From the choir loft
• Pedagogical Notes
– Active Learning is about students doing more! Students retain
little of what they read and hear, a slightly larger percentage of
what they write, but most of what they DO!
• TBL Classroom Tech Tools Used
– Everything!!
– Don’t forget the lights, rolling chairs, and many walls. That’s
“tech” too … use it all.

Play this slide as students come in … turn off YouTube Annotations
(3 min) Briefly review objectives
Bring them through a series of activities – by the end – they will be able to:
(4 min) Activity: 30 seconds, share a cell phone photo with teammates, tweet out! Help students download a QR reader on their mobile phone. If someone doesn’t have a mobile phone or tablet, they can look on with others. Likewise, they can talk about a Googled image if they don’t want to show their personal photos. Brad, show cell phone photo on doc cam.
Spend ~30 seconds showing your group a personal photo from your mobile device, share the photo and a funny story about it. Take a group selfie and don't forget to tweet! #CIRTL #UMassCIRTL

(2 min) Cut to the wireless projection slides after this one
(10 min) In teams of 2-3 have students find Waldo in the classroom! Place stickies on the equipment and check-off on side of screen with dry erase marker.
Redo numbers
(2 min) And back to the wireless slides for a Moodle quiz on room technology
(10 min) Blindfolded Whiteboard Activity
1) Blindfold one student in your team
2) Stand them near the board with a marker
3) Other students have to tell them how to draw a line between 2, 3, or 4 points on the board by the route developed by the instructor
4) Instructor, draw 2, 3, or 4 points on the board using TBL CLASSROOM PODIUM ANNOTATION FEATURE
*Do an example!
*Student teams “race” to see which table wins, just like the show Amazing Race….instructors monitor teams.
*Winners (or losers) show their results by pressing AB WALL BUTTONS to all wall-mounted LCDs
