Electric System (BES) are maintained and tested by having a documented Protection
System maintenance program (PSMP) and documented and dated test results

PRC-005-2 Key Requirements
PSMP to define maintenance intervals as time based or performance based
Intervals for Time based Maintenance defined by type of relay (EM or Digital) and relay monitoring
Ranges from 6 to 12 years
Verify the that relays communications are functioning every 4 months if not monitored
Unmonitored Station Batteries
Verify dc voltage and electrolytes every 4 months
Verify charger, continuity, connection resistance every 18 months
Perform capacity test every 3-6 years depending on type of battery
CT/PT Verification Tests – verify that current & voltage inputs to the relays are providing expected quantities every 6
years for unmonitored relays and every 12 years if self diagnostics and alarming is monitored
Trip Tests – verify operation all breaker trips coils and lockout relays every 6 years, aux relays every 12 yrs
Alarm Monitoring – verify alarms are sent to a monitoring location where corrective action can be initiated within 24
hours

PRC-006-2: Automatic Underfrequency Load Shedding
Description: To establish design and documentation requirements for automatic underfrequency
load shedding (UFLS) programs to arrest declining frequency, assist recovery of frequency
following underfrequency events and provide last resort system preservation measures.
Applies to: All entities in the BES (Generators > 20 MVA)

that loadability is not limited while still adequately protecting the line.

Voltage Schedules
Description: Verifies generator capability data, specifically real and reactive power capability.
This is a machine test and does not require protective device coordination in order
to successfully complete the test. Protective devices can be adjusted to allow for as
successful test.

than 20 MVA or an aggregate generating capacity greater than 75 MVA
