TV Drama Evaluation By Bradley Leech
TV Drama Research The first page of my blog showed the research I did into current TV dramas and magazine articles. I even created a questionnaire to see what kind of TV drama people wanted to see. When I asked the 10 people whether making a new TV drama would be good, many of them said no because if the new drama and the old dramas clashed in schedule it would make watching them both very difficult. But this doesn’t mean making a new TV drama is a bad idea. My research into current TV dramas has shown me that although at first many people aren’t willing to watch a new TV drama, eventually if they are convinced it is a good show, they begin watching it. I also noticed that apart from Coronation Street, East Enders and Emmerdale, most new TV dramas become successful because they offer something completely different to the audience, such as Heroes and Skins. These two are completely different to each other.
TV Drama Audience The audience I tried aiming for with my new TV drama were teenagers and young adults, but I wanted to make sure that if someone older than this were to watch it, they wouldn’t be put off. For example, many teenagers watch Coronation Street, yet hardly any of the characters are teenagers. Most of the characters are young adults or older. This shows that teenagers aren’t just interested in watching someone the same age as themselves. They are also interested in watching adults get into all sorts of trouble, possibly because they themselves are soon to be adults. This allowed for a diversity of ages in my new TV drama and this is why I included not only teenagers, but young adults and older.
Technology Used I used a lot of different technology to help me create the article about my TV drama and even plan my TV drama. I used a mobile phone to generate images and upload them to a computer, where I then placed them onto my article. I also used a lot of internet applications to help me update my blog constantly throughout the entire project. For example, I used SlideShareand YouTube to upload PowerPoint slides and videos, which were then placed on my blog. I also manipulated some of the images I had taken in Adobe PhotoShop, which is also what I used to create my article, so they would appear how I wanted them to on my article or blog.
TV Drama Marketing The article I created to advertise my new TV drama had a layout similar to one of the articles I had researched at the start of the entire project. I took ideas from current articles to advertise my new TV drama as best I possibly could. For example, the whole article was basically an interview with the dramas director, which was me. I had to think of questions, then think of a way to answer them that would seem professional to the audience and also grab their attention. I noticed that a lot of articles similar to mine had placed small images next to the questions. The images were relevant to the answers too. Also, most of the articles I looked at that were similar to mine had the title of the show they were advertising on top of a huge image. This is where I got that idea from. I also wanted the show to be a surprise to many of the fans that it would eventually pick up. This is why I kept the character and location details a huge secret. It is so that when the audience first sit down to watch the new TV drama, they don’t know what to suspect in the first episode. Anything at all could happen. This created a sense of mystery, making them curious, which would hopefully encourage them to carry on watching the show.
