interaction. I don’t say these skills are unimportant. But
they are secondary”
 To Promote 7 habits as a common role behavior for all RFL
employees.
 Relate the learning in organization culture as well as in
personal life for self development.
 This is a step stone to establish and promote the teamwork.
Purpose of the session
I Plan
 I am the person who needs to change. (The focus)
 I am the person who can bring the change.(The
belief)
 I need to ensure honesty, fairness & impartiality in
my actions & words for the change. (The ultimate
actions)
“If I really want to improve my situation, I can work on the one thing over which I
have control - myself.”
I Plan
“Habit is the intersection of knowledge (what to do),
skill (how to do), and desire (want to do).”
Knowledge
(what to, why
to)
Desire
(want to)
Skills
(how to)
Habits
What is Habit
Our character, basically, is a composite of our habits.
Because they are consistent, often unconscious
patterns, habits constantly express our character and
produce our effectiveness - or our in effectiveness.
Habits can be learned and unlearned.
 p= production = what is produced, the
desired results produced
 pc = production capacity = producing
asset. Maintaining, preserving and
enhancing the resources that produces
the desired results
 Maintain the p/pc balance:
 Balance short term with long term
 Take time to invest in a relationship
 Win the customer more than the call
Effectiveness is defined as p/pc balance
• We need seven habits
in life to achieve
greatness
 Habits 1 through 3 make up the “private
victory” - where we go from dependence
to independence
 by taking responsibility for our own lives.
 Habits 4 through 6 is our “public victory”:
Once independent, we learn to be
interdependent,
 to succeed with other people.
 The seventh habit makes all the others
possible - periodically renewing ourselves
in mind body, and spirit.
Relating 7 habits
The Maturity Continuum
“To change ourselves effectively, we first had to
change our perceptions.”
1.
2.
3.
Dependence to Independence
“Treat a man as he is and he will remain as he is. Treat a man as he can and should be
and he will become as he can and should be.”
HABIT 1
Respond rather than react (Be proactive)
 The ability to control one's environment, rather
than have it control you.
 Self determination,
 choice,
 and the power to decide response to stimulus,
 conditions and circumstances
 Anticipates likely changes.
 Takes steps to avoid/minimize the impact of the
possible changes to the business situation.
Freedom

Stimulus Response
Ethics
Imagination
 In order to be proactive, we must focus on the Circle
of Influence that lies within our Circle of Concern - in
other words, we must work on the things we can do
something about.
1) Work only in your smaller circle of influence;
2) Make small commitments to yourself and others, and keep
them;
3) Be a light, not a judge; be a model, not a critic; be the solution,
not the problem.
If you stall to think some important problem in your life is “out
there” somewhere, stop yourself. That thought is the problem.

Circle of
Influence
 Be a light not a judge.
 Be a model, not a critic.
 Be part of the solution, not part of
the problem.
 Don’t get into blaming, accusing
mode.
 Work on things you have control over.
Reactive:
•There’s nothing I
can do
•That’s just the
way I am
•He makes me so
mad
•They won’t allow
that
•I have to do that
•I can’t
•I must
•If only
Proactive:
•Let’s look at our
alternatives
•I can choose a
different approach
•I control my own
feelings
•I can create an
effective presentation
•I will choose an
appropriate response
•I choose
•I prefer
•I will
“We see the world, not as it is, but as we are - or, as we are conditioned
to see it.”
 Start with a clear understanding of your
destination
 Picture deeply what kind of husbands,
wife, father or mother would you like to
be?
 What kind of son or daughter or cousin?
 What kind of friend?
 What kind of working associate?
• Displays knowledge of the company mission
statement in day to day activities.
• Gets about day to day work in a purposeful
manner.
• Constantly reviews procedures and makes
recommendations for improvement
 This the habit of personal leadership - leading
oneself that is, towards what you consider your
aims.
 By developing the habit of concentrating on
relevant activities you will build a platform to
avoid distractions and become more productive
and successful.
 The best way to start is to develop a personal
mission statement. It describes what we want
to be (character) and to do (achievements).
The following is from my friend Rolfe Kerr’s
personal mission statement:
 Succeed at home first;
 Seek and merit divine help; Remember the
people involved; Develop one new proficiency
a year, Hustle while you wait;
Keep a sense of humor.
The challenge is not to manage time, but to manage
ourselves.
 This the habit of personal management.
 This is about organizing and implementing activities in
line with the aims established in habit 2.
 Also this habit is of self-leadership and self-
management:
 putting first things first
 Leader ship decides what the “first things” are, and
 management is the discipline of carrying out your program.
