INTERNATIONAL FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE CONDUCTS ITS 5TH ANNUAL DRAFT LOTTERY
NIGERIA’S GREEN BEARS RETURN TO THE IFFL COMPETITION & CAPTURES THE #1 DRAFT PICK
Despite numerous last-minute challenges, the International Fantasy Football League successfully conducted its 5th
Annual Draft Lottery, and by doing so, the league’s twelve teams now know well in advance where they will be selecting in
the IFFL’s July 20th draft.
With less than a 24-hour notice, IFFL Founder, CEO & Commissioner Brian Slack was informed of an unforeseen
situation that prevented the draft lottery from being held at Poe’s Pub & Eatery. Less than 48-hours prior to the draft
lottery, the United Kingdom’s Scott Clarkson informed Mr. Slack that he and his team, Talk Gurley to Me, were stepping
down from the IFFL competition.
Yet, adversity is nothing new for Brian.
Said Slack, “Yeah, well, I learned the hard way many, many years ago that you always have a Plan B in place. In both
unexpected situations, we still managed to turn sour grapes into vintage wine. In terms of the draft lottery, we simply
relocated the event to my office/studio. There, we set up a makeshift set. The rest is history. Pertaining to Mr. Clarkson,
we decided to bring back Nigeria’s Obiora Amadi and the Green Bears as their replacement. Most of those associated
with us will remember that last year we brought the Green Bears in. However, due to extenuating circumstances, the
Green Bears were placed back on top of our waiting list and were asked to sit out last year so that would give them a
chance to get a full understanding of the league and how fantasy football generally operates. Nigeria deserved better than
what the situation offered at that time. Now, the opportunity has arrived for the Green Bears to prove themselves worthy.”

The first helmet to be pulled during the IFFL Draft Lottery were Australia’s Joshua Mann and StormOZ. In StormOZ’s two
prior lotteries, they managed to walk away with the 2nd overall pick in 2017- their first year in the league- and 1st overall
last season, of which they made it all the way to World Bowl IV before succumbing to Canada’s Remis Island. In both
seasons with earlier selections, Mann and StormOZ reached the playoff. But, can they do the same this year with the last
pick in the 1st round going into July 20th’s draft?
The second helmet pulled belonged to Canada’s Two-time defending World Champions Michael Remis and Remis Island.
Despite getting stuck with the last 1st round draft pick last season, Remis Island successfully defended the first of their
two titles, making them the IFFL’s first, true dynasty team. In Remis Island’s past three drafts in the IFFL competition, they
selected 12th, 9th and 5th in ’18, ’17 and ’16, respectively; all resulting in back-to-back-to-back post-seasons.
The third helmet pulled were China’s Yanran Wang and her team, Shanghai Wang. In Yanran’s rookie season, she
proved that gender makes no difference, whatsoever, in fantasy football. After drafting 6th out of 12 teams, Shanghai
Wang finished their first season 10-3-0 and earned the #1 seed going into last year’s playoffs. This season, they will
select 10th. Will that have any negative impact on Shanghai Wang’s attempt to raise the bar by capturing the world title?
We’ll find out for sure in seven months.
Drafting 9th overall will be the USA’s former-NFL offensive lineman Cory Procter and his Procters. The Procters have
never reached the post-season in their first four tries, nor have they ever drafted any higher than 6th. Does that perhaps
have any bearing on their lack of success? Maybe. Maybe not. Much of their demise has been by putting their trust in the
fantasy software the league uses to draft their players for them. Sometimes that works. Sometimes it doesn’t. Till now, it
hasn’t, at least not for the Procters.
Drafting 8th in July will be Mexico’s Jorge Boada and Bleeding Blue. Bleeding Blue is the only team in the IFFL who has
made the playoffs in each of the league’s first four seasons. Last year, Bleeding Blue also drafted 8th and with that 1st
round selection, they chose Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, just as they did in the 1st round in 2 of the 3 prior drafts.
Rodgers has proven to be quite the rabbit’s foot for Bleeding Blue, although Rodgers, a former Super Bowl winner and
league MVP, was barely a factor in Bleeding Blue’s success in 2018. If history has shown us anything, Mr. Boada will try,
once again, to use one of his earlier round picks to retain Rodgers for a 5th-straight season…or will he?
