2. What did you decide to do for your
ancillary task and why?
• We decided to do a double paged spread for our
ancillary task. We felt this was a stronger idea than
the radio advert as we wanted to be more visual,
since we were also doing a TV printed advert.
3. RESEARCH.
• We decided to research ‘EMPIRE’ magazine for our
double paged spread.
• WHAT CONVENTIONS DO ALL THESE DOUBLE PAGED
SPREADS HAVE IN COMMON?
4. Twilight.
In this double paged
spread about
Twilight, even though
the central image is
not in the middle, the
audience is still able
to figure out who the
main characters are,
as they are placed at
the top, near the
start of the article.
The By-line, a quote
from the review is
placed in an obvious
position, away from
the article, avoiding
confusion. The plain
colour scheme is
suitable for the
genre, Fantasy and
Romance, which is
probably for a teen-
aged group, so it’s
simple, but has
colour. Even though
there is a lot of
writing, this article is
quite informative.
5. I AM
LEGEND.
This double paged
spread from I Am
Legend, contains a
central image,
attracting the
audience straight
away. The
screenshot we see
on the left hand
side is a scene
from the movie,
which looks very
interesting,
appealing to the
audience. The
masthead at the
top containing the
title gives
MASTHEAD.
6. GODS AND
MONSTERS.
With this double
paged spread,
there was a clear
central image,
placed on the left
hand side, with
simple text on the
left, including a tag-
line at the top. The
screenshot placed
in the central of the
article attracts the
audience, as it
looks action-
packed. The colour
scheme is very
royal but simple,
suitable for the
audience. The
amount of text is
perfect, simple but
informative.