Prioritize
• Finishes deadline related work well on time.
• Spends time doing purposeful work such as
learning, physical exercises, relationship building,
spiritual work, improving personal finance and
developing emotional maturity.
• Says ‘no’ to non purposeful requests in a respectful
manner.

Effective people don't solve problems - they pursue
opportunities.
They feed opportunities and starve problems. They have
genuine quadrant I emergencies, but by thinking and acting
preventively, they keep their number down.
4. Think Win-Win
5. Hear and be Heard
6. Synergize
Independent to Interdependence
“Each of us guard a gate of change that can only be opened
from the inside.”
• Tries to understand the objectives of others.
• Shares knowledge and resources with others.
• Comes up with solutions to make sure the other
person wins while the individual wins too.
• Shares credits with others.
• Appreciates others contribution
 This is the habit of interpersonal leadership,
necessary because achievements are largely
dependent on co-operative efforts with others.
 Win-win is based on the assumption that there
is plenty for everyone, and that success follows
a co-operative approach more naturally than the
confrontation of win-or-lose
Using the paradigm of Win/Win requires three traits:
 Integrity - We define integrity as the value we place on ourselves: We need
to be self- aware, possessed of an independent will. We make and keep
meaningful promises and commitments to our selves and others.
 Maturity - This is the balance between courage and consideration. Simply
put, you must have enough empathy and goodwill to work for a win for
your counterpart, and enough courage to make a win for yourself.
 Abundance Mentality - You must know and believe that there is plenty out
there for everybody. Many people don’t: They think that to succeed
themselves, others must fail. They harbor secret hopes that other people
must suffer misfortune - not terrible misfortune, but acceptable misfortune
that Will keep them in their place. The Abundance Mentality recognizes
that possibilities for growth and success are potentially limitless, and sees
in others the opportunity to complement its own strengths.
1. Win-Win: Both people win. Agreements or solutions are mutually
beneficial and satisfying to both parties.
2. Win-Lose: “If I win, you lose.” Win-Lose people are prone to use
position, power, credentials, and personality to get their way.
3. Lose-Win: “I lose, you win.” Lose-Win people are quick to please
and appease, and seek strength from popularity or acceptance.
4. Lose-Lose: Both people lose. When two Win-Lose people get
together - that is, when two determined, stubborn, ego-invested
individuals interact - the result will be Lose-Lose.
5. Win: People with the Win mentality don’t necessarily want
someone else to lose - that’s irrelevant. What matters is that they
get what they want.
6. Win-Win or No Deal: If you can’t reach an agreement that is
mutually beneficial, there is no deal.
 Processes:
 A four-step process:
 1st see the problem from the other point of view
 2nd identify the key issues and concerns
 3rd determine what results would constitute a fully acceptable
solutions
 4th identify BATNA to achieve those results
Win-Win
“Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they
listen with the intent to reply.”
 This is habit of communication, and it's
extremely powerful.
 In simple analogy Habit 5 is - 'diagnose before
you prescribe'. Simple and effective, and
essential for developing and maintaining positive
relationships in all aspects of life.
• Seek first to understand then to be
understood.
• Genuinely listen to the other person.
• Genuinely tries to understand the other
persons emotional state.
• Uses questioning to clarify what was
heard.
• Do not hesitate to express himself if
required.
 10% of our communication is
represented by our words
 30% is represented by our sounds
 60% is represented by our body
language
Created with Haiku Deck
“When the trust account is high, communication is easy, instant, and
effective.”
 This is the habit of creative co-operation - the
principle that the whole is greater than the
sum of its parts, which implicitly lays down the
challenge to see the good and potential in the
other person's contribution
 1+1 >2
 Appreciates others points of view
 Works passionately to implement other
options, once decided, even if they are
totally different to own options.
 When faced with a situation of another
having a different point of view, tries to
understand that point clearly.
 Both sides get what they want, and they build their
relationship in the process.
“At some time in your life, you probably had someone believe in you when
you didn't believe in yourself.”
 This is the habit of self renewal.
 It necessarily surrounds all the other
habits, enabling and encouraging them
to happen and grow. Covey interprets
the self into four parts:
 the spiritual,
 mental,
 physical and the social/emotional,
 which all need feeding and developing.
• Shows constant desire to improve in a
balanced way in all 6 aspects of life.
[Competencies, Health, Relationships,
Emotions, Finance, Spiritual]
• Displays a beginners mind set in the face of
learning.
• Learn from own mistakes and mistakes of
others.