The sixth helmet drawn belonged to China’s Hui Guo and his Jaymin. Last year, the Jaymin selected 5th overall, and in
the process, chose All-world wideout Antonio Brown for a third-consecutive draft. Yet, because of a lack of quality running
backs for support throughout the 2018 campaign, the Jaymin finished the season 7-6-0 with three other teams, ultimately
missing the post-season in the tie-breaker process. Last year marked the second time in three years the Jaymin failed to
make the playoffs after dominating the league in their two of their first three years. Is it time for Mr. Guo to change his
strategy and say adios to A.B. and shift over to a more run-based approach?
Drafting 6th will be Russia’s Mikhail Rezakov and the Hackers, who are coming off their best year yet; finishing last
season with a 6-7-0 record after starting the 2018 campaign 0-3-0. This will be the Hackers second time in their three-year
history that they have the 6th overall pick. Last year, they drafted 9th, of which they selected Kameer Hunt, who scored 14
combined touchdowns in 11 games before getting canned for domestic violence. Despite drafting 6th, there’s a plethora of
talent like we haven’t seen for quite some time, so the worst that could happen for the Hackers is they end up with a #3
player at any given position.
The 8th helmet pulled were the United Kingdom’s Gordon Dedman and his Men of Steel. Last year, the Men of Steel
pounded their opponents into submission, with backs Gordon and Conner as their featured 1-2 punch. Consequently, they
ended up with the league’s second-best record at 9-4-0; all that despite drafting 11th out of twelve teams. Sniffing out a
top-tier back to surround their running game around should be a whole lot easier sitting at #5 than next-to-last. That isn’t
to say the Men of Steel won’t change their plan of attack if a higher-ranked receiver is there for the taking.
The 4th overall draft pick goes to the USA’s Mighty Cyclones. Even though the Mighty Cyclones have never drafted lower
than 7th, their past teams have always struggled miserably coming out of the gate: 2-4-0 (’18), 2-4-0 (’17), 1-2-0 (’16), 2-
6-0 (’15). Their past #1s haven’t been too kind, either. Ezekiel Elliott was suspended for 6 games in 2017, Dez Bryant
stunk up his fear-factor in 2016, and Le’Veon Bell missed 10 games via suspension and injury in 2015. Last season finally
paid off for the Mighty Cyclones by selecting Elliott for the second year in-a-row, yet not enough for them to reach the
playoffs.
Selecting 3rd overall will be the United Kingdom’s Jason Ruth and the Bowl Bound Mavericks, who are aiming for their
3rd-straight playoff run. Last year, the Bowl Bound Mavericks wisely chose Alvin Kamara. Two years prior, they likewise
drafted running backs, namely Marshawn Lynch (’17) and Ezekiel Elliott (’16). Before, the BB Mavericks have never had a
top-three draft pick, and as much of an opportunity it is for them to get a gem of a player, it is even more crucial to grab
‘em while you’ve got ‘em, because Bowl Bound Mavs’ next selection won’t come around again until the 22nd pick.
Now, we come to the #2 selection, which belongs to the USA’s Berk Wiley and his Big Dawgs. Since joining the league
four years ago, two of those seasons were in intern roles. The Big Dawgs failed to reach the playoffs both those years
(’15, ’18). In the two years the Big Dawgs came in from start-to-finish, they made the playoffs both those particular
seasons, including a World Bowl appearance in 2017. This year, the Big Dawgs are back in the thick of things from the
very start. And what better opportunity to get things back on the path to success than landing the #2 draft spot?
When the smoke cleared, only one team remained, and in the process, captured the 1st overall draft pick. That team was
Nigeria’s Obiora Amadi and the Green Bears. Oddly enough, there has been a pattern throughout the IFFL’s history of
first-year competitors capturing one of the top-two draft spots. In 2016, newcomers Alexey Karakay and his Red Machine
representing Russia, took the top-pick. In 2017, Australia’s Joshua Mann and StormOZ obtained the 2nd overall selection.
The only question now is, who will the Green Bears choose? Patrick Mahomes? Saquon Barkley? DeAndre Hopkins? A
kicker? Stay tuned.

