climate refugees destabilizing

unprecedented extinctions.

5. We, the human species, are confronting a
planetary emergency – a threat to the
survival of our civilization that is
gathering ominous and destructive
potential even as we gather here.

6. The struggle to save the global
environment is in one way much more
difficult than the struggle to vanquish
Hitler, for this time the war is with
ourselves. We are the enemy, just as we
have only ourselves as allies.

7. We have arrived at a moment of decision.
Our home - Earth - is in grave danger.
What is at risk of being destroyed is not
the planet itself, of course, but the
conditions that have made it hospitable
for human beings.

8. Many scientists are now warning that we
are moving closer to several tipping
points that could — within as little as 10
years — make it impossible for us to
avoid irretrievable damage to the
planet’s habitability for human
civilization

9. The survival of the United States of
America as we know it is at risk. And even
more — if more should be required —
the future of human civilization is at
stake

10. Future generations may well have
occasion to ask themselves, ‘What were
our parents thinking? Why didn't they
wake up when they had a chance?
