11/2015-5/2016 Allstate/JRD Systems Senior IMS System Programmer/Consultant/SME
IMS System support for Allstate. Built IMSPlex environments for 56 IMS systems. Updated the IMS rolling IMSPlex
maintenance process across the Test, Development and Production environments. Process includes handling
HIPER service, PSP bucket analysis and PE resolution. Planned IMS 12 to IMS 14 upgrade in 2016. Enabled RACF
Command Security for CSL Operations Manager. Implemented IMSPlex and CSL with SCI, OM and RM address
spaces in Test and developed plan to migrate to all IMS systems. Type 2 command use including Global Quiesce.
3/2015-11/2015 IBM/FedEx Senior IMS DBA
In March 2015 I started a IMS DBA contract for Artech supporting the IBM/Federal Express account. Performing all
IMS DBA tasks including IMS Fast Path Databases with Sequential Dependents. FedEx is a high volume complex
multiple LPAR shop running Parallel Sysplex Data Sharing. Most work is being done under IMS 13. Constant IMS
changes involving PSB, DBD and ACB updates; database backup, expansion, clean up and reorganization;
performance monitoring; troubleshooting; customer Q & A.
2/2012-2/2015 FirstBank Senior IMS DBA/System Programming
In March 2012 I joined FirstBank in Lakewood, CO. IMS DBA and System Programming are my primary
responsibilities. Daily use of BMC IMS Tools including DB Advisor and the IMS Tools suite. Also familiar with TMON
IMS, Omegamon and IMS PA. Completed projects include Resident PSB migration to increase PSB scheduling
capacity and reported performance gains; Developed a COBOL program to automate the deletion of expired IMS
Archive Logs (SLDSP&S) and monitor DBRC Recons; Development code reviews and Architecture planning and
recommendations; Regular IMS Performance and Tuning, PSB, DBD and ACB builds and dynamic addition to IMS
systems; Sysgen, service PTF review. Completed migration to IMS 13 and trained a junior IMS DBA to replace me!
Added IMS Connect and ODBM address spaces to the IMS DBCTL system for Java access into IMS.
7/2010-1/2012 Global Technologies Solution Group (GTSG) Senior Mainframe IMS and DB Engineer
Primary responsibilities included:
− Three month IMS heath assessment as part of an overall IBM software and hardware assessment for
Nationwide Insurance in Columbus, Ohio.
− Data Center consolidation project for WellPoint Healthcare. IMS and DBMS support for the ongoing mass
move of four major WellPoint data centers to the new consolidated site in St. Louis, MO. Responsible for IMS
and DBMS Data Base and system migration from each center, customer support and problem resolution
during the cut over, operational and procedural update and turnover with training to WellPoint production
support. This project was completed successfully to rave reviews from WellPoint and IBM on 10/26/2011.
2. 3/2010-6/2010 Indecon Consulting Inc. Senior z/OS and IMS Performance Engineer
From March through June 2010 I did contract work for WellPoint Healthcare as a z/OS Performance Engineer.
Extensive performance and tuning in a z/OS 4-way Sysplex. Daily use of BMC Mainview, MXG and SAS for
performance analysis and report generation. Monitor and correct performance bottlenecks and slow downs. Review
new development projects and assess the impact of new code on the existing production sysplex. IMS and DBMS
Data Sharing environment tuning including deadlock analysis and IRLM tuning and DBMS Queue Depth monitoring.
1/2007-1/2010 CA (formerly Computer Associates) Inc. Principal IMS Specialist/Quality Assurance
Joined CA in January 2007 as an IMS QA/Sysprog/DBA engineer. Extensive IMS DBA work including PSB, DBD,
ACBGEN, DBRC and RECONs, IMS Tools for image copy, recovery, pointer checker, batch and online reorganization
(OLR). Workload development including Data Base design, creation, test and validation. Built a 2-way IMSPlex
(parallel sysplex data and queue sharing) for production testing. Wrote and managed the latest IMS Tools release test
plan. Experienced with CA products including VIEW, SYSVIEW, PDSMAN, TLMS, and ACF2.
Joined Mainframe Integrated System Test (MIST) team in January 2009 as an IMS and z/OS Specialist to implement
large system wide test effort to validate the CA software product stack running together with batch and online
customer like workloads. Presented CA IMS Tools to the SHARE user group.
7/2005-12/2006 NEON Enterprise Software Inc. Senior IMS Software Consultant/DBA/System Programmer
In July 2005, joined NEON as a senior software consultant supporting pre and post sales. Many on-site visits with
customer executives and technical staff (IMS DBA and Sysprogs). Customer conference and IMS User groups
presentations with an IMS Sysprog, DBA and Tools focus. Proposed, planned and implemented a new IMS managed
service offering: iServe. Served as IMS DBA and Sysprog for several IMS customer shops supporting IMS production
systems. Install and customize NEON IMS Tools and educate customer DBA’s on product usage. Owned the
customer demo system and did performance benchmarks comparing IBM and NEON IMS Tool performance.