2019 INTERNATIONAL FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE DRAFT LOTTERY REVIEW

  • 1. INTERNATIONAL FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE CONDUCTS ITS 5TH ANNUAL DRAFT LOTTERY NIGERIA’S GREEN BEARS RETURN TO THE IFFL COMPETITION & CAPTURES THE #1 DRAFT PICK Despite numerous last-minute challenges, the International Fantasy Football League successfully conducted its 5th Annual Draft Lottery, and by doing so, the league’s twelve teams now know well in advance where they will be selecting in the IFFL’s July 20th draft. With less than a 24-hour notice, IFFL Founder, CEO & Commissioner Brian Slack was informed of an unforeseen situation that prevented the draft lottery from being held at Poe’s Pub & Eatery. Less than 48-hours prior to the draft lottery, the United Kingdom’s Scott Clarkson informed Mr. Slack that he and his team, Talk Gurley to Me, were stepping down from the IFFL competition. Yet, adversity is nothing new for Brian. Said Slack, “Yeah, well, I learned the hard way many, many years ago that you always have a Plan B in place. In both unexpected situations, we still managed to turn sour grapes into vintage wine. In terms of the draft lottery, we simply relocated the event to my office/studio. There, we set up a makeshift set. The rest is history. Pertaining to Mr. Clarkson, we decided to bring back Nigeria’s Obiora Amadi and the Green Bears as their replacement. Most of those associated with us will remember that last year we brought the Green Bears in. However, due to extenuating circumstances, the Green Bears were placed back on top of our waiting list and were asked to sit out last year so that would give them a chance to get a full understanding of the league and how fantasy football generally operates. Nigeria deserved better than what the situation offered at that time. Now, the opportunity has arrived for the Green Bears to prove themselves worthy.”

In StormOZ’s two prior lotteries, they managed to walk away with the 2nd overall pick in 2017- their first year in the league- and 1st overall last season, of which they made it all the way to World Bowl IV before succumbing to Canada’s Remis Island. In both
  • 5. seasons with earlier selections, Mann and StormOZ reached the playoff. But, can they do the same this year with the last pick in the 1st round going into July 20th’s draft? The second helmet pulled belonged to Canada’s Two-time defending World Champions Michael Remis and Remis Island. Despite getting stuck with the last 1st round draft pick last season, Remis Island successfully defended the first of their two titles, making them the IFFL’s first, true dynasty team. In Remis Island’s past three drafts in the IFFL competition, they selected 12th, 9th and 5th in ’18, ’17 and ’16, respectively; all resulting in back-to-back-to-back post-seasons. The third helmet pulled were China’s Yanran Wang and her team, Shanghai Wang. In Yanran’s rookie season, she proved that gender makes no difference, whatsoever, in fantasy football. After drafting 6th out of 12 teams, Shanghai Wang finished their first season 10-3-0 and earned the #1 seed going into last year’s playoffs. This season, they will select 10th. Will that have any negative impact on Shanghai Wang’s attempt to raise the bar by capturing the world title? We’ll find out for sure in seven months. Drafting 9th overall will be the USA’s former-NFL offensive lineman Cory Procter and his Procters. The Procters have never reached the post-season in their first four tries, nor have they ever drafted any higher than 6th. Does that perhaps have any bearing on their lack of success? Maybe. Maybe not. Much of their demise has been by putting their trust in the fantasy software the league uses to draft their players for them. Sometimes that works. Sometimes it doesn’t. Till now, it hasn’t, at least not for the Procters. Drafting 8th in July will be Mexico’s Jorge Boada and Bleeding Blue. Bleeding Blue is the only team in the IFFL who has made the playoffs in each of the league’s first four seasons. Last year, Bleeding Blue also drafted 8th and with that 1st round selection, they chose Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, just as they did in the 1st round in 2 of the 3 prior drafts. Rodgers has proven to be quite the rabbit’s foot for Bleeding Blue, although Rodgers, a former Super Bowl winner and league MVP, was barely a factor in Bleeding Blue’s success in 2018. If history has shown us anything, Mr. Boada will try, once