is a key
characteristic of a transformational leader. They
trust their instinct, and use the intelligence
gathered by team members to make informed
decisions.
Make Difficult Decisions
Being a leader is not always smooth sailing,
you often have to make tough decisions.
Transformational leaders do not shy away from
difficultdecisions.Theymaketheirdecisionswith
a clear focus on the values, vision, objectives,
and goals of the organization.
Share collective organizational
consciousness
Atransformational leader shares and understands
the collective consciousness of the entire
organization. This makes them particularly
attuned to the feelings of their team members,
and gives them a clear idea of what actions to
take to elicit desired actions from the employees.
Since they’re tapped into the organizational
consciousness, they are able to make decisions
that spur growth, and also create a shared vision
for the organization that all employees feel a part
of.
Adaptability
Transformational leaders knows that it is
important to constantly adapt to changing market
conditions to keep moving forward. They are
ever willing to adapt to new situations, and seek
creative ways to respond to the dynamic business
environment.
Inspirational
People seek to be inspired and transformational
leaders are perhaps the most inspiring of all.
They have the ability to motivate others to rise to
the occasion. Their style of inspiration is not just
limited to formal acknowledgement of a job well
done, rather they treat each employee as a valued
individual and take the time to understand what
motivates them.

Ms. Oprah Winfrey
mentor choice
JULY 2019 14
www.superwoman.gold
Research findings into Oprah Winfrey’s leadership peeled back interesting findings, informative
facts and useful leadership tools every entrepreneur needs for success in business. Only a brief
overview of the 25 page essay titled“An In-Dept Analysis of Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership” is
discussed here.
Ms. Oprah Winfrey
JULY 2019 15
www.superwoman.gold
Oprah is one of few extremely powerful leaders
who remain down to earth humble with a
focus on empowering others. This billionaire
media mogul talk show host, network owner,
philanthropist, actress and author has become
one the most influential people in the world; in
fact,Oprahissoinfluential,theterm“TheOprah
Effect” was coined in reference to the power
of her opinions and endorsements to influence
people; in particular, consumer purchasing
choices.
Besides being one of the most powerful and influential people in the world with a net worth
of $3 billion, Oprah Winfrey is just one of two black billionaires in North America. As a
transformational leader possessing many qualities; like, charisma, courage, vision, inspiration
and emotional intelligence. Oprah has become a very powerful person with many tools at her
disposal; for instance, taking advantage of her reputation, personal and positional power in the
media industry, she organized and structured the OWN network and its executive team.
Initially, the network started off strong; unfortunately, dull content combined with outdated shows
caused ratings to drop far enough to place the network in red. Oprah did not let failure stop her;
for one, her overall belief system to rise above the pain and to reframe from disappointments
helped her placed the network back on the success path.
Global Influencer
JULY 2019 16
www.superwoman.gold
Ms. Oprah Winfrey uses personal, political and positioning power to empower women and girls
around the world, driven by her belief that education is the most important gift in the world. Ms.
Winfrey believes in supporting and empowering others to help improve their quality of life.
Leadershipandmanagementskillsplayanessentialroleinbuildingandgrowingandorganization;
transformational leaders like Ms. Oprah Winfrey show us how to effectively solve problems,
address conflict and communicate one’s mission and vision.
Oprah successfully developed short and long-term solutions to save the OWN network. By
using creative and problem-solving tools, Ms. Winfrey created new methods to address conflict;
such as, the validation conflict management and maintain your emotional GPS methods – two
techniques I plan to emulate in future entrepreneurial endeavors.
JULY 2019 17
www.superwoman.gold
The validation conflict management approach is one technique I plan to emulate; for one,
it produces effective communication to resolve disputes. For example, research from various
psychologist confirm when someone believes you genuinely care, it changes the game; their
nervous system relaxes, tone softens, and everything suddenly starts to seem more manageable.
As a result, this management approach is proven effective for conflict resolution, effective team
building and can be used personally with family members. In other words, effective conflict
resolution begins with validating people when speaking and listening to them (Chris, 2015).
Oprah’s Unique
Problem Solving
& Conflict
Methods
JULY 2019 18
www.superwoman.gold
The second technique (Emotional GPS) I would emulate is what the late Steve Jobs and Oprah be-
lieves to be an effective management approach; according to Umoh (2018) “effective management
begins with self-awareness that only comes from connecting with your inner voice called by Oprah
as, maintaining your emotional GPS system - in other words, listening to your inner voice” (para. 2).