1991-2005 IBM Santa Teresa Lab IMS Development Advisory Programmer
In 2004 assumed IMS Performance, DBA, Sysprog and test responsibility for the IBM Poughkeepsie z/OS
Consolidated Service Test (CST). Full extensive System wide test of IBM hardware and software including scenario
validation. Production workload support, TPNS stress testing and script modification, problem investigation, new test
case and workload development, cross product problem investigation, and IMS and z/OS release migration.
2002-2004 IMS Development Advisory Programmer
Joined the DBRC Development team as a function tester and customer support representative. Developed and
supported test cases to validate DBRC facilities under IMS. Extensive testing of IMS V9 line item HALDB Online
Reorganization (OLR).
2000-2001 Wal-Mart Bentonville, AR Advisory Programmer
On site IMS DBA for one year. Taught HALDB to customer DBA’s and converted a large production data base to
HALDB and set up the test cases for validation. Trained customer staff, ran daily problem and change control
meetings and supported on site IMS related critsits, customer education and events. Customer issues significantly
reduced during this assignment.
1997-2000 IBM Santa Teresa Lab Advisory Programmer
Joined the IMS Advocate team to support IMS customers with education, training, critsit and IMS product migration
assistance. Also supported the IMS Independent Software Vendors during the IMS early introduction programs. On-
site technical customer support, consultation and DBA help.
1995-1997 IBM Montpellier, France Senior International Support Specialist
Ran technical z/OS Parallel Sysplex customer briefings at the Executive Briefing Center for large European customers
and emerging nations (Slovenia, Slovakia, Belarus, Ukraine). Customer training and help with critical problems
3. including performance and tuning: Bank of Austria, LaCaixa in Barcelona and five other Banks in Spain. On site
customer training for IMS Parallel Sysplex Data Sharing. On site IMS Parallel Sysplex customer support and DBA
education including Standard Bank and ABSA in South Africa, Victoria Insurance and Deutsche Telecom in Germany.
Presented at EMEA customer parallel sysplex training sessions in Stuttgart, Berlin, and Brussels. Ran and presented
two large Parallel Sysplex customer conferences in Le Corum, Montpellier.
1992-1995 IBM UK Senior International Support Specialist
Joined Parallel Sysplex introduction team for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Many customer presentations
at IMS Technical Conferences, GUIDE and SHARE, 390 Hardware Councils, Parallel Sysplex
Leaders Forums, and IBM Champions group. Supported early program customers ABN AMRO and Barclays Bank,
R+Z and Victoria Insurance, British Airways. Parallel Sysplex education for IMS and DBMS Sysprog and DBA’s.
1991-1992 IMS Development - IMS Performance and Test Advisory Programmer
Joined the IMS performance team and conducted several performance studies and presented results at customer and
IBM conferences. Path length studies and analysis yielded improvements in IMS performance and close interaction
with IMS development module owners. Also used San Jose DASD and Data Facilities software experience to
improve the team's system build and restore techniques which reduced nightly setup time and permitted increased
testing efforts during extensive hands on native mainframe testing.
1985-1991 IBM San Jose Performance Evaluation Lab Advisory Programmer
IMS test and performance specialist. Worked with the latest DASD and I/O Subsystem Control Units and S/390
mainframes. Planned and ran performance studies which were presented at various customer technical forums for
IMS DBA’s and Sysprog’s including CMG, GUIDE, SHARE, and IMS Technical Conferences. GUIDE IBM IMS
representative from 1989-1992. Published technical reports on IMS and related facilities OS/390, DASD I/O
Subsystem and Data in Memory topics. Outstanding Achievement Award for IMS VSAM Hiperspace studies.
1983-1985 IBM Poughkeepsie Hardware and Software Lab Senior Associate Programmer
System programmer and IMS specialist for internal IBM IMS and CICS software packages, workload development
and customer support. Extensive SMP/E build and test experience. During this assignment learned the IBM software
package and delivery process.
1979-1982 IBM World Trade Americas/Far East Headquarters Associate Programmer
Transferred to application development in 1979. Worked with PL/1 and APL development teams coding and testing
new and updated applications. Also did development, testing and customer support for World Trade Advanced
Administrative System (WTAAS).
1976-1978 IBM World Trade A/FE HQ Information Systems Senior Operator
One year in Computer Operation (9 months as lead operator). Operated and oversaw the 4-way JES3 mainframe
production complex. Developed several programs to automate various operations activities. Moved to Change
Control and Problem Management Lead and conducted daily status meetings with I/S management.
1973-1976 Reader's Digest Corp. DP Systems Lead Operator/Junior Developer
Worked in Computer Operations for 2 years (promoted to senior lead operator after one year) and one year as an
application programmer writing and supporting COBOL and Assembler programs.
Education: Attended State University of New York at Oneonta from 1969-1973. Graduated with a Bachelor of
Science Degree majoring in Earth Science with a concentration in Meteorology. 14 credits towards a Masters in
Computer Science from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