again, to use one of his earlier round picks to retain Rodgers for a 5th-straight season…or will he? The sixth helmet drawn belonged to China’s Hui Guo and his Jaymin. Last year, the Jaymin selected 5th overall, and in the process, chose All-world wideout Antonio Brown for a third-consecutive draft. Yet, because of a lack of quality running backs for support throughout the 2018 campaign, the Jaymin finished the season 7-6-0 with three other teams, ultimately missing the post-season in the tie-breaker process. Last year marked the second time in three years the Jaymin failed to make the playoffs after dominating the league in their two of their first three years. Is it time for Mr. Guo to change his strategy and say adios to A.B. and shift over to a more run-based approach? Drafting 6th will be Russia’s Mikhail Rezakov and the Hackers, who are coming off their best year yet; finishing last season with a 6-7-0 record after starting the 2018 campaign 0-3-0. This will be the Hackers second time in their three-year history that they have the 6th overall pick. Last year, they drafted 9th, of which they selected Kameer Hunt, who scored 14 combined touchdowns in 11 games before getting canned for domestic violence. Despite drafting 6th, there’s a plethora of talent like we haven’t seen for quite some time, so the worst that could happen for the Hackers is they end up with a #3 player at any given position. The 8th helmet pulled were the United Kingdom’s Gordon Dedman and his Men of Steel. Last year, the Men of Steel pounded their opponents into submission, with backs Gordon and Conner as their featured 1-2 punch. Consequently, they ended up with the league’s second-best record at 9-4-0; all that despite drafting 11th out of twelve teams. Sniffing out a top-tier back to surround their running game around should be a whole lot easier sitting at #5 than next-to-last. That isn’t to say the Men of Steel won’t change their plan of attack if a higher-ranked receiver is there for the taking. The 4th overall draft pick goes to the USA’s Mighty Cyclones. Even though the Mighty Cyclones have never drafted lower than 7th, their past teams have always struggled miserably coming out of the gate: 2-4-0 (’18), 2-4-0 (’17), 1-2-0 (’16), 2- 6-0 (’15). Their past #1s haven’t been too kind, either. Ezekiel Elliott was suspended for 6 games in 2017, Dez Bryant stunk up his fear-factor in 2016, and Le’Veon Bell missed 10 games via suspension and injury in 2015. Last season finally paid off for the Mighty Cyclones by selecting Elliott for the second year in-a-row, yet not enough for them to reach the playoffs. Selecting 3rd overall will be the United Kingdom’s Jason Ruth and the Bowl Bound Mavericks, who are aiming for their 3rd-straight playoff run. Last year, the Bowl Bound Mavericks wisely chose Alvin Kamara. Two years prior, they likewise drafted running backs, namely Marshawn Lynch (’17) and Ezekiel Elliott (’16). Before, the BB Mavericks have never had a top-three draft pick, and as much of an opportunity it is for them to get a gem of a player, it is even more crucial to grab ‘em while you’ve got ‘em, because Bowl Bound Mavs’ next selection won’t come around again until the 22nd pick. Now, we come to the #2 selection, which belongs to the USA’s Berk Wiley and his Big Dawgs. Since joining the league four years ago, two of those seasons were in intern roles. The Big Dawgs failed to reach the playoffs both those years
  • 6. (’15, ’18). In the two years the Big Dawgs came in from start-to-finish, they made the playoffs both those particular seasons, including a World Bowl appearance in 2017. This year, the Big Dawgs are back in the thick of things from the very start. And what better opportunity to get things back on the path to success than landing the #2 draft spot? When the smoke cleared, only one team remained, and in the process, captured the 1st overall draft pick. That team was Nigeria’s Obiora Amadi and the Green Bears. Oddly enough, there has been a pattern throughout the IFFL’s history of first-year competitors capturing one of the top-two draft spots. In 2016, newcomers Alexey Karakay and his Red Machine representing Russia, took the top-pick. In 2017, Australia’s Joshua Mann and StormOZ obtained the 2nd overall selection. The only question now is, who will the Green Bears choose? Patrick Mahomes? Saquon Barkley? DeAndre Hopkins? A kicker? Stay tuned. 2019 IFFL 1ST ROUND DRAFT ORDER & MOCK SELECTIONS IFFL TEAM MOCK PLAYER PROJ. PK. TEAM NATION OWNER POS.