Ms. Winfrey says this is why she has been so successful; for the most part, she lives a fantastic life
because she lives from the inside out. Every decision that brought about profits came from listening
to that inner voice; Ms. Winfrey was quoted saying, “everything that I have - I have because I let it
be fueled by who I am”.
Currently, I listen to my inner voice; however, this is one technique I plan to master; after all, lis-
tening to the inner voice and following one’s gut instinct has always played a key role in helping
people attain success.
JULY 2019 19
www.superwoman.gold
Oprah and I are alike in many ways; in fact, the Clifton StrengthsFinder Self-Assessment
revealed just that; for instance, individualization enhances my ability to stand in someone’s
footsteps understanding their point of view; more importantly, it has brought clarity into why
people tend to bond quickly to me and become possessive of my talents. Other talents we have
in common include, emotional intelligence, charisma, achiever, discipline and critical thinking.
JULY 2019 20
www.superwoman.gold
Should the opportunity present itself, I would choose Oprah Winfrey as my transformational
leadership mentor to work with and learn from; after all, she is the most admired entrepreneur
with exceptional leadership and management skills to date.
As a learner with strong concentration skills, the thrill of working with such a seasoned
transformational leader would be an exciting venture full of more learnings and opportunities to
master new leadership skills.

Burena morris leadership portfolio

  • 1. Leadership Portfolio By: Ms. Burena Morris Southern New Hampshire University Associates Degree in Business Administration (1988) Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Entrepreneurship (2018) MBA with Concentration in Entrepreneurship (2021)
  • 2. JULY 2019 2 www.superwoman.gold I HOLD TRUE TO THIS BELIEF: “There is a transition occurring from the old paradigm in which leadership resided in a person or role, to a new one in which leadership is a collective process that is spread throughout networks of people.”
  • 4. JULY 2019 4 www.superwoman.gold Regardless of size or status as being for profit or nonprofit, every business has leadership; however, not every person tasked with responsibilities to lead are effective leaders. Developed by Don Clifton (father of Strengths Psychology) to help raise self-awareness through the assessment of personal talents; Clifton StrengthsFinder self-assessment opens the door to what makes you tick giving you a better chance of success in life. Using this self-assessment, five strengths were revealed; 1. Individualization 2. Input 3. Learner 4. Achiever 5. Discipline
  • 5. JULY 2019 5 www.superwoman.gold This theme supports why I am so intrigued by the uniqueness each person possesses; amazingly, this describes me perfectly. I instinctively observe each person’s style, motivation, how they think and build relationships; because I am such a keen observer of other people’s strengths, I tend to draw out the best in each person. In business, individualization helps me to build productive teams in the startup companies and small business I help structure and develop. Individualization People exceptionally talented in the individualization theme are intrigued with the unique qualities of each person; in other words, they have a gift for figuring out how different people can work together productively. 10. Easily identify what others are thinking and feeling; intuitively understand hopes, fears, joys and sorrows. Individualization Theme Stand Out Qualities
  • 6. JULY 2019 6 www.superwoman.gold People exceptionally talented in the input theme have a need to collect and archive information, ideas, artifacts or even relationships. Input This theme supports the inquisitive side of me explaining my overall need to collect things (words, facts, books, quotes and other tangible and non-tangible items). Whatever is collected is done because it interests me; in other words, my mind finds many things interesting in this beautiful world and its infinite variety and complex and exciting things. For instance, if I choose to read a great deal; it’s not necessarily to refine theories, but rather, to archive more information for future use. 10. Easily identify what others are thinking and feeling; intuitively understand hopes, fears, joys and sorrows. Input Theme Stand Out Qualities
  • 7. JULY 2019 7 www.superwoman.gold Learner People exceptionally talented in the learner theme have a great desire to learn and strive to continuously improve; in fact, the process of learning is more exciting than the outcome. This theme perfectly supports my passion and deep love for learning, I will forever be drawn to and excited by the overall process of learning. The steady and deliberate journey from ignorance to competence energizes me, the thrill of discovering the first few facts and early efforts to recite or practice is exciting; more importantly, the growing confidence of mastering a skill entices me. This excitement and enticement keeps me to engaged in adult learning experiences; such as current efforts to pursue my MBA with a concentration in Entrepreneurship. 7. Analyze and investigate mistakes, personal or professional loss or failure, 8. Eager to acquire the necessary knowledge or skills to complete the task or challenge. 9. I long to build on what I already know and yearn to improve on what I already can do. 10. Devote more time than most people exploring topics, problems or opportunities that pique, arouse or excite my interest. Learner Theme Stand Out Qualities
