District Policies - Jefferson County School District R-1 The district believes online education can serve as an effective tool for providing educational opportunities for students and staff.It is a valuable resource expanding educational opportunities for students at all levels of achievement. Online courses can provide, enhance, supplement and enrich district curriculum and creates additional means for instruction and collaboration. Online/distance learning opportunities allow schools and teachers to extend curricular opportunities to students that add value to the educational process for the purposes of increasing overall student achievement. Online education courses will be a part of the district instructional program to increase accessibility and flexibility in the delivery of instruction. As the goal of the district is that all students will graduate with meaningful choices for their future as a result of the quality instruction and rigorous curricula in Jeffco Schools, curriculum developed for the online environment will maintain teaching/learning pedagogies that are aligned with district expectations. To assure high quality learning opportunities, the district will ensure quality curriculum and quality instruction for online courses.
School Board Policy Graduation requirements Jefferson County Public Schools are committed to preparing students for the 21st century. One part of that preparation is a pre-collegiate, rigorous curriculum that prepares students for success in the next step of their lives. Success in college or in work requires strong academic preparation. A pre-collegiate, rigorous curriculum prepares students to choose admission to universities, community colleges, or apprenticeships. Being prepared for the 21st century requires the appropriate use and application of technology. Because of that, all courses are expected to use technology and on-line learning as a part of the instruction in that content. All course work is expected to infuse skills necessary for success in the 21st century. Those skills, in addition to the use of technology, include: Information processing and analysis  Critical thinking and problem solving  Interpersonal skills and self direction  Global awareness  Financial, economic, and business literacy  Entrepreneurial skills  Civic literacy  Skills for continuous learning

Course & Content Development 3rd Party Content & Services:The same process will be conducted for 3rd party content & services which will include skill building contents , academic support programs, and services Jeffco Developed Courses: District developed courses based upon CAP will be at the core of our student online offering.   3rd Party Courses:  For  courses we don't develop, a nation-wide, RFP-based, search is conducted to identify course providers.
Jeffco Online Delivery Model Credit Recovery Virtual Academy & Local High Schools Mastery-based courses for students who need to recover lost credit while mastering essential learning skills. Full Time Online Virtual Academy Content, instruction, andsupport for courses are fully online.  For students based on need or desire for full virtual education.
Jeffco Blended Delivery Model Blended Options Blended Traditional face to face instruction that utilizes Blackboard, online courses, and other digital resources to extend the learning experience and expand the learning space. Supplemental Students take some courses in regular face to face environments and some courses in full time online environments. Hybrid Courses that blend traditional and online classroom experiences. Classes can be divided into cohorts. Classes meet F2F one day a week.

District Policies - Jefferson County School District R-1 The district believes online education can serve as an effective tool for providing educational opportunities for students and staff.It is a valuable resource expanding educational opportunities for students at all levels of achievement. Online courses can provide, enhance, supplement and enrich district curriculum and creates additional means for instruction and collaboration. Online/distance learning opportunities allow schools and teachers to extend curricular opportunities to students that add value to the educational process for the purposes of increasing overall student achievement. Online education courses will be a part of the district instructional program to increase accessibility and flexibility in the delivery of instruction. As the goal of the district is that all students will graduate with meaningful choices for their future as a result of the quality instruction and rigorous curricula in Jeffco Schools, curriculum developed for the online environment will maintain teaching/learning pedagogies that are aligned with district expectations. To assure high quality learning opportunities, the district will ensure quality curriculum and quality instruction for online courses.
  • 14. School Board Policy Graduation requirements Jefferson County Public Schools are committed to preparing students for the 21st century. One part of that preparation is a pre-collegiate, rigorous curriculum that prepares students for success in the next step of their lives. Success in college or in work requires strong academic preparation. A pre-collegiate, rigorous curriculum prepares students to choose admission to universities, community colleges, or apprenticeships. Being prepared for the 21st century requires the appropriate use and application of technology. Because of that, all courses are expected to use technology and on-line learning as a part of the instruction in that content. All course work is expected to infuse skills necessary for success in the 21st century. Those skills, in addition to the use of technology, include: Information processing and analysis Critical thinking and problem solving Interpersonal skills and self direction Global awareness Financial, economic, and business literacy Entrepreneurial skills Civic literacy Skills for continuous learning

Course & Content Development 3rd Party Content & Services:The same process will be conducted for 3rd party content & services which will include skill building contents , academic support programs, and services Jeffco Developed Courses: District developed courses based upon CAP will be at the core of our student online offering. 3rd Party Courses: For courses we don't develop, a nation-wide, RFP-based, search is conducted to identify course providers.
  • 22. Jeffco Online Delivery Model Credit Recovery Virtual Academy & Local High Schools Mastery-based courses for students who need to recover lost credit while mastering essential learning skills. Full Time Online Virtual Academy Content, instruction, andsupport for courses are fully online. For students based on need or desire for full virtual education.

Jeffco Blended Delivery Model Blended Options Blended Traditional face to face instruction that utilizes Blackboard, online courses, and other digital resources to extend the learning experience and expand the learning space. Supplemental Students take some courses in regular face to face environments and some courses in full time online environments. Hybrid Courses that blend traditional and online classroom experiences. Classes can be divided into cohorts. Classes meet F2F one day a week.

Of the largest 50 school districts nationwide, Jeffco now ranks 5th in graduation rate.