Physical - exercise, nutrition, stress management;
Mental - reading, visualizing, planning, writing;
Social/Emotional - service, empathy, synergy, security;
Spiritual - spiritual reading, study, and meditation;
To exercise in all these necessary dimensions, we must be proactive. No one
can do it for us or make it urgent for us; it is a quadrant IV activity.
For instance, exercise is a typical, high- leverage, quadrant II activity that
most of us don’t do consistently enough.
 The goal of continuous physical improvement is to exercise
our body in a way that will enhance our capacity to work,
adapt, and enjoy.
 To renew ourselves physically, we must:
 Eat well
 Get sufficient rest and relaxation
 Exercise on a regular basis to build endurance, flexibility, and
strength
 Focusing on the physical dimension helps develop Habit 1
muscles of proactively; we act based on the value of well-
being instead of reacting to the forces that keep us from
fitness.
 The goal of renewing our mental health is to continue
expanding our mind.
 To renew ourselves mentally, we can:
 Read good literature
 Keep a journal of your thoughts, experiences, and insights
 Limit television watching to only those programs that enrich
your life and mind
 Focusing on our mental dimension helps us practice Habit 3 by
managing ourselves effectively to maximize the use of our
time and resources.
 The goal of renewing our spiritual self is to provide leadership
to our life and reinforce your commitment to our value
system.
 To renew ourselves spiritually, we can:
 Practice daily meditation or prayer
 Communicate with nature
 Immerse yourself in great literature or music
 A focus on our spiritual dimension helps us practice Habit 2, as
we continuously revise and commit ourselves to our values, so
we can begin with the end in mind.
 The goal of renewing ourselves socially is to develop
meaningful relationships.
 To renew ourselves emotionally, we can:
 Seek to deeply understand other people
 Make contributions to meaningful projects that improve the
lives of others
 Maintain an Abundance Mentality, and seek to help others
find success
 Renewing our social and emotional dimension helps us
practice Habits 4, 5, and 6 by recognizing that Win-Win
solutions do exist, seeking to understand others, and finding
mutually beneficial third alternatives through synergy.

  • 1.
  • 2. The story of the word “KAMASIMA” … Now lets discuss How the Japanese Treat Their Customers

  • 5. “Success is a function of public image, of attitudes and behaviors, of skills that lubricate the process of human interaction. I don’t say these skills are unimportant. But they are secondary”  To Promote 7 habits as a common role behavior for all RFL employees.  Relate the learning in organization culture as well as in personal life for self development.  This is a step stone to establish and promote the teamwork. Purpose of the session
  • 6.
  • 7. I Plan  I am the person who needs to change. (The focus)  I am the person who can bring the change.(The belief)  I need to ensure honesty, fairness & impartiality in my actions & words for the change. (The ultimate actions) “If I really want to improve my situation, I can work on the one thing over which I have control - myself.” I Plan
  • 8. “Habit is the intersection of knowledge (what to do), skill (how to do), and desire (want to do).” Knowledge (what to, why to) Desire (want to) Skills (how to) Habits What is Habit
  • 9. Our character, basically, is a composite of our habits. Because they are consistent, often unconscious patterns, habits constantly express our character and produce our effectiveness - or our in effectiveness. Habits can be learned and unlearned.
  • 10.  p= production = what is produced, the desired results produced  pc = production capacity = producing asset. Maintaining, preserving and enhancing the resources that produces the desired results  Maintain the p/pc balance:  Balance short term with long term  Take time to invest in a relationship  Win the customer more than the call Effectiveness is defined as p/pc balance
  • 11. • We need seven habits in life to achieve greatness  Habits 1 through 3 make up the “private victory” - where we go from dependence to independence  by taking responsibility for our own lives.  Habits 4 through 6 is our “public victory”: Once independent, we learn to be interdependent,  to succeed with other people.  The seventh habit makes all the others possible - periodically renewing ourselves in mind body, and spirit. Relating 7 habits
  • 13.
  • 14. “To change ourselves effectively, we first had to change our perceptions.”
  • 15. 1. 2. 3. Dependence to Independence “Treat a man as he is and he will remain as he is. Treat a man as he can and should be and he will become as he can and should be.”
  • 16. HABIT 1 Respond rather than react (Be proactive)
  • 17.  The ability to control one's environment, rather than have it control you.  Self determination,  choice,  and the power to decide response to stimulus,  conditions and circumstances  Anticipates likely changes.  Takes steps to avoid/minimize the impact of the possible changes to the business situation.
