  • Great post, and all these points matter. Especially important is the realization that you can't change the culture overnight. What interests me though is how company culture could also play in the hiring process. You want your culture to improve with each new hire. And with today's job market, your culture mattes, and can influence people to send in their CV. For this, I recommend introducing collaborative hiring as a part of your company culture. What I mean by this is creating a culture where every person can be involved with the hiring process. For example: instead of using a hiring manager, the whole team helps in scouting talent. Applicants are not only judged by one person, but by their future peers and co-workers. This can lead to better hires: The candidates fit the company culture better, for starters.   • Great article. I'm an aerospace engineer, working in Reliability, Maintainability, Safety (RMS), and Logistics. I just interviewed at small comany in Huntsville, AL for a Reliability position supporting the Army, and in the end it wasn't what you expected. The offer came well under what the average Reliability Engineer made there, and no flexiblity beside the typical PTO package (less than you'd expect for 38 yrs +) I read-up on it on Glassdoor. They had issues with raises and compensation. You hope for the best. IF they like you, hope or expect things to go smoothly. I just wish more companies embrace these values. Improving your company culture, inviting employees t particpate, feel valued, ...all helps toward your brand and what you stand for. It's an evolving thing. (They are not a bad employer, but something is missing.) Not so with all companies. They thought they did well. It became a flat take it or leave it.From all I know, even in the not perfect fit jobs, you should pay and compensate candidates appropriately. I hope they figure out what other good comanies do to embelish employees, changing a culture and decreasing turn-over and value new talent as they look at new candidates. (Not sure if this is representative of Govt. sub-contractors. ) Working with the govt. has its share of pluses and minuses. Perhaps good salaries and compensation for govt. sub-contractors are a thing of the past. You can't win them all .(I pray they review things. Meanwhile, I will pray for other opportunties and wish them well.)