  • 8. JULY 2019 8 www.superwoman.gold People exceptionally talented in the achiever theme work hard, possess a great deal of stamina and take immense satisfaction in being busy and productive. ACHIEVER This theme supports my incredible drive and constant need for achievement; regardless of being a work day, holiday, vacation or weekend. Every day starts at zero and by the end of the day, something tangible must be achieved for me to feel good about myself. This truly explains the internal fire burning inside me pushing me to do and achieve more; doubly importantly, being an achiever gives me the energy needed to work long hours without burning out. It’s the faithful jolt I can count on to get each new task or challenge started; the motivating factor that keeps me moving and the power supply that causes me to set the pace for the day. 10. A constant need to increase productivity, improve the quality of my outcomes, enhance efficiency, and better manage my priorities. Achiever Theme Stand Out Qualities
  • 9. JULY 2019 9 www.superwoman.gold People exceptionally talented in the discipline theme enjoy routine and structure; for the most part, their world is best described by the order they create. Discipline This theme supports my overall need for predictability; no doubt, my world must be instinctively ordered, planned and structured with routines, timelines and deadlines. When it comes to projects; long-term projects are divided into a series of specific short-term plans, each worked diligently. Since I am detailed oriented and like things to be neat, clean, precise, I have little tolerance for those who are not and is impatient with those who continually make errors; besides that, I also need to feel in control. Often times my need for discipline and predictability can be misinterpreted as a controlling behavior that boxes people in; however, these behaviors can be understood using my instinctive ability to maintain progress and productivity regardless of distractions. 1. A natural tactician. 2. Create action plans to reach goals. 3. Naturally anticipate what needs to be done. 4. Hard time working in a messy environment. 5. Take pride in making sure everything is in order. 6. Few members of the group can match my diligence. 7. Inspect and re-inspect work to eliminate avoidable mistakes 8. Outline steps establish timelines and execute plans with precision. 9. Disappointed in myself when someone points out an error I failed to detect. 10. Keep your physical environment and your personal appearance clean and orderly. Discipline Theme Stand Out Qualities
  • 11. JULY 2019 11 www.superwoman.gold Transformational Leaders Defined as a style of leadership focused on inspiring others to make a change; Transformational Leaders are sometimes called quite leaders, they are the ones who lead by example; inspire and engage followers. Known for their courage, confidence and willingness to make sacrifices for the greater good, transformational leaders possess a single-minded need to streamline or change things that no longer work; besides that, transformational leaders motivate workers and understands how to form them into integral units for effective team work. Ego in Check It is easy to let ego take over when you are in a position of power; however, transformational leaders are masters at keeping their ego under control, not lettting it interfere with the best interest of their team or the organization. Simply put, a transformational leader is able to put the organization before their own personal gain and also elicit the best performance from others. Self-Management Transformational leaders typically don’t need much direction from others and are able to manage themselves well, they do what they love with values aligned with those of the organization they lead. Transformational leaders are highly internally motivated, and they use this motivation to direct the organization to the right path. .
  • 12. JULY 2019 12 www.superwoman.gold Ability to Take the Right Risks The ability to take calculated risks is a key characteristic of a transformational leader. They trust their instinct, and use the intelligence gathered by team members to make informed decisions. Make Difficult Decisions Being a leader is not always smooth sailing, you often have to make tough decisions. Transformational leaders do not shy away from difficultdecisions.Theymaketheirdecisionswith a clear focus on the values, vision, objectives, and goals of the organization. Share collective organizational consciousness Atransformational leader shares and understands the collective consciousness of the entire organization. This makes them particularly attuned to the feelings of their team members, and gives them a clear idea of what actions to take to elicit desired actions from the employees. Since they’re tapped into the organizational consciousness, they are able to make decisions that spur growth, and also create a shared vision for the organization that all employees feel a part of. Adaptability Transformational leaders knows that it is important to constantly adapt to changing market conditions to keep moving forward. They are ever willing to adapt to new situations, and seek creative ways to respond to the dynamic business environment. Inspirational People seek to be inspired and transformational leaders are perhaps the most inspiring of all. They have the ability to motivate others to rise to the occasion. Their style of inspiration is not just limited to formal acknowledgement of a job well done, rather they treat each employee as a valued individual and take the time to understand what motivates them.