  • 19.  In order to be proactive, we must focus on the Circle of Influence that lies within our Circle of Concern - in other words, we must work on the things we can do something about. 1) Work only in your smaller circle of influence; 2) Make small commitments to yourself and others, and keep them; 3) Be a light, not a judge; be a model, not a critic; be the solution, not the problem. If you stall to think some important problem in your life is “out there” somewhere, stop yourself. That thought is the problem.
  • 20. Circle of Concern Colleague Strike/Unrest Load shedding Rules & regulations Natural calamity War Circle of Influence
  • 21.  Be a light not a judge.  Be a model, not a critic.  Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.  Don’t get into blaming, accusing mode.  Work on things you have control over.
  • 22. Reactive: •There’s nothing I can do •That’s just the way I am •He makes me so mad •They won’t allow that •I have to do that •I can’t •I must •If only Proactive: •Let’s look at our alternatives •I can choose a different approach •I control my own feelings •I can create an effective presentation •I will choose an appropriate response •I choose •I prefer •I will
  • 23.
  • 24.
  • 25. “We see the world, not as it is, but as we are - or, as we are conditioned to see it.”
  • 26.  Start with a clear understanding of your destination  Picture deeply what kind of husbands, wife, father or mother would you like to be?  What kind of son or daughter or cousin?  What kind of friend?  What kind of working associate?
  • 27. • Displays knowledge of the company mission statement in day to day activities. • Gets about day to day work in a purposeful manner. • Constantly reviews procedures and makes recommendations for improvement
  • 28.  This the habit of personal leadership - leading oneself that is, towards what you consider your aims.  By developing the habit of concentrating on relevant activities you will build a platform to avoid distractions and become more productive and successful.
  • 29.  The best way to start is to develop a personal mission statement. It describes what we want to be (character) and to do (achievements). The following is from my friend Rolfe Kerr’s personal mission statement:  Succeed at home first;  Seek and merit divine help; Remember the people involved; Develop one new proficiency a year, Hustle while you wait; Keep a sense of humor.
  • 30.
  • 31. The challenge is not to manage time, but to manage ourselves.
  • 32.  This the habit of personal management.  This is about organizing and implementing activities in line with the aims established in habit 2.  Also this habit is of self-leadership and self- management:  putting first things first  Leader ship decides what the “first things” are, and  management is the discipline of carrying out your program.
  • 33. Prioritize • Finishes deadline related work well on time. • Spends time doing purposeful work such as learning, physical exercises, relationship building, spiritual work, improving personal finance and developing emotional maturity. • Says ‘no’ to non purposeful requests in a respectful manner.
  • 34.
  • 35. Non Purposeful Force to DO Choose to DO :
  • 36. Urgent Vs Important - Actions Pressing Problem Deadlines Emergencies Unexpected meetings Important Not Important Urgent Not Urgent Some emails / phone Calls Interruptions Some meetings Planning & Preparation Challenging Tasks Upcoming Targets/Reports Relationship Building Training Personal development Time wasters Some emails Social Media Do it now Delegate Decide Minimize
  • 37.
  • 38. Effective people don't solve problems - they pursue opportunities. They feed opportunities and starve problems. They have genuine quadrant I emergencies, but by thinking and acting preventively, they keep their number down.
  • 39.
  • 40.
  • 41.
  • 42. 4. Think Win-Win 5. Hear and be Heard 6. Synergize Independent to Interdependence
  • 43. “Each of us guard a gate of change that can only be opened from the inside.”
  • 44. • Tries to understand the objectives of others. • Shares knowledge and resources with others. • Comes up with solutions to make sure the other person wins while the individual wins too. • Shares credits with others. • Appreciates others contribution
  • 45.  This is the habit of interpersonal leadership, necessary because achievements are largely dependent on co-operative efforts with others.  Win-win is based on the assumption that there is plenty for everyone, and that success follows a co-operative approach more naturally than the confrontation of win-or-lose
  • 46. Using the paradigm of Win/Win requires three traits:  Integrity - We define integrity as the value we place on ourselves: We need to be self- aware, possessed of an independent will. We make and keep meaningful promises and commitments to our selves and others.  Maturity - This is the balance between courage and consideration. Simply put, you must have enough empathy and goodwill to work for a win for your counterpart, and enough courage to make a win for yourself.  Abundance Mentality - You must know and believe that there is plenty out there for everybody. Many people don’t: They think that to succeed themselves, others must fail. They harbor secret hopes that other people must suffer misfortune - not terrible misfortune, but acceptable misfortune that Will keep them in their place. The Abundance Mentality recognizes that possibilities for growth and success are potentially limitless, and sees in others the opportunity to complement its own strengths.
