5. Taipei, officially known as Taipei City, is the capital city and a special municipality of the Republic of
China (ROC), generally known as Taiwan. It is the capital of Taiwan. It is an economically pioneering city,
an East Asian transportation hub, and now leads the world in some sectors of electronics manufacturing
and information technology. Most of the city is located on the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed bounded
by the two relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui
River along the city’s western border.
Taipei City is located in the Taipei Basin of northern Taiwan. It extends east to Dafeng Neighborhood
in Nangang District, west to Guandu Neighborhood in Beitou District, south to Hhihnan Neighborhood
in Wenshan District, and North to Hutian Neighborhood on Beitou District. It is surrounded by New
Taipei City and it is the largest city in Taiwan.
