2. Biography
William Horner was a mathematician and
school headmaster from Bristol. Born in 1786,
his father was from Ireland, who also
happened to have the same name as him. At
the age of only 14, he became an assistant
master at Kingswood school, in 1800. He
became headmaster 4 years later at the age
of 18. Nine years later, he founded his own
school called ‘The Seminary’ in Bath. He
came up with the idea of the zoetrope, which
was originally named the Daedalum, for his
mathematic classes to teach his students in a
easier manner, with pictures.

Impact
Due to William Horner, and his
creation of the zoetrope, it
allowed the animation industry
to develop with the idea that
moving the images faster than
the eye can register the
change to create the illusion
that the image is moving.