  • 47. 1. Win-Win: Both people win. Agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying to both parties. 2. Win-Lose: “If I win, you lose.” Win-Lose people are prone to use position, power, credentials, and personality to get their way. 3. Lose-Win: “I lose, you win.” Lose-Win people are quick to please and appease, and seek strength from popularity or acceptance. 4. Lose-Lose: Both people lose. When two Win-Lose people get together - that is, when two determined, stubborn, ego-invested individuals interact - the result will be Lose-Lose. 5. Win: People with the Win mentality don’t necessarily want someone else to lose - that’s irrelevant. What matters is that they get what they want. 6. Win-Win or No Deal: If you can’t reach an agreement that is mutually beneficial, there is no deal.
  • 48.
  • 49.  Processes:  A four-step process:  1st see the problem from the other point of view  2nd identify the key issues and concerns  3rd determine what results would constitute a fully acceptable solutions  4th identify BATNA to achieve those results Win-Win
  • 50.
  • 51.
  • 52. “Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.”
  • 53.  This is habit of communication, and it's extremely powerful.  In simple analogy Habit 5 is - 'diagnose before you prescribe'. Simple and effective, and essential for developing and maintaining positive relationships in all aspects of life.
  • 54. • Seek first to understand then to be understood. • Genuinely listen to the other person. • Genuinely tries to understand the other persons emotional state. • Uses questioning to clarify what was heard. • Do not hesitate to express himself if required.
  • 55.  10% of our communication is represented by our words  30% is represented by our sounds  60% is represented by our body language
  • 56.
  • 57. Created with Haiku Deck “When the trust account is high, communication is easy, instant, and effective.”
  • 58.
  • 59.  This is the habit of creative co-operation - the principle that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, which implicitly lays down the challenge to see the good and potential in the other person's contribution
  • 60.  1+1 >2  Appreciates others points of view  Works passionately to implement other options, once decided, even if they are totally different to own options.  When faced with a situation of another having a different point of view, tries to understand that point clearly.
  • 61.  Both sides get what they want, and they build their relationship in the process.
  • 62.
  • 63.
  • 64. “At some time in your life, you probably had someone believe in you when you didn't believe in yourself.”
  • 65.  This is the habit of self renewal.  It necessarily surrounds all the other habits, enabling and encouraging them to happen and grow. Covey interprets the self into four parts:  the spiritual,  mental,  physical and the social/emotional,  which all need feeding and developing.
  • 66. • Shows constant desire to improve in a balanced way in all 6 aspects of life. [Competencies, Health, Relationships, Emotions, Finance, Spiritual] • Displays a beginners mind set in the face of learning. • Learn from own mistakes and mistakes of others.
  • 67. Physical - exercise, nutrition, stress management; Mental - reading, visualizing, planning, writing; Social/Emotional - service, empathy, synergy, security; Spiritual - spiritual reading, study, and meditation; To exercise in all these necessary dimensions, we must be proactive. No one can do it for us or make it urgent for us; it is a quadrant IV activity. For instance, exercise is a typical, high- leverage, quadrant II activity that most of us don’t do consistently enough.
  • 68.  The goal of continuous physical improvement is to exercise our body in a way that will enhance our capacity to work, adapt, and enjoy.  To renew ourselves physically, we must:  Eat well  Get sufficient rest and relaxation  Exercise on a regular basis to build endurance, flexibility, and strength  Focusing on the physical dimension helps develop Habit 1 muscles of proactively; we act based on the value of well- being instead of reacting to the forces that keep us from fitness.
  • 69.  The goal of renewing our mental health is to continue expanding our mind.  To renew ourselves mentally, we can:  Read good literature  Keep a journal of your thoughts, experiences, and insights  Limit television watching to only those programs that enrich your life and mind  Focusing on our mental dimension helps us practice Habit 3 by managing ourselves effectively to maximize the use of our time and resources.
  • 70.  The goal of renewing our spiritual self is to provide leadership to our life and reinforce your commitment to our value system.  To renew ourselves spiritually, we can:  Practice daily meditation or prayer  Communicate with nature  Immerse yourself in great literature or music  A focus on our spiritual dimension helps us practice Habit 2, as we continuously revise and commit ourselves to our values, so we can begin with the end in mind.
  • 71.  The goal of renewing ourselves socially is to develop meaningful relationships.  To renew ourselves emotionally, we can:  Seek to deeply understand other people  Make contributions to meaningful projects that improve the lives of others  Maintain an Abundance Mentality, and seek to help others find success  Renewing our social and emotional dimension helps us practice Habits 4, 5, and 6 by recognizing that Win-Win solutions do exist, seeking to understand others, and finding mutually beneficial third alternatives through synergy.
