Overview of
Mary’s
Situation
● Mary is the director of a language school for
20 years now. Tradition has been face to face
contact. However, Mary is now very open to
the idea of synchronous and asynchronous
technologies (eg: email and video chats). She
isn’t confident however.
● She feels even less comfortable making
institutional decisions to implement a wide
scale change
● F2F teachers have not adapted, some know
the basics such as email and cell phones. Small
group of retired teachers who work part time
use classical approach, they helped Mary get
on her feet several years ago - won several
awards - but refuse to teach online.
● Approaches 2 young teachers, Pierre and Joe
who have both agreed to participate in the
pilot program.
Breakdown of the Problem
Our focus is on the problem of transitioning from traditional to modern online
education.
Mary and her teachers don’t know and aren’t comfortable with the technology yet.
Mary’s regular staff need to learn how to integrate into today's
world.

● Use Joe & Pierre to help transition staff by
acting as instructional teachers for a week long
Workshop
● In-Class participation (1 or 2 classes) in which
the basics of Google hangouts, gmail, and
classroom are taught from Joe and Pierre
● Continued education via google suite
○ Will begin with an initial gmail in which
staff has said they know the basics of
○ Joe and Pierre will then go through
Classroom and Hangouts and how they
are effective learning tools.
○ They will create future online
instructional videos/lesson plans on how
to best use google to facilitate new
teaching methods within google
classroom , gmail and hangouts.

user friendly social media platform
that allows people to post/advertise
whatever they want

post assignments, lessons, homework
and interact with students

  • 2. Overview of Mary’s Situation ● Mary is the director of a language school for 20 years now. Tradition has been face to face contact. However, Mary is now very open to the idea of synchronous and asynchronous technologies (eg: email and video chats). She isn’t confident however. ● She feels even less comfortable making institutional decisions to implement a wide scale change ● F2F teachers have not adapted, some know the basics such as email and cell phones. Small group of retired teachers who work part time use classical approach, they helped Mary get on her feet several years ago - won several awards - but refuse to teach online. ● Approaches 2 young teachers, Pierre and Joe who have both agreed to participate in the pilot program.
  • 3. Breakdown of the Problem Our focus is on the problem of transitioning from traditional to modern online education. Mary and her teachers don’t know and aren’t comfortable with the technology yet. Mary’s regular staff need to learn how to integrate into today's world.
  • 4. Traditional School Traditional face to face in-class interactions Mary decides to try online integration GOALS Finally transition to a school integrated to the online experience In-Class participation (1 or 2 classes) in which the basics are taught through conference camera call from Joe and Pierre New Online Integrated School Continued education via google suite Gap Analysis
  • 5. Solution ● Use Joe & Pierre to help transition staff by acting as instructional teachers for a week long Workshop ● In-Class participation (1 or 2 classes) in which the basics of Google hangouts, gmail, and classroom are taught from Joe and Pierre ● Continued education via google suite ○ Will begin with an initial gmail in which staff has said they know the basics of ○ Joe and Pierre will then go through Classroom and Hangouts and how they are effective learning tools. ○ They will create future online instructional videos/lesson plans on how to best use google to facilitate new teaching methods within google classroom , gmail and hangouts.
  • 6. Reasoning Behind Workshop ● The in-class portion will provide an overview of the benefits of using the Google suite social media products ● The online portion will give the teachers a view of how beneficial online learning can be ● This workshop allows hands on experience for teachers and allow them to really grasp the process of teaching with social media
  • 7. Reasons for Google Plus/Hangouts and Classroom ● Hangouts and Google plus provides a user friendly social media platform that allows people to post/advertise whatever they want ● Classroom allows teachers a place to post assignments, lessons, homework and interact with students