  • 13. JULY 2019 13 www.superwoman.gold Ms. Oprah Winfrey mentor choice
  • 14. JULY 2019 14 www.superwoman.gold Research findings into Oprah Winfrey’s leadership peeled back interesting findings, informative facts and useful leadership tools every entrepreneur needs for success in business. Only a brief overview of the 25 page essay titled“An In-Dept Analysis of Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership” is discussed here. Ms. Oprah Winfrey
  • 15. JULY 2019 15 www.superwoman.gold Oprah is one of few extremely powerful leaders who remain down to earth humble with a focus on empowering others. This billionaire media mogul talk show host, network owner, philanthropist, actress and author has become one the most influential people in the world; in fact,Oprahissoinfluential, theterm“TheOprah Effect” was coined in reference to the power of her opinions and endorsements to influence people; in particular, consumer purchasing choices. Besides being one of the most powerful and influential people in the world with a net worth of $3 billion, Oprah Winfrey is just one of two black billionaires in North America. As a transformational leader possessing many qualities; like, charisma, courage, vision, inspiration and emotional intelligence. Oprah has become a very powerful person with many tools at her disposal; for instance, taking advantage of her reputation, personal and positional power in the media industry, she organized and structured the OWN network and its executive team. Initially, the network started off strong; unfortunately, dull content combined with outdated shows caused ratings to drop far enough to place the network in red. Oprah did not let failure stop her; for one, her overall belief system to rise above the pain and to reframe from disappointments helped her placed the network back on the success path. Global Influencer
  • 16. JULY 2019 16 www.superwoman.gold Ms. Oprah Winfrey uses personal, political and positioning power to empower women and girls around the world, driven by her belief that education is the most important gift in the world. Ms. Winfrey believes in supporting and empowering others to help improve their quality of life. Leadershipandmanagementskillsplayanessentialroleinbuildingandgrowingandorganization; transformational leaders like Ms. Oprah Winfrey show us how to effectively solve problems, address conflict and communicate one’s mission and vision. Oprah successfully developed short and long-term solutions to save the OWN network. By using creative and problem-solving tools, Ms. Winfrey created new methods to address conflict; such as, the validation conflict management and maintain your emotional GPS methods – two techniques I plan to emulate in future entrepreneurial endeavors.
  • 17. JULY 2019 17 www.superwoman.gold The validation conflict management approach is one technique I plan to emulate; for one, it produces effective communication to resolve disputes. For example, research from various psychologist confirm when someone believes you genuinely care, it changes the game; their nervous system relaxes, tone softens, and everything suddenly starts to seem more manageable. As a result, this management approach is proven effective for conflict resolution, effective team building and can be used personally with family members. In other words, effective conflict resolution begins with validating people when speaking and listening to them (Chris, 2015). Oprah’s Unique Problem Solving & Conflict Methods
  • 18. JULY 2019 18 www.superwoman.gold The second technique (Emotional GPS) I would emulate is what the late Steve Jobs and Oprah be- lieves to be an effective management approach; according to Umoh (2018) “effective management begins with self-awareness that only comes from connecting with your inner voice called by Oprah as, maintaining your emotional GPS system - in other words, listening to your inner voice” (para. 2). Ms. Winfrey says this is why she has been so successful; for the most part, she lives a fantastic life because she lives from the inside out. Every decision that brought about profits came from listening to that inner voice; Ms. Winfrey was quoted saying, “everything that I have - I have because I let it be fueled by who I am”. Currently, I listen to my inner voice; however, this is one technique I plan to master; after all, lis- tening to the inner voice and following one’s gut instinct has always played a key role in helping people attain success.
  • 19. JULY 2019 19 www.superwoman.gold Oprah and I are alike in many ways; in fact, the Clifton StrengthsFinder Self-Assessment revealed just that; for instance, individualization enhances my ability to stand in someone’s footsteps understanding their point of view; more importantly, it has brought clarity into why people tend to bond quickly to me and become possessive of my talents. Other talents we have in common include, emotional intelligence, charisma, achiever, discipline and critical thinking.
  • 20. JULY 2019 20 www.superwoman.gold Should the opportunity present itself, I would choose Oprah Winfrey as my transformational leadership mentor to work with and learn from; after all, she is the most admired entrepreneur with exceptional leadership and management skills to date. As a learner with strong concentration skills, the thrill of working with such a seasoned transformational leader would be an exciting venture full of more learnings and opportunities to master new leadership skills.
